and Suarez and Sturridge dragged them to 2nd.

Who found a style that suite those players to do what they did? Its incredibly ignorant and disrespectful to suggest all the good things that happened a year back were down only to a couple of players.

It's weak analysis as well because Sterling, Henderson and Coutinho were on fire too. This tends to be ignored just because they didn't weigh in with a shit load of goals,

Disrespectful? Sheesh, that's soft.

It's not ludicrous to suggest Rodgers rode the momentum of one of the most dynamic striking duos in recent league history. Liverpool fans were in the same mood before that winning run began as they are now, and a player's confidence can be inspired by watching Suarez in front of you. No one articulates how Rodgers organized the form of SAS. Then again, I'm one that thinks the emphasis on a manager's in game role and tactics are largely hysteria and most analysis of it shares the credulity of YouTube comments.

Not tough to be in the best form of your career with Suarez in front of you. I'd imagine Mesut misses Ronaldo a bit. Not sure how these players' form is attributed to Rodgers ingenious tactics of press and score 3 every match. He can't coach a team out of a rut nor organize a defence, which is tougher than letting the best player in the league run rampant.

They got out of the rut post Old Trafford and went on a great run looking competitive, so he can coach them to get out of it when things aren't going well. The defense overall had also been a lot better this season too.

Fair point, but Coutinho has continued his form and arguably had a better season this season than last..

It's easy to say Suarez was the reason to how well we did last year...However Kenny had him for a season and a half plus Rodgers first year Suarez was there.

I credit Rodgers for improving Henderson, developing Coutinho, Sterling and taking a chance on Sturridge when not many others did.

I thought he did really well to get us on form after Old Trafford...but he persisted on the 3-4-3 after Swansea and Man Utd figured it out and trying to be too clever with players positions in the line-up. I still think he needs to work on improving defensively, we still conceded same amount of goals as last year.

But again, who do we hire instead of him?? Klopp will have a pick of better jobs so who is available??

The Liverpool players were too rash that game and shot themselves in the foot; I don't think it was a case of Man Utd figuring them out as despite Liverpool playing woefully, their opponents barely hung on.

Untrue, they were dominant from start to finish bar a very short spell and they exploited our weakness down both wings with Mata and Fellaini. These are weaknesses that are quite common in our system and they took advantage of it.

Something has to be done about Liverpool's recruitment one way or another. I think Rodgers is a very good manager but the bodies that Liverpool are bringing in and the money it's costing them is just well below par.

He certainly ain't no Garry Monk that's for sure.

Fabianski - £0
Gomis - £0
Fernandez - £8m
Naughton - £5m
Montero - £1m
Siggy & Carroll - Davies, Vorm and a bag of sugar.

Liverpool didn't play well that day, and even the Man Utd hardly looked world beaters just scraping the win in the end. Mata played well though (dunno why managers dislike him tbh).

Agree, but they can't attract big players so they have to go for those that are unproven with potential, or pay ott for established PL players.

SALTIRE just out of interest, which club do you support?

I think 2 things need to happen at Liverpool.

1. Scrap the transfer committee.
2. Rodgers out, Klopp in. Rodgers just hasn't done well enough. It looked like they had wrapped up a spot in the Euro League a couple off weeks ago, but they bottled it. A squad of Liverpool's quality should be in the top 5.

When I'm in the PL section its Liverpool, as well as my hometown team of Dundee.

I agree that the transfer committee should be scrapped, they have been looking to review it anyway, hopefully we'll know one way or the other who is doing the signings.

The Sun (yep I know) today has a story saying Klopp is interested, that is nothing but a waste of ink, Klopp will be looking elsewhere as it seems Benitez who is probably off to Madrid, and Ancelotti will go perhaps back to Milan. A lot of things would have to be in place in order for Liverpool to attract big name managers, let alone players. Keep Rodgers another season as despite him making mistakes and some of the signings not yet working (which we are unsure if he is making them), the foundation is there for them to achieve top four, after all the way it turned out, despite not having a striker for the vast majority of the season, they threatened to get there, and had Sturridge been fit it would have been close that they'd have been there or thereabouts. Work has to be done I fully admit, and the new signings have to be the right ones and have to settle quickly. Lets see how last years signings progress as well, if they can improve then great. If most of that falls into place (admittedly that is a bit of work to resolve), then I think they will be competitive next season once again. If they go for a new manager in the summer, then there is every chance that it could take another couple of seasons or three to get them back into the CL.

I don't really get why Liverpool have the foundation for a top 4 place. What that means to me is that they are in a position where if they use their potential then that's what they'll achieve, but this is not getting into the top four like it was ten years ago when Liverpool were in the top 4 clubs in terms of money spent/available and had one of the strongest squads in the country. There is nothing Liverpool can do that the other clubs above you cannot do and they currently have better sides that will get stronger while Liverpool would arguably get weaker based on that top 4 status alone.
Man utd finished outside the top 4 and what did they do? They got themselves a big name manager with shit loads of experience and they outspent everyone and got themselves back in it. Now the money spent may not have been invested all that wisely in purchases of Di Maria and paying Falcao, but they were still able to do it. And with that they managed a top 4 place. Just. Liverpool are not nearly as attractive to top managers as Utd for several reasons, but if you just take the money available to spend then that's enough. So you can't attract the same calibre of manager, although you might get lucky with Klopp if Real lose their minds and appoint Rafa. And you cant outspend any of your competitors because they all have more money available than you. And even if you were on par on that you are less attractive to players because you're not in the champions league anyway.
So based on the fact that the current squad wasn't good enough to get top 4 and that those above you will strengthen, you'll have to do it to a larger degree. Given that you can't buy known established names that a top 4 side would want because they others would most likely get them first it means you'll have to chance it on players from other leagues. So you need another Suarez. Maybe 2. Are you going to get that?

Are you fuck.

And even if you do let's not forget that even with him you finished outside the top 4 for a few seasons and the moment you actually landed a CL place he put in a transfer request.

Liverpool are in the top four clubs for net spend over the last few years I believe. Chelsea are fifth.

They probably are, but as I said the others can outspend them.

To be fair, I think Liverpool's current situation would be very appealing to Klopp. He is one of very few people in this world I believe when he says it isn't about the money. He's a romantic with emotional ebbs and flows stronger than an ocean tide.

We haven't even gone for him yet. Brendan Rodgers has big plans for him as his assistant manager

So it looks like he is staying after all, seems that they've had "positive talks".

I can see Rodgers being given a few months to turn it around and if it's as poo as last season, Klopp will be approached. The timescale could work out to be quite good.
