He will be good enough, to score that many goals just a league below in a season you have to have some quality. It’s not his ability that’s the issue with him though is it, it’s more attitude to apply that quality.

Court case is over so we will see which league two club it is soon that’s signed him
I guess.

We seem to be being linked with everyone this close season!
Surely attitude is part of being good enough? Look at how many clubs he has been at. He sure had a great season the other year but I think you underestimate how poor the Conference is these days. The last player to get near 40 goals in the s Conference was Matt Tubbs and he was far, far better than Miller.

He might be good for about 10 goals over the season but I don’t think much further.

Exactly, if we can’t get the atitude right with him he won’t be good enough, as said whilst at Mansfield he was in the pub drinking with Vale fans pre game so clearly has issues. I would be a little surprised if we were signing him as Aspin is a disciplined manager, he benched our best player for months because of his atitude and got rid of Regis because he didn’t show he wanted to take the opportunity to play in the league so I don’t know if he would plump for him. Probably be us in for this Kanu chap although we have ruled out loans until mid July!

I've some sympathy for the bloke after reading about his case (link below), well as much sympathy as you can have for a bloke who drunk drove and put lives at risk, but he clearly has some major issues. And a 3.5 year driving ban. Given he lives in Hampshire that could be problematic, too. Personally I'd be giving this one a swerve.

What can Mansfield fans tell me about Callum Butcher, is he under contract with you still?
We're probably not the best people to ask to be honest. Evans brought him in as an attacking midfielder, scored on his debut away at Carlisle then did nothing in the rest of his games he played for us. I'm not into hyperbole but i've never seen a player bring less to a team in all my time of watching us (especially with the rumoured outlay on him in wages). There was one game, think it was Morecambe at home, where for about an hour, he just walked round the middle of the park showing nothing.

His heart clearly wasn't in playing for us and was here for the money. Something tells me his head isn't right either. To drop down from being a fairly regular player for Milwall, to then not being good enough for us, and not exactly pulling up trees at Billericay doesn't bode well.

Doubt Miller is good enough for this league tbh.
I don't think he is either. Our fans have some sort of weird obsession with him because he runs around alot, and sat with our fans at a couple of away games. He showed nothing in the short spell with us that suggested being good enough for league football in my opinion.

You're certainly right about Butcher, he was a bit of mental case and his head wasn't in the right place at all - it appeared that he had some serious mental issues over something (according to some, but again that's speculation). I'd have thought dropping down 2 levels to Mansfield and not doing anything, then dropping down another 2 or 3 leagues (whatever division Billericay are in) and still not doing anything would be concerning. Whether he has the ability or not is a different matter, as we just didn't see it.

Regarding Miller, I do think he has the ability for this division, just not at a club with ambitions for promotion, with respect, somewhere like Morecambe, Macclesfield, Grimsby, Crawley etc wouldn't be a bad match for him though.

Looks like we’ve refused to blink and give O’Connor a big contract, so he’ll be leaving.

BBC 'understands' Michael O'Connor is leaving Notts, so I guess we can expect to see him rock up at Sincil Bank

What's to say you haven't offered him the same deal he was on previously? Or maybe he would be able to get two years elsewhere?

He was on a massive contract previously, probably our top earner. I would class matching that as a big offer.

In reality I suspect that after more than a year out injured on the back of a fairly underwhelming start to his Notts career, we’ve offered him a one year deal on significantly reduced terms, which is completely sensible. If he can persuade a team to match his previous wages here or give him a long term contract on the back of that injury then good luck to him.

We shall see if he signs here then, we need at least one more in CM.

He lives in Lincoln so if you’ve offered similar to us he would probably go for that. Not sure he’s what you need particularly mind, I think he’s quite similar to Bostwick.

I rate him highly* but with the obscene wages we are paying Hemmings and Dennis, it makes sense to offer a more modest one year contract on this occasion.

Will significantly strengthen** whichever L2 club he joins, IMO.

