I just find it strange to have leanings for two clubs fella.

Spurs have won two domestic trophies in the last 20 years, in fact they've won 8 trophies since Newcastle last lifted one and haven't played outside the top division since 1950, unlike Newcastle, they also sold Bale for £80m which funded a lot of their signings.

I just find their fanbase to be a bit deluded, yes they turn out in great numbers but they seem to have a sense of entitlement that they deserve success but at the first sign of trouble, real trouble, jump ship.

Spot on cock, they love a number 9, not like we all don't, I remember the greatest fans in the world having 13k in 91 under Ardiles, but they've had if harder than most, not like City or Leeds or Wolves or Norwich or Wednesday who've suffered 3rd tier football.

Suffered? 3rd tier football was fucking great (bar the 7-1).

Aye but you wouldn't want to repeat it, especially if you have an indifferent season there.

Ask Sheffield United fans, season 4 in there.

If we hadn't of gone straight up I imagine it would've been a drag. But to do that again we'd have to suffer under someone like Roeder first and I don't want to go through that again.

I think the last comment about jumping ship at the first sign of trouble is very harsh. When we were demoted to the Championship we still filled SJP for a lot of games, by far the highest average attendance in that league for a long time.

I think the difference here is that you think Newcastle fans are angry at the lack of "success". In my experience, all we want is a club with the same amount of ambition as any other, that play some good football, and a club where the fans money goes on the team and not just into the pockets of the owner.

Instead, the profits going to the owner increase every year, and they don't even include all the free advertising and retail his companies get from us. Managers are actively told to not win games in the cups, and that the only priority is to stay in the league while spending as little as possible.

This most definitely is also not the first sign of trouble. The situation has been getting worse and worse over the past 8 years since Ashley joined, and there have been protests for the last 2-3. At some point you just have to say enough is enough, and as a fan, try and do what you can to make a change.

Mate, in 2009/10 your gates were down as low as 36k from 52k, that's a hell of a dip, think you did average 44k overall, as you pissed your way to the title.

Why would Newcastle even want him after these last two months?

I'll probably think differently tomorrow, but right now I don't really care whether he goes or not.

Do you mean on or off the pitch? If it's the former then I suggest you remember the season you finished 5th and ran established top 4 sides real close. Newcastle fans seem to block this season from their memory so that they can have a moan at Pardew and Ashley. In fact I don't think I ever recall Newcastle fans not moaning about anything. They always need a scapegoat. Pardew left with the firm intention of never going back (seriously, what was your problem with him? Now that he's gone look where you are) and now it has to fall on Ashley.
Other clubs have greedy owners too you know.

Complete bollocks Phil. The season we finished fifth was fantastic, but it was clearly a one off. The club has been starved of success, yet Ashley and the board continue to make a discernible effort NOT to succeed in cups, rather than the opposite. As the banner in the away end yesterday read, the fans aren't asking for much. This myth that Geordies expect to win games 4-3 every week and finish in the top four is and always has been complete bollocks. Apologies for the cliché, but they just want to see some effort and some indication that the club is actually going somewhere - that's there's actually a point to its existence, rather than just sitting on its hands and collecting the TV money every summer. It's almost quite tempting to think another relegation would do the club some good, but with Ashley in charge that's not going to happen.

Everything's such a mess, and it's all down to one man. Yes Carver is out of depth, yes he's tactically clueless and yes he says some stupid shit. But he shouldn't have been put in this position in the first place. And yes, we wanted Pardew out. He was a yes man, treated the fans with contempt, he endured catastrophic runs of form, just like the one we're on now, time after time, and he's not the managerial genius he's being painted out to be. Just because we wanted him gone doesn't mean we wanted Ashley to go for the easy option to save himself cash yet again.

Ashley runs the club like his own business. He buys cheap from abroad, looks to sell it on at a profit and restores the stock every two or three seasons. All in the name of making a tidy profit rather than any success on the field. That's not conducive to running a successful football club, as opposed to a business, especially with the sorry state of the squad right now. It might bring some sort of success in the short-term when everything comes together and clicks, as it did when we finished fifth, but more often than not it won't. There's a limit to buying young players with potential, because a lot of them won't make it and those who do might take a year or two to fulfil that potential. Fans aren't asking the club to splash £20m on one player, but would it really harm buying two or three established players who you know will "do a job" so to speak alongside these "potential stars" of the future. Not every foreign guy we get on the cheap will turn out to be like Cabaye.

As for your last comment, that's just a ridiculous assertion. English fans need to be encouraged to challenge owners doing what the fuck they like with their beloved clubs, not just sit back and allow it because "oh, it's happening elsewhere so we might as well just accept it".

