The Forum Game Schedule Thread

My football based game is officially called Football Factions, Oaf, and am well into writing the player characters up and getting all their stats in order.

The rules still need some work, and I don't wanna set a date.

I'll need Munks help as well I'm imagining.

We've just had a power cut for some reason, went off when I was trying to post and has only just come back on again. Hotspot not been working either so I wasn't aware I'd posted it more than once Jamal.

Nice one Spiredey. I eagerly anticipate the arrival of 1FFFF.

Back in NOTW's heyday I had a few ideas to change the game. Eventually it was becoming a game that wasn't NOTW and the mechanics of it were proving hard to work out. I've found the notepad that I was using to try to make this game so I'm going to have a look through it and see if I can resurrect it. Pencil me in very lightly for a game taking place in about 2 years time.

Cool, added. I think I've given it a pretty good temporary title. May be one worth sticking it even when it is ready.

But yeah, I always do that sort of thing. TFF Wars, at one stage, would have required a fucking PHD to play it due to its complexity. Pretty much scraped all I had and started again on it.

I'm having some problems regarding 1FFFF, due to its complexity at the minute.
I need to somehow dumb it down for my own sake, and that of the players.
There's far too much going on at the minute, and I need to try and work out what to keep, what to scrap. I wanna make it authentic regarding it being based around football, but with so many variables it's proving difficult. I will find balance though, and when I do hopefully it'll be great fun for those that take part.

Honestly mate, just do what I did with TFF wars. Rather than constantly editing what you have to try to trim it down, just start a new file on word or whatever and start from scratch. "Less is more" is absolutely the case when it comes to that sort of thing, I find. I always try to keep stuff simple from the early going now... just get a few core concepts that you want to keep and then stick with it without adding in any more, otherwise it just gets too complicated. That's what I did with NOTW... I had all these crazy ideas coming to my mind, but in the end I've managed to keep it relatively normal with a couple extra bits and pieces in there to keep it fresh... though it does have one big core concept that I've added to it that should hopefully really make it unique...

I think that's where I'm kinda heading Oaf. I've made it far too complex for it to work over a forum format, and I don't know what to keep and what not.

Looks like a total rewrite, while trying to keep it as simple and authentic as possible. It's gonna resemble Wars a lot more than I'd have liked though, although unique enough for me to call it my own game.

Haha, I have no problem with you copying stuff from TFF Wars for it. I actually reckon it'd be a pretty good little basis to start on and then give a Football flavoured twist.

But I feel your pain... I've often considered doing a football game, and my biggest problem was always the same as yours, it always seemed to look far too complex!

The inspiration behind it was indeed Wars Oaf, thus the main concept for match day comes from dice rolls added to player ratings etc. With 3 a side and different positions to consider though, there are enough bits I can, and will add to make it a standalone. The obvious nods to T/1FF Wars will be noticeable though, and for that I thank you.

I hope you take part, when I get around to producing the damn thing. I've put hours into it already!!

Might condense that title to 'STWNOTWBTGSCTIWNOTWSSUTSSCIBHWTLTHNTSIHCBIBTLIPF'. Think that's catchy.

A better working title for it would be 'tribes'.

The basic idea was that there would be 5 tribes all competing to be the number one but one of the tribes, the werewolves, would be hidden and would try to become the number one by infiltrating the others and killing them. What I'm going to do is take the tribes idea and work with that.

Tribes? Ok, not quite as catchy as my title but it's your baby.

You know what? I just want to get something out there...

1FF Wars has been very slowly coming along for a long time now. Very. Slowly. And I've come to realise why that is. My heart just isn't in it at the moment. I have a couple other ideas for games that I want to run, but I feel like there's just this big brick wall of 1FF Wars stood in the way that I have to get out of the way first before I start doing other stuff.
But then I did sort of jump over that wall when I decided to do NOTW 2 and realised I'd have to do that before 1FF Wars... so I've been working on that recently, and it's been like a breath of fresh air. And I've simply realised that, right now, I'm not into 1FF Wars. When I first made TFF Wars it was new, fresh and (in my mind at least) exciting and I couldn't wait to see how it'd play out. And while I am excited for some of the stuff I have in 1FF Wars, it just doesn't have that same level of anticipation for me... it just sort of feels like I've lost the passion (if that's what you'd call it) for it.
I think that a large reason for that is because of the goal I set of increasing the roster and giving every character an ability. And while yes, I could just keep the roster smaller or not give them all abilities... I just wouldn't want that. I'd rather not run it at all. If I can't do it bigger and better than the first time, then what's the point?

So, ultimately after a bit of thought, I've made the decision to sort of "delay" it until I've got that desire for it back again. This desire does exist, somewhere inside of me. Every once in a while, I still get the odd moment of inspiration, get back into it and give a good hour or so of work on it. So it is moving slowly... but I sort of feel like I need to really get back into it before it's going to be ready again. So rather than outright claim that it will be the next game I'm going to run on here, and slowly work on it at the current rate of about 1 hours worth of work per month, I'm just going to stick it under my own personal "pending" list and get working on other stuff. 1FF Wars will still happen, long term, I'm sure of it. I still want to see it happen. It's just getting to that point is becoming a bit of a chore for me right now.

So, while NOTW is my priority right now of course, I'm actually going to start proper work on something new. An idea that I very nearly ran with before deciding to go with TFF Wars instead. I just have to get some of the systems behind it worked out and think of how it'd run nicely on a forum, but I expect that pretty soon I should be full steam ahead on it.

The most disappointing comment I've heard said on this forum, by a distance.

Exactly, right! It's very different... don't think there's ever been anything like it on 1FF/TFF before. As with TFF Wars and the likes of Promotion Wars before it, I obviously won't know how it'll turn out until it's out there running... but I seem to have a decent track record with these things, so my hopes are high!

I was going to bagsy the next spot on the schedule, but then realised that it'd mean I'm doing two games in a row Anybody else want to go after NOTW to stop me looking like a greedy bastard...?

I'm devastated about the news regarding 1FF Wars.

To be fair though... at the rate it was going, it was a long time off anyway. All that happened last night was that I confirmed that it was indeed a long way off. TFF Wars was actually over a year ago now... so it's already been a year. I'd still say that we'll see 1FF Wars before another year passes us by...

Yeah, I guess I will. Though if anybody actually has something that is ready to go, feel free to jump in ahead of me.

This being said, running two games back to back in NOTW and This other thing... gonna take quite a bit of effort on my part without a break in between

You could always give yourself a break in between.


Having had a quick look at everything I'm confident that mine will be able to run. Long way from getting everything sorted though but it's definitely a goer.

I can only assume Oaf's love and enthusiasm for a Wars 2 died when our discussion over on TFF was lost forever. DAMN THOSE SELFISH BASTARDS!