* when fit
** if fit

Id be surprised if you could get twenty five games a season out of him now. Decent player, but he was having problems and being subbed before the cruciate and centre midfield is not a place to nurse your legs through matches.

Curtis saying that Lincoln and Grimsby are the two interested, and we won’t match the terms they’re offering. Can probably be taken as gospel as he’s mates with O’Connor.

It’s a shame as he’s a good player when fit, but got to trust the club on this. Having treated his injury they’re going to have the best idea of how likely it is to reoccur or how it might affect his game next season.

Re Miller; the only way to get from Fleet in Hampshire to Crawley would be by train via Southampton or Clapham Junction. As we wouldn't pay enough to rent a flat here (it's extortionate) with that 3 1/2 year driving ban he may as well live on the moon.

I know people with drink drive bans and although I wouldn't condone it I wouldn't be particularly upset at signing someone who had one. A drink problem is a different matter. That will affect your athletic ability and would cause dissension around the team.

I expect he will see out the last year on his contract with Posh and then role up at one of the London clubs (Barnet, Orient).

All supposition though.

Physio / Doctor knows best

Yup, I think if it was just up to Nolan we'd have offered him the same terms as he really rates him, but we've been burned loads of times offering generous deals to players who are injury prone or coming off the back of a serious injury.

We have a decent record of getting lots of games out of previously crocked players. Eardley was almost an ever-present for us last year, playing more games than he had in any season before in his career, and more than the previous few years combined.

O'Connor's replied to someone who called him a 'snake' on Twitter by saying we offered him a 40% cut then a 25% cut. He added: 'Come back to me when you have 3 kids to feed and a mortgage to pay'.

I'd guess he was on circa two grand a week with us, that would mean we offered him around £1500, which I think is pretty good all things considered (he's the wrong side of 30 now and has been out for a year). No idea on length tho. I think he's a useful player but if Grimsby/Lincoln are willing to offer him more, so be it.

I reckon he was probably on more than that, if the rumours about Collin’s £3k a week wage were accurate. That opening offer is a bit stingy but I think 25% under the circumstances is more than fair, it’s a shame that he seems to have taken offence to it.

Doubt we’ll look for a replacement, i’d be happy to say to Noble, Husin, Crawford and Patching that there’s a starting place alongside Hewitt to be won over the summer.

We can then reinvest a pretty hefty saving elsewhere where we’re more in need.

Unlike previous seasons, I'm quite happy to pick up players who have niggles or are on their way back fro a serious one, if they're of the required standard.

Adam Marriott came to us in 2016/17 having hardly played due to injuries and he was fit pretty much all season bar a freak elbow injury in a behind closed doors friendly.

Last season we signed Neal Eardley having done both of his knees (two ACL's?) in two years and had hardly played in 3 years, yet got 50 odd games out of him last season.

O'Connor leaving Notts probably balances out Dennis/Hemmings a bit, so it'll work for them, too.

He may have changed from his younger days, but when we had him on loan he was nothing like Bostwick. He was probably closer to Frecklington in terms of playing style.

In another news, it reads as though we're willing to listen to offers for Ollie Palmer and there's interest in him.

Whitehouse is wanted by L2 Club's (as we knew) and Sean Long is also wanted by L2 Club's (Cheltenham have been mentioned).

And I thought it weird that people won't walk under ladders or on cracks in the footpath.

I think he’s been more box to box in the past but spent most of his time at Notts (when not injured anyway) looking to come deep, take the ball from the defence etc.

Our manager wanting 4/5 in is looking a little brave now, more like double with players leaving.
Required though as we came up short and need better to make us a top 3 team hopefully...

O'Connor doesn't have the legs to be box to box. He's very physical in games so will suit Lincolns style well.

He was club captain and has a great passing range and brought a calmness to our games. You could see in the few minutes he played for Notts that he would be an asset for any side in the division.

None of us know what his fitness is like, but the decision to offer reduced terms is probably indicative of the likelihood of how much he'd play, be that fitness or due to competition for places.

All I know is that Noble is not the answer to the starting spot, unless he was completely unfit
