For natural ability I doubt I'll ever see someone as talented as Tommy Johnson (ex-Villa, Celtic etc.) play for us, but I'll put in honourable mentions for Rod Wallace, Paul Shaw, Marlon King and Simon Osborn as 'special' players.

Tough one, but for sheer quality, Benito Carbone and his £40k per week wages back in 00/02!

Deano was immense obviously, easily the 2nd best for me. He couldn't do half the things Powell could do though.

Definitely a good argument for it to be Powell. It's quite embarrassing what he did to League Two defenders at times and he has more moments of individual skill that take your breath away over Deano (I still don't think I've quite taken in that play-off goal). But... Deano was an all round player, oozed classed, scored every type of goal and was a player who carried us in a tough Championship (feck knows what he'd have done in Powell's situation in L2). Heck, he could have dragged us into the Premier League had he stayed for another 4 months. I've always absolutely no doubt that without his injuries (and, of course retirement) he'd have spent most of his career at a top 5 club and in the England squad. You look at players he was so much better than that then spent years in the England set up (ahem Crouch), but yet his career was pretty much over before his 24th birthday. It's gutting.

Jack Lester

Although, another couple of seasons could see Gary Roberts take it

No chance, Sir Jack Lester will always be superior on that front. The man was a genius.

Best player I've seen in a Swindon shirt - Don Rogers by a country mile.

As has already been said, Fuller.

I remember the hat-trick he scored against Burnley, he was just unplayable that day and that whole season.

Historically, Peter Wright was voted our greatest ever player and there is a stature of him on the old Layer Road site. In modern years and on technical ability etc, probably a toss up between Mark Kinsella and Lomana Tresor Lua Lua.

Lua Lua was just incredible.the way he would float around defenders. So, so good. I remember one game at home to Bournemouth when we were losing 1-0 after about an hour or so when he came off the bench. He scored two absolutely brilliant, solo goals, injured his ankle doing one of his somersaults but still managed to set up another goal to win 3-1, before being substituted with ten minutes to go because of his injury. Absolutely sublime.

Before my time but for what he achieved in the game you could argue Stepney into that top 3 as well.

Also, on Cahill. Ifill had more talent in one leg than Cahill had in his whole body. Difference was in mental fortitude and luck with injuries. Paul Ifill could, on occasion, display the sort of talent that I've never seen another player possess.

Ifill was great but Ifill also didn't have a brain. Capable of brilliance but often infuriating. Also overlooked is Lucas Neill, probably the most gifted of the lot now that I think of it. Shame he settled at centre back as he was an incredibly talented footballer.

Certainly the best player I've seen in a Bradford shirt v Dale. And one of the few opposition players to get a standing ovation from the Dale fans when substituted.

Dion Dublin. However, the older lot may say Tommy or George Hudson. This question was asked on our forum the other week and some of our younger fans said Carl Baker. Alright, he was a decent player and a relatable one to the fans but it makes me angry that's all the younger fans have had to see.

Sad that him, Wilson and Moussa are considered some of the best to play for our club to youngsters.

Depends how you define best. In terms of technical skill, Benni Carbone or Chris Waddle.

In terms of ability to influence a team and drive it to get results; Gary Jones.

Bit of a difference like...

Best that i've seen probably Steve Sidwell or Gylfi Sigurdsson.

All time Reading could be a few, Robin Friday or Shaka Hislop probably most likely. Neil Webb or Kerry Dixon if you put more weight on what they did after leaving.

How old are the members on SBT ffs.

:D

A poster the other day suggested we shouldn't of gave Mowbray another contract and instead given it to Hockaday because he has worked in the lower leagues before under tight budgets. Funny thing is, he was being genuinely serious.
