Grew up in a household that didn't like sport so never really got in to football when I was young. As an 11 or 12 year old I started going over Dagenham with a mate and his family. Never really got hooked but went a few times a season. I probably started to fully support them, bizarrely as I moved away to Uni, in my late teens early twenties.

I'd still say I'm not a massive football fan, I could quite easily go without for a long time and I don't get to many games any more.

No-one in my family follows any sport really, so I discovered Football by myself. One Saturday I was watching Grandstand and Sutton were mentioned. Realising I was from that area I guessed they should be my team. Two months later Ingot free tickets from my school, Sutton won 4-1 and I was hooked for life, oblivious to the pain and suffering it would cause

I don't understand the notion of "choosing" a team to support. How can you have sort of allegiance to a team you've just "chosen".

I feel sorry for people who don't support their local team because they miss out on a lot. I also feel sorry for people who's local teams are inundated with non local supporters. You can't beat going to the football on a Saturday afternoon, seeing about 30 people you know then going to the pub after a win and it being full of revelling fellow supporters all straight from the ground.

The reason I support Dover is the same reason everybody should have for supporting their team: It's my hometown club, so naturally I went as a kid and got hooked.

Dad is a Millwall fan, tried that a few times but I suspect the lure of Bobby Moore, Jeff Hurst, Clyde Best and co was too great, followed latter by heading machine that was Trevor Brooking and Alan Devonshire.

The reason I now go to Argyle is obviously I live here, but more importantly my kids do. Before they came along I might go to two-four games a year, but I take them ren-fifteen games and I have got more into the team now.

But we're not talking about other people are we? We're talking about me. Anyway what has me as a person to do with what team I support? Only a fucking moron would judge anybody by that standard...honest to fuck. If you want to get into a slanging match about what supporters sing let's do it son and are you trying to tell me there are no fucking knobheads that follow your team...get real!

And yes, you'd win your bet for what it's worth....I'm not from Glasgow...and your point is? This is one bug bear of mine that I will argue until the sun goes down so if you have the time fucking go for it!! You do NOT have to reside in the area where your team of choice plays. As I said I'll argue all day if you want on that point. Carry on!

All this because I said I don't judge ANYBODY by the team they support....fucking laughable......

I assumed correctly didn't I ?

Brought up in Kent, although I didn't start watching them until I had moved to my current home town. (Also support Kent CCC).

Assumed 'what' correctly exactly ? To point out a couple of 'swear words' indicates strongly that you have nothing in the tank, that you are a burst baw, that you are merely replying weeks later because your rusks are late in being served to your high chair. Back to your naughty corner fool!

And I'm still not from Glasgow.......

Well, none of my family supports Villa. My parents support Portsmouth and Liverpool but the first game I ever saw on TV was the 1994 Coca-Cola (League) Cup Final between Villa and Man U. I picked a team I wanted to win before the game and have never looked back. How different it would have been if I'd picked Utd!!

Once again you come on with a pitiful attempt at trying to be a smart arse, commenting incorrectly about me and failing pitifully at oneupmanship. If you have anything worthwhile to post about the thread then do so but stop coming on and making a complete fool of yourself.

Not that it has anything to do with you but I rarely drink alcohol and the last time I was 'full of the bevvy' was over two years ago.

Now away you go....keep away from sharp pencils mind you.

Well done for not swearing Rab ? See you can do it. If you can't see your reactions to people are over the top then you have a problem

The topic of the thread is quite interesting actually but you storm in like a bull in a China shop.

I went to quite a few Ipswich matches when I lived in Needham Market early 1970's, Ipswich were a top side then,
They were indeed! However, these days, 15 consecutive season in the Championship is somewhat dwindling the enthusiasm of the fan base.

Fifteen seasons ! Didn't realise it was quite that long. I have noticed how your attendances have fallen away over the years, that explains why. I used to go to Portman road during the season when yourselves, Leeds, Derby, Man City were neck and neck for the title, I think Derby won it. Just to be naughty I believe it was the following season the Blades beat Ipswich 7-0.
Cheers

Born and raised on the blue side of town, in fact growing up and still currently live about 10 minutes from Rovers ground and i can walk to there training ground in 2 minutes people do wonder why i don't follow the sags.
But when i was about 10 i had a mate who was in the City academy and used to get free tickets to home games. I went along one game we beat Walsall 4-1 Mr Shaun Goater scored 2 if i remember correctly.
I then did go to a couple Rovers games after (free tickets from school) but was soon back at the gate and been going ever since.

Not really a huge fan but i do class Liverpool as my Prem team. Was Man Utd whilst in school like most the other kids but my mother remarried in 2000 to a scouser witch soon put a stop to that :bg:

Dad supported them. Simple as that, he never supported Villa majorly, but he was a fan, which kind of got me into it. Very nearly strayed to Walsall whilst about 10-11 though due to my best mate (still is to this day), and I still have a MAJOR soft spot for Walsall, being my hometown and all. Been to a fair few Walsall games too, not as many as Villa, but still about 15 of their games. Considered getting a season ticket a few times if nothing else because I know half of their fans, but they're not a lot cheaper than Villa ones and if I could afford a ST I'd be going to Villa Park.
