WWE just seem to see it that Cena is on a different level to the rest of the wrestling world. They seem to think that facing Cena and losing a whole bunch of times isn't that bad, if you can "push him to his limit", that's enough to make you come out of it positively. It's a bit shit, but it at least makes it look all the more impressive when people do beat Cena. Punk and Bryan both got elevated to the top after beating Cena clean, and then Lesnar went on to look like an absolute boss (more so...) after dominating him at Summerslam. So at least there is some kind of payoff to making Cena untouchable, even if we don't get it very often.

but then to counter that....Brock already had the reputation of an 'absolute boss' without needing to beat Cena, that was generated years and years ago and Punk/Bryan got over before Cena by being the websites fanboys and thus were the rebellious anti-cena faces.

Although I didn't even know Rusev got a win somewhere, at least he did I suppose.

It's not like it was a great win, Cena passed out while in the accolade (a camel clutch, because he's foreign and all foreigners must use the camel clutch as a finisher) and the ref stopped the match. So he never actually pinned the guy.

But yeah, I know, Lesnar had beaten the streak so anything next to that is pretty minor... but still, beating Cena like that only further enforced the image of the "conquerer". And while Bryan and Punk were already popular, beating Cena was a great sign of intent that WWE would be willing to actually run with these guys and push them due to their popularity (well, it still took quite a bit of doing with Bryan to be honest after he beat Cena, but they got there in the end!)

Don't knock after 7pm as the kids are in bed, I have a security camera linked to my phone so i'll know you're there. Please be patient.

Good NXT Special that.

Becky and Sasha's match was A+, rest was mostly solid. Zayn/Owens remain gold and obviously you got the predictable but still cool

debut of Samoa Joe

The entire event up until that spoiler was A+ for me. But considering people rave about the NXT crowd, I thought their reaction was poor and underwhelming.

Thoroughly enjoyed that.

Tyler breeze is warming to me but Finn balor is amazing, and that entrance

Diva tag match was OK but you can tell Dana Brooke is still green

Rhyno Corbin was actually a solid match

Tag match was OK. Don't know why they have changed Blake and Murphys music? Doesn't sound as impactful. Also the more I look at them, are wwe trying to make their version of the wolves?

Diva title match was match of the evening for me, Becky lynch finally showing her experience

Main event was good as well I thought
and Samoa Joe using his real name!!

I don't think Balor is that that impressive in the ring. His style should be more aggressive when he becomes the 'demon', yet he wrestles the same as always.

Good show, largely to Joe being in a WWE ring. Thought they did a good job of cementing the pop-up powerbomb as a devastating finisher.

Cos he's a face innit. Be good if he went back to cocky heel like he was in NJPW

Plus my favourite tweet of all time

@WWECreative_ish: Of all the 1,004 moves @BeckyLynchWWE could steal from @IAmJericho, we're glad she went with "armbar" #NXTTakeOver

So Elimination Chamber is looking like it could be a pretty special PPV...

EC for IC title:
Sheamus, Ryback, BNB, Ziggler, Rusev, R-Truth

EC for Tag Titles:
New Day, Lucha Dragons, Ascention, Kidd and Cesaro, Prime Time Players, Matadores

Divas Title:
Nikki vs Paige vs Naomi

Owens vs Cena

Rollins vs Ambrose

Those last two matches alone make it the most exciting looking PPV since Wrestlemania for me. Ambrose and Rollins, to me, are the best combination since The Rock and Austin in terms of just absolutely clicking and getting the best out of one another. So glad to see the feud reignited, for the title this time. Last time, they actually managed to have an outstanding lumberjack match (a first, surely?) and then probably the best Hell in a Cell since the old days. Heck, they even had a superb match on Raw a couple weeks match, I probably consider it the 3rd best match of this year so far.

And Cena vs Owens... what a prospect. Yes, we can probably be 90% sure that it'll be Cena doing what he does and beating Owens. But what if he doesn't...? Owens absolutely has it. He can be huge... if WWE recognise that, why the fuck not get his career kicked off with a win over Cena? Such possibilities here... and while we can guess that it will be Cena beating him, the slight possibility of something else happening keeps this one intriguing.

But then even besides those two... that Divas title match even sounds full of promise. Nobody in WWE has improved more in the last year than the Bellas for me. And Paige is great, and I've often thought that Naomi is a great athlete who deserves a chance to actually be relevant. Could be a surprisingly great match. And those two EC matches look set up to be superb as well... the tag one sounds very interesting and the people in the IC title one should make that one pretty great, there's no obvious winner. Why the fuck does R-Truth keep getting involved in these IC title matches though?

As a network exclusive PPV, it feels like WWE are really going for it here to try and drive subscription rates up. And us, the fans, are getting a real treat out of it.

The best way to push a new star on a name like Cena is not giving him the win, but giving Cena the win, but with your new guy pretty much nearly winning the match 3-4 times and Cena having to delve deeper than he usually does in order to win it.

Flair and Foley were superb on that format, remember HHH doing it also for Jericho and Benoit.

but you then don't really let him fight Cena again for a long while, just to allow that strong impression to keep and not then bury him with numerous losses like they have done with Rusev

I do agree that that can work well, but that's pretty much the tactic they've been using since Wrestlemania with Cena with this US title open challenge thing. Every week, somebody is "pushing him to his limit" but not quite getting the job done. If Owens does that he'll just be the same as those lot... I'd like to see him get something a bit more special.

If they want Rusev to have any credibility going forward, he needs to win the IC title. Have him and Dolph the last 2 left and Rusev win. Can have him intimidate Lana or some shit too if that angle is a keeper (for all we know it could be a ploy and Lana will screw Dolph over?). Then have a Rusev/Dolph feud for a while.

They just need to make Owens look strong against Cena - it's part of the build for a Summerslam match I hope more than anything. They definitely need a long feud, for the promos essentially - should be good.

Exactly, everyone is excited for this to payoff at the EC, but I honestly don't want it to be done and dusted over 2 weeks. Make this the hottest fued of the summer.

Yeah, it could be great. Can go down the route of the guy who's had every opportunity you could want in wrestling vs the guy who's always been overlooked until now. I love how bitter Owens is... it was great when he went off on one after Cena offered "veteran advice".

I think there's an opportunity there for Owens to be that guy that Cena can't ever seem to beat.

Considering we are talking about JERN CEEEENA and everyone eventually gets beaten by John Cena, I think it'd be a cool little twist to have this Kevin Owens guy who doesn't look like a typical WWE Superstar but just keeps beating Cena in every match they face each other. And it drives Cena mad that he can't seem to beat this podgy looking kid from NXT.

Yeah, that'd be great too.

That's the annoying thing... so much chance to do so much right with that match on Sunday. Which'll make it even worse when Cena finally hits that last AA and gets the 3 count...

Probably 2 AA's in a row should do the trick.

It's being promoted as champion v champion - is it just a singles match or is the u.s title up for grabs?

None championship which does seem a little silly considering it WILL be Cena going over.
