Had to vote Coventry on the OTIB poll, sorry JJH.

I don't think there's much in it at all. I think with Coventry's current plight, we can become bigger than them if we go on to establish ourselves as a force in the Championship, at the very least, within the next five years.

In terms of history, Coventry have the edge. It's hard to replicate their past as the rich PL clubs dominate all the domestic trophies nowadays. We'll need to somehow fluke winning the FA Cup (let me dream), establish ourselves as a PL or competitive Championship club - which will hopefully be supported by the redeveloped Ashton Gate - or keep going until we have 5 JPT trophies in the cabinet.

I really don't care much for these sort of arguments, though. So have no idea why I just wrote a lot of words about it (close season, eugh). I hope Coventry turn it around from here. A big club that deserves much more.

Oi, you c***, we're founder members of the Premier League. We're fucking massive.

But seriously, I can't agree with your logic at all here, and it seems rather contradictive:

Since the 10/11 season Brighton have spent 4 of the 5 seasons in the Championship - 3 of which were top 10 finishes and the 1 season in L1 they won the league. In that same period, Sheff Utd have spent 4 of the 5 seasons in L1 and won nothing. Brighton also have a better average attendance over the majority of that period.

Are Brighton bigger than Sheff Utd? No.

Same period again, Bristol City have spent 3 of those 5 seasons in the Championship and 2 in L1. For Coventry, it's the other way around. You've won L1 and the JPT during that time.

Does that make Bristol City bigger than Coventry? Again, no.
Sheffield United haven't gone through such a lengthy period without any form of success in comparison to Coventry, so you can't compare the two examples.

Coventry and Bristol fans both dream about one day being bigger than Bradford City.

Every time someone says their club is bigger than another club God kills a kitten. You just think about that for a while.

All you have done in the last 25 years is win the equivalent of English Division 3 and the JPT a couple of times.

Whats your point?

Is it though?

Do some research and come back.

The vote on otib is a lot closer than I thought it would be given there would be an obvious bias.

Happy to be corrected as I'm only going off your honours list on WIKI but....

If we're only going by Trophies won - then yes correct, but you said 'all you have done in the last 25 years is win the equivalent of English Division 3 and the JPT a couple of times' which is false, as I was referring to promotions, relegations, play-offs etc.

Bit of a wild statement.

How have I missed all this :2thumb:

I don't particularly like arguing the case for us being a bigger club etc, and especially when it is against Sheff Utd because they have a far significant argument, but the Bristol City one is pretty poor.

I keep seeing potential being mentioned, but Bristol is a two club city, whether you consider Rovers a big club or not. Coventry's second biggest club Sphinx manage crowds in the low hundreds (a few of them are City supporters who are fed up). Yes we have Villa and Birmingham on our doorsteps, but they are in another city. If we did ever find success, we would get the numbers from not only the city of Coventry but a lot of Warwickshire.

Bristol City are a decent sized club and one that is on the up; they are attracting okay crowds which will be much higher when the ground is extended. If we had the season like you did, I would expect us to match and then better the crowds you did. Last year were our lowest crowds in the city for half a decade and were because of many reasons, so it is difficult to add that as a reason.

I agree you would - but to be fair we sold out every game after Christmas at Home, so our averages admittedly do look shite due to the reduced Capacity.

good post, but our crowds this season would have been higher if we hadnt had a capacity reduced by 7k though (actually 9k, but taking into account the areas blocked from segregation and other things)

I know and I am sure you would have managed a lot higher crowds without doubt.

Ok. Youve had more promotions (no higher than Championship level) and been relegated more than Coventry too. In that same 25 year period, Coventry spent 11 of those in the PL.

Whether its 5yrs or 25yrs, there's no real argument for you to claim you're a bigger club, merely one who's performed better recently.

Could be a different discussion in a few years time though...

We'll wait and see mate - as I've said, currently, in my views, we're already currently a bigger club than Coventry IMO - but I've based it on more than just History.

We'll see what the future holds aye.

It's quite funny seeing the Cov fans shitting themselves about being taken over by 'little' old Bristol City.

I reckon MK have got a case now!

The potential argument is a strange one based on City sizes. It would be interesting to work out the size of clubs based on their city size and number of clubs in the city boundary.

Leicester would be in there, as would Coventry due to being one club cities. It would also see Bradford up there.

Get Wigan to the bottom, they don't even have fans that can use the internet.

Losers.

All you've based on it is the last 12 months, you've completely disregarded history. I'm basing mine on more than but also including history.

I've based it on more recent history, rather than going back further than is remembered by the neutral, and based the club on what I judge a big club on.

Coventry City are a bigger club than Bristol City, historically at least and probably still, I'd like too see what sort of crowds Bristol City would achieve if they suffered the malaise that Coventry have and the complete clusterfuck that is SISU.

Bristol City have always had potential IMHO but haven't averaged 20k in nigh on 40 years.
