Sounds like something Rochdale fans would write. "We're better than you" and "We'd never do anything wrong" is sickening.

I have sympathy with fans of rival clubs who see other clubs overspending - I've been watching others doing it for forty years. It's an annoyance when the financial playing field is lopsided.

What I would say about my club is that despite being a smaller club, for decades we competed. Then in the nineties a villain called Haslam kept us alive on a drip for 15 years (imagine the Sloth death in the movie Se7en) and stole all the silver, before leaving us in the Conference.

The following 9 years has been a rescue job. Our new wealthy benefactor initially spent handsomely to pull us from the Conference and has then cut the cloth to rein in the spending, until now. He's certainly not been doling out a ton of cash since being back in the League.

So for twenty-four years we've been in the doldrums, thanks to the fiddling of one man. We don't want or expect sympathy, as many clubs have dodgy owners. However, mediocrity has been forced upon us for quarter of a century and now supporters are eager to cling to the extravagance and hope provided by a very rich owner.

It may end in tears; it may offer our rivals hours of bungling hilarity; it certainly carries its worries, but trust us, after the bleakest quarter century in the club's history, people have passed caring of what others think. If it wasn't for Radford the club would have gone POP seven years ago.

Slightly off topic, but this Lincoln meltdown because we offered one of their players a two year contract when they offered him one is absolutely spectacular.

http://www.lincoln.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=492394

That's not the main message board btw, the FB Lincoln City Banter one is far more busy.

I don't see the big deal in all honesty, Hawkridge was a decent player but only a squad one. He would have likely had less chance now we have stepped up a division and I think that's why DC only offered him a one year deal. Don't blame Hawks for more security and a better pay packet at all, he will always get a good reception at SB.

Losing out financially to other clubs (especially smaller bankrolled clubs) is nothing new, Barrow, FGR, Eastleigh, Tranmere all had very large budgets last season.

People are a bit more miffed about Angol because we expected to have a great chance of signing him, but again more often than not, money is the decider. As a club DC is determined to make sure we don't pay over the odds for any player, which is the right way to go about things because we don't want the club put at risk. At the same time we have the financial rewards from last season and ST sales to compete with the majority of clubs in this league so I hope we can get the balance right, loosen the purse strings a little and be competitive at the right end of the table.

You can't even say if you have overspent or not on a player until he's actually played for you. Angol could be a great success and go on for a big fee or equally end up at Lincoln after failing to impress here.

We're not a smaller club than you. Historically we are very similar. You've had an exceptional season which has created a perfect storm of public interest. We've all been to Sincil Bank when the home support has been woeful.

Enjoy this period, you're back in the League and it's a joyous feeling, though it won't last forever at the extent you currently are. Most clubs eventually settle back to their natural levels. Yours is very much like ours. Nowt wrong with that either.

I don't think he was suggesting Lincoln are a bigger club to be fair.

Are Mansfield even splashing the cash? I know they are signing players early and some look good signings for this level but none of them strike me as breaking the bank signings.

Maybe they are just doing good business, have done their homework on players and made their moves early.

That overspending article is just the biggest laugh in the world.

I only recall one season when Crewe overspent and because we allowed the wrong man to spend that money on the wrong players, we were deservedly relegated to League Two after 15 years in the middle two tiers. That overspending set our club back years and saw our budgets cut to skeletal lows.

If people want to overspend, let them. But nothing is guaranteed to go well and nothing lasts forever. Rotherham's overspending may have had two promotions but they now have an embarrassing season to live with which has disillusioned their bandwagon fans. On the other hand, look at where Orient's lavish spending got them before Becchetti pulled the plug. A beacon of League One stability fell to League Two overnight due to the lack of harmony these marquee signings caused.

And who can forget the endless supply of non league clubs who come up talking how they're gonna surge up the leagues only to cower in bottom division mediocrity a mere few years later...

For Mansfield Town standards we are definitely splashing the cash. Although I don't think it'll be any more than the other biggest spenders in this league in the next season.

Let's face it, Tubby Evans wouldn't be here if the One Call purse strings hadn't been opened wider than usual. He's even said as much.

