Mansfield have made their first movement (technically) in the transfer window by tying down Alex MacDonald for another 2 years.

Our best midfielder by far last season, and will be crucial to us this coming season

Hats off. That’s a great re-signing for the Stags. Midfield was clearly a problem area so if you had lost MacDonald then I would of been worried if a Stags fan#handbrake

Winger Diallang Jaiyesimi has joined us on loan from Norwich, what can we expect Grimsby fans?

Our chairman has released a statement saying there will be signings later this week. Good, hope they are quality and make this shite house be quickly forgotten...until we play MK..

Louis Dodds deal close to completion oddly on a season long loan rather than transfer despite being made available by Chesterfield. Was great for us for 8 seasons or so and linked with Pope well in the great promotion attack we had. Cheap and very good in the dressing room I’m happy with it although splitting the fan base.

Quick without any end product, like most wingers at this level. Couldn’t get in our team for the majority of the time which says a lot, one of them who the fans did want to see more of though.

Jamille Matt has signed for Newport on a 2 year deal, surprised that he’s managed to stay in the league never mind for 2 years.

Has a bit of pace but doesn’t always use it. Has some tricks but doesn’t always use them. Was ok in the first half of the season but like many of our other players, he lost form and looked cumbersome and a bit of a plodder. Does better with a run of games I think.

O'Connor signs on a one-year deal, option for a further 12 months. Sensible contract length.

Makes sense tbh, nobody was going to offer a guaranteed 2 seasons so that’s no surprise.

Personally I’d rather have an injury concern, quality player, than a bang average player who is always available.

We’ve just lost one of two foot on the ball central midfielders, unless we replace this puts pressure on the inexperienced but talented Husin.

That Lincoln midfield is now good but a bit too old and slow, gonna rely a lot on having the ball rather than having to chase it.

Crawford and Patching are both in that kind of mould, I think.

Quite glad we missed out on D'Ath he could have been good and may be for MK but we have signed far too many hit and miss wingers with suspect injury records in recent years.

Yeah probably lost out due to location but I’m not that arsed personally.

Maybe , but we can’t rely on either for obvious reasons. Hopefully one will step up and become 1st team regular. Hewitt be Noble in a 4-4-2 isn’t something I want to see.

With the current squad 3-5-2 is a definite option

The Cowleys will surely have to change tactics with 3 older players in the middle, surely you cannot dump it forward with no energy in the middle.

True, but I do think that part of our problem last season was having a team full of players who were reliable and solid but no one who could offer something a little bit more special. I'm happy for us to let Husin, Crawford and Patching compete for a place rather than directly replace O'Connor.

Of course but surely in a 3 in central midfield. Husin/Hewitt would surely get overrun in there?

Hope one of the two new signings can be a surprise young star but as fans we know next to nowt about them.

I think we'll either play 3-5-2 or a diamond. I wouldn't even particularly want O'Connor playing with Hewitt in a straight 4-4-2, but it depends a bit on who we play out wide as well.

Lincoln are certainly changing style then! Thought they’d at least try and replace Woodyard but I guess they’re going with a technically better player. Will certainly need to pace on the wings.

That’s got to be good for League 2 and Football in general.

Like I said really good signing at this level

Very different player to woodyard. That sounds like a very slow midfield but we managed to finish 5th with no pace

It's not a slow midfield as such, just not one with lots of pace (I couldn't tell you the last time we had a CM with any genuine pace, tbh). We didn't have any pace in it last season either, or the season before. But in those seasons we had pace up front and out wide so it wasn't an issue.

Good move if he stays fit though and a sensible contract length of a year with a year option for the Club, too, so there's a bit of safety there for us. Played alongside Frecklington in Rotherham's promotion years so they'll know each other well.

A clear sign we're planning on 4-3-3 this season because you don't have a Bostwick, Frecklington or O'Connor sat on your bench. Nor is it a replacement for Woodyard.

One criticism last season was that with Bostwick and Woodyard together lacked creativity (which it did) and they were both doing similar jobs in the team (which they were) so the signing of Frecklington in January and now O'Connor should provide us with a little bit more quality from an attacking sense in CM.

It's not pace so much as legs, I guess. Getting around the pitch, closing down, getting into the box and tracking back quickly enough, that kind of thing. O'Connor never had much of that even before his injury, Bostwick has never been that kind of player and Frecklington is into his 30s.

Occy has finally made it to Lincoln after leaving us two years ago to get closer to his house (didn’t want to affect his kids schooling I believe).

Decent enough player certainly at this level. His goal for us against Cardiff was one of the best Vale goals I’ve seen... literally rocketed from 40 plus yards into the top corner.

Will do well for Lincoln although shouldn’t really affect Notts too much as he missed last season anyway when they did well enough.

Macclesfield fans, what's Mitch Hancox like?

Certainly got potential. He wasn't a guaranteed starter for us last season but is very versatile, being able to play left back, left mid, centre mid etc. He can score goals, although his passing lets him down. I doubt he'd get in your first XI, but he'd be one for the future.

Oh, and Tranmere fans hate him.
