Tomorrow begins the 12th Women's Euro in the Netherlands. All you want to know about it (or not) :

http://www.uefa.com/womenseuro/season=2017/finals/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Women's_Championship

The big (or only?) question could be: Which team can prevent the damn Germans to win another title (they won 8 titles in 9 appearances, 6 in a row since 1995). ;)

I like women's football (not only because our girls are even better in winning titles than the boys ;) )

edit: If you're not interested in Women's football in general or this women's Euro it's okay. But, please, no derogatory comments about women's football in this thread.

Opening match today: Netherlands vs Norway

Already 2 of the leading nations in women's football right from the beginning.
Tomorrow a (women's) classic Germany vs Sweden.

This was the final of 2 Women's Euros (1995, 2001), 1 World Cup final (2003) and the latest Olympic final (2016). Germany won all of them (but always after a hard fight and only the slightest margin of 1 Goal). We're a bit like the nemesis for Sweden when it comes to the k.o stages.

England (another top nation in women's football) has the first match against Scotland on Tuesday.

Looking forward to this one. Probably the only tournament I'll be following this summer. We play Iceland on Tuesday. Hoping we can give a good account of ourselves in preparation for the World Cup but, from what I've seen from our friendly vs Norway, we seem to have an aging squad who never knew how to do the business against a decent side (ie Germany or Sweden) and don't seem any better this time around;

I expect us to get out of the group stage but get knocked out as soon as the going gets tough.

Really? From what I've heard in German TV is France one of the favourites to win this thing this time. But you're right, too. France's women have always some problems (or bad luck) when it comes to the k.o stages (can be seen in the above list of the Euro's Top4 placements)

Thanks :2thumb:

Like I said, we've got an ageing squad. The youngsters need to be given a chance by Echouafni in order to prepare for the World Cup otherwise we won't stand a chance against the Americans/Japanese (if we get that far).

I watched the opening match between Netherlands and Norway (1-0) and was very disappointed about Norway.

Just had a look at France's squad. Yeah, some are 30 and over but some are in their early 20's, too. For this Euro it might be a good "mixture" but for the next WC the older ones have to be substitued that's right

btw: Isn't Louisa Nécib anymore in the team. Did she retire?

Germany will beat France 2-1 in the final.

Ah, a pundit....until I read your signature:

Reading this sentence is a waste of your time.

edit: Russia one up against Italy after just 9 minutes. Hey, that's good (Italy behind) and bad (Russia in front) at the same time.
edit 2: 0-2 at half time. I have seen enough.

Germany/Sweden is a pile of wank. Had so much to offer on paper but it really is rubbish.

I hope we're more entertaining to watch tomorrow against Iceland.

That result was to be expected when 2 of the top favourites are playing against each other in the group. Sweden was so sure that they'll win for the first time against Germany in 22 years that they were a bit overmotivated. Our team has some newbies in a tournament (and our coach Steffi Jones is a a newbie as coach at a tournament too). In the second half it was a better match with 2 excellent chances for Bundesliga topscorer Mandy Islacker and Sweden had one too.

Half-time in our game against Iceland and we're not passing it around enough. Iceland are very hard to get around so it'll take something special to have a chance, let alone score. Reckon we have our 2nd goalless draw on a plate right there.

Few surprise results at the moment.

Austria beat the Swiss albeit the latter had 10 ladies.

1-0 at the end due to a penalty (the standard result so far, 4 of the 6 matches were 1-0). Quite some good (looking) players in both teams. I really liked the #22 of France Sakina Karchaoui and Clarisse Le Bihan

England beating Scotland comfortably, not a very exciting game. Jodie Taylor is class, first woman to score a hat trick for England in a tournament.

Congrats England. I've changed the TV program (watched it via Eurosport) after the 3-0 at halftime because it was already decided then. A big gap in class between England and Scotland.

Me too. I must say Taylor's hold-up play is phenomenal. Scotland don't defend very well but England look a threat in the build-up and from distance which has been the case of, well, nobody else.

France to shatter your dreams you dicks!

Does that surpsise you? Are Norway supposed to be good? Or Belgium shit?

Sweden toying with Russia 2-0. Them and Germany should breeze through this group.

Exactly. Belgium was qualified for the first time for a tournament and Norway is always a leading force in women's football. World Champ in 1995 and the last Euro Champion in 1993 before it was renamend the "German Championship" :D and Olympic Gold winners in 2000. But I think you already knew this. Norway is so far the biggest disappointment of the tournament.

Sweden toying with Russia 2-0. Them and Germany should breeze through this group.

The russian goalkeeper was a disaster. Both goals due to errors of her (and it could have been 2 or 3 more after further errors.

Germany aren't looking that good this evening. Italy standing their ground better than expected. Shame to see them knocked out.

Tomorrow we face your bruders that look like weiners! Hope it's more open than against Iceland.

Although we have a great record against Italy in women's football (in 27 matches : 14 Wins - 9 Draws - 4 Losses), way better than our record against Italy in men's football, this weren't always easy matches (at the last Euro in 2013 this was a Quarterfinal match which we won only with 1-0). We had something like 25 chances against 7 for Italy here (Mandy Islacker alone could have already been top scorer of this Euro after this match, so many big chances in both matches) so the 2-1 is deserved. Italy is out, always a reason for joy for a German football fan (playing Beethoven's "Ode to joy" ) ;)

Tomorrow we face your bruders that look like weiners! Hope it's more open than against Iceland.

Brüder? What is "weiners" (wiener sausages? :D ) or do you mean that they'll begin to "weinen (weep)" after the France match? I'll keep my fingers crossed for France.

edit:

"Tu felix Austria nube"? Austria 1-0 in front at half time. WTF (again). France is #3 in the world (behind USA and Germany) and Austria #24 and never qualified for a tournament before. Can't be true, right?

Allez la France

Except England.
The match against Spain in the evening will be interesting.

We equalised. Austria are very good.

All players in the starting 11 are playing in the German Bundesliga. Only at the end of the match there were 2 substitutes who are playing in the Austrian Bundesliga (at St.Pölten, the actual Champion)

So, suddenly Austria has the best perspective. They play against Iceland who are already eliminated (but maybe they are still motivated and don't want to go home with 3 losses). France needs at least a draw against Switzerland.

I've been asked this question last week but don't know the answer: what is the tv coverage of this tournament in the UK? 100% terrestrial or cable? Or is it shared by 2 networks?
