Good but not as good as the hype would have it. I saw this shortly after watching Prisoners which is also based on a disappearance. Although both go down different routes of the genre, Prisoners pisses all over it for me. Some good psychological elements but is was quite slow paced in places. 7/10

Orphan

One of my favourite horror/thriller cross overs. Plus it stars the excellent Vera Famiga. This was about the 10th time I've seen it and I still enjoy it as much as the first. Nice twist at the end. 8/10

Remember you recommending this to me back on TFF. A good horror indeed.

It Follows - David Robert Mitchell

I really enjoyed it! I thought the lead actress was pretty good and so too were the other cast members actually. Jumpy in places and amusing in others. Enjoyable horror.

I like the idea and the designs of the monsters are pretty cool, but nothing happens much throughout the entirety of the film. 6.5/10.

Gone Girl. I don't know. I thought the unreliable narrator set-up and subsequent reveal was pretty effective. Pretty dodgy sentiments about women, but then every scene seemed to be informed by nihilism and there weren't many likeable characters. Also, at 2 & 1/2 hours long, it's self-indulgent.

Oh this was good, this was proper good. Scary, jumpy and a plot that although it has some holes in, (it's a horror, how can it not), I find really bloody enjoyable. The less said about the acting of the British woman in it, the better, mind.

8/10.

Birdman...... turned it off after 20 mins , too slow too unbelievable , I didn't fancy having to suspend belief for a further 2 hours

The movie itself is awful, but I'll give it an 8 just for Margot Robbie alone. Can't wait for Suicide Squad!

I thought it was good. A bit more unpredictable and clever than I expected. Solid modern love story type thing - probably a film better off with less actual romance bits though because the films was at it's best when it got all 'is this part of a con or not?' but fairplay to Big Will and that,he's married, gotta get his kicks somehow.

It just felt disjointed to me. I love a dumb action movie but I left the theater thinking the movie was a bit meh. Although I enjoyed the chemistry between Will and Margot, it was the best part of the movie for me.

The First Great Train Robbery:

Has Sean Connery and Donald Sutherland in it and I like both so gave it a go, was a lot of fun. I'd give it an 8/10 its an easy enough film to sit through.

I've just watched Mad Max for the first time. As in, the old original one, not this recent remake.

I'm pretty pleased that I've never stopped watching a film half way through it. I always think that you need to finish what you start when it comes to watching movies to get a real picture of it and give it a fair chance. However, half way through this I paused it and went downstairs to go to the toilet, and seriously considered not going back up.

What a load of flaming hot garbage. Maybe given time I'll be able to think of something redeemable about it, but as it stands right now, a mere 20 minutes since those glorious end credits arrived to put me out of my misery, I think it may well be one of the worst pieces of shit I've ever sat through.

Somebody tell me, are the sequels equally awful? Or do they somehow get something half decent out of this seemingly appalling series?

A Most Violent Year

Decent plot and a good insight into the corruption and violence involved with major industries at the time.

Would recommend - 8/10.

its always impossible to say because we can all like different films, but i don't really ever enjoy Mad Max 1, but i absolutely love Mad Max 2.....may be worth giving the 2nd a go.

Watch Mad Max 2, thats the best one and don't bother with Thunderdome.

This is honestly a hidden classic and one I recommend people to watch. Its that type of film people will sort've look at and think 'nah' about a New York Lawyer working an Alabama defence case......partially serious, but mostly comedy......but the 2 main actors are superb, the plot is decent and the whole film is really enjoyable.
Bloody love that film.

Recently watched all three for the first time in ages. Not a big fan of Thunderdome but the first two are great. The first is my personal favourite, genuinely curious about what you found so awful about it?

It's basically a shameless no budget orgy of violence set in a not too distant future where lawlessness rules and delivers on every level all things considered.

Agreed. I can live without the sequels (and have not seen the new one), but I like the first quite a bit. It is hard to dislike, and understood in the context of morally absent no budget 90 minutes of mayhem b-movies downright loveable, surely. It has peers I prefer (even amongst its shameless imitators), but its almost always warranted when films of this stripe make the leap into the wider popular consciousness, I reckon....

Just saw Mad Max Fury Road and it's one of the best action movies I have seen in a long time. It's an epic rollercoaster from start to finish, i give it a 9 out of 10

I was trying to put my finger on why exactly I didn't really enjoy Mad Max, but I think the best way to put it is that (stealing Carels phrasing here):

morally absent no budget 90 minutes of mayhem b-movies

Just don't appeal to me. I get it, some people go for that, but it's just not what I'm into. I just find myself tuning out.