This is a good post but again I don't think you realise that your squad isn't that bad, that the football you play (WHEN YOU HAVE A MANAGER) isn't that bad and that the entertainment isn't below par when comparing it to other mid-table clubs. It's not great but it's not shit. I know, I know you watch them more than me (I hope) but your lot come across as moaning gits.
There was a strong rumour back when Pardew left that Rémi Garde was going to take over but I reckon he saw through the lack of ambition of Ashley and is probably waiting for something better (it would have been a perfect fit actually as Garde would have improved Newcastle's academy and not spent fortune on players and wages. I actually wrote a piece on that. Read it.). Ashley probably saw Carver as a stop gap but I'm sure he'll appoint an experienced guy this summer. I actually reckon that McClaren would be good at Newcastle. The club needs to be rebuild and he's good at that.

Newcastle haven't played good football in a while - not under Hughton, Pardew or Carver. Since we had Carroll up front it's been long ball, even when we had Demba Ba and Cisse firing on all cylinders. That's not to say the fans demand champagne football, a sturdy defence would be a nice start.

I agree with you re: Remi Garde. Ashley should have signed him up but he went for the cheap option to try and see the season out. It's failed spectacularly and it's exactly what we deserve. I wouldn't be averse to McClaren but it certainly wouldn't inspire me with confidence either. If you consider the squad at his disposal then it's fair to say he's failed at Derby. They were unlucky not to beat QPR in the play-off final last season but not to even finish in the top six this time around is unforgivable.

Playoffs were the minimum from the outset, so yes he has failed. God knows why Newcastle would even want him since we've imploded so spectacularly. From top and five points clear to 8th, in 13 games.

I don't think he handles pressure very well at all.

Last season he had no pressure at all, nobody expected what would happen and everyone enjoyed the ride, including him and the squad. Since we did so well last season, the pressure was on the go the step further next season and for 2/3 of the season, he didn't seem too bad. Although sometimes you could see some strange decisions. As soon as the Newcastle rumours have come round, and the injuries he has collapsed. He hasn't been able to change his style, and hasn't been fully focused. Lots of pressure on him recently and he hasn't dealt with it.

With Newcastle, the fans on the most part tend to turn quite quickly when things start going wrong. If he were to start badly, the pressure would be on and again I don't think he could handle that sort of pressure, like he hasn't here.

You weren't playing good football when you finished 5th? Alright.

That's just it. He'd be an improvement on Carver (to be fair, a mountain bike would be too) but there is a lot of pressure constantly surrounding Newcastle (like fans moaning of not playing good football despite finishing 5th) so I don't think it's a good solution in the long run.

I wasn't moaning MM. We obviously played winning and effective football and at times with Cabaye and Ben Arfa pulling the strings it was good to watch. But a lot of the time it was long ball up to Ba and Cisse. As I say, effective but not always pretty.

Derby County fans are ridiculous

This is from our forum...

_____________________________________________

Buxton played at Brighton away. Then the next game on the 7th March, Birmingham at home he was on the bench.

I received a text on 13th March. A very close friend of mine knows someone who works at the club at moor farm every day.

My friend text me on 13th March saying that the bloke who works inside the club has said he has never seen unrest like it. McClaren and Buxton had a blazing row in the canteen. McClaren was yelling at Buxton saying "You'll never play for Derby again" this ended with Buxton throwing a cup of tea at McClaren.

The next game was Norwich away. No Buxton. The orginal reason was a back injury and out for 10 days. We never saw him again. I knew we wouldnt.

Also Bryson has been in and out of McClarens office screaming, shouting and slamming doors.

Im not lying here. I dont lie. If ive not heard anything I wont say anything. But this is true. When I got this text I had a horrible feeling we would crumble. Not to this extent. But the unrest was clear.

This is 150% reliable source trust me on this.

From my source now. Southampton are in for Hughes. A bid of £6 million will be placed in the summer. Southampton know this wont be enough and also know that this will set the ball rolling and also start a bidding war.

The only agreement we have with Liverpool is that we have to tell them when a team bids for Hughes. Thats it. No agreement that they have first dib . We do not have to sell him to Liverpool.

But it gives a good idea of how much we could get for Hughes if Southamptons first bid is £6 million.

I have a source extremley close to the club who I trust 150%.

I wont hear everything by any stretch of the imagination. What I do hear will be true and I will post when I hear anything.

I know there will be people who believe what I say and people that wont. Its just how it is.

If I get asked things and I don't know anything then I will tell you I don't know anything.

Well he is clearly going to wait to see what league the Geordies are in - rejected the chance to take over with 3 games left.

He's told the Derby board in no uncertain terms, that he's not going to Newcastle this summer.

McLaren to Newcastle?
Can't see it: Newcastle prefer to fail earlier and with consistent predictability, while McLaren is happier snatching defeat from the jaws of victory at the last moment.

Well having commited to Derby, the rumours have started again.

Spanish media are reporting that Paul Clement has agreed to become Derby manager. Local journo and Alan Nixon both saying something is going on as it's gone very quiet at the club.