These Stags fans who think our infrastructure now matches our budget are hilarious. We are so obviously bankrolled.

Can't argue with any of that. Overspending guarantees nothing. The most sensible of our support has both sets of fingers crossed that all ends well, but this is Mansfield and we never foolishly expect anything other than eventual disappointment.

It's a mixture, these targets have been known for months and plans for the summer started when Steve Evans was appointed manager, but the budget is changing from mid-table to top six.

Stringy I haven't really came across many stags fans that think that even on Stagsnet, I think most know the situation.

I'm talking about a minority of Facebook ones commenting on that article.

But come on, these are targets that we have absolutely would not have funded just two seasons ago.

No I wasn't. I was particularly aiming it at the likes of Barrow, Eastleigh etc in the NL.

I have no idea if Lincoln are bigger than Mansfield. We are having an exceptionally high run of optimism at the moment and that will obviously translate to bigger gates whilst on this upturn in fortune. Shall enjoy it whilst it lasts because after being a ST holder for nigh on 20 years, I know it's something that could change quickly.

Yeah CB, although I've just heard he's signed for Wrexham so looks like that was bullshit that I heard earlier about talking to Mansfield or surely he would've chosen League 2 over Conference.
I'm still mostly blaming Paul Hurst. He, mostly, signed dross on long contracts and we have the knock-on impact now...

Almost as embarrassing as a Bury fan trying to make their rivals look ridiculous in a league 2 transfer thread.

Grow up huh.

This is the great thing g about football fans. Most people just swallow the party line and write this shit. They also just assume loads

Notts have been poorly run under the Trews hence why we were losing 1.5m a year. They talked and talked about non football revenues, cashless turnstiles, training grounds etc. Turned out they knew nothing about the non football revenues. It's not the only reason we were losing so much. But the conferencing, weddings, catering side is important. I was at the Madjeski recently and you can see just how easy it is for a football club to do well from that stuff

That Lincoln article is hilerious, whoever wrote that? Do they know anything about football? Lol.

Welcome back to reality after winning the weakest bananarama league in years.

The Lincoln fans here are a decent bunch, so I can't imagine they'd share similar jealous and bitter thoughts

Apparently we're after Billy waters at Cheltenham
Likewise.

Can't say I know anything about him.

Generally speaking it's basically a playground for knee jerk, impatient, teenage numpties who are incapable of holding any decent discussion. It's not quite at Fishy, Outlaws levels but it's not far off at times.

It's full of people asking the same questions over and over again because they're incapable of looking for answers and the quality of discussion is, on the whole, horrendous, although maybe I'm biased with being a Vitals veteran.

And that's before I mention the constant 'tagging' of players and/or player families/friends in posts!

The only good thing about it is that guy who films the goals from the Echo Stand, so I can watch them back at HT and at FT while the stadium empties!

Hopefully we'll announce another signing on Monday, sounds like we're close. And please don't be Gary Deegan.

Billy Waters started off with us in League One, came through just after Ryan Colclough whose now playing for Wigan.

He had potential, he was the only player who looked any good at the start of the 2014-15 season. However, he lost confidence very easily and was poorly managed by that fraud we had in charge back then.

That said, he was too lightweight for us and was nowhere near good enough for League One football at the time despite the initial promise he showed. Didn't surprise me at all he ended up in the Conference with Cheltenham. Equally didn't surprise me he managed to cut the mustard in League Two a couple of years later too.

Think in time he could be a good League One winger but needs to be in the right system to achieve his potential. I wouldn't have him back because he's old news and we've already got enough lightweight attackers coming through who will be even better than Waters ever will be. But he'll be a good signing for most teams at this level that's for sure.

Yeah,

Conrad Logan, Paul Digby, Paul Anderson, Zander Diamond, Lee Angol, Jimmy Spencer, Jacob Mellis and Hayden White.

Think that is 17 players in total, plus any youth players. another 5 to come in I imagine.

I think if you looked at any football club message boards there would be quite a few stupid comments and views that a lot of people wouldn't necessarily agree with.

Oh of course, stagsnet has plenty.

But it wouldn't feature an article put togetner in such a manner.
