"I can't be held responsible for the actions of every member."

Actually Sepp, that's exactly what the head of an organisation is responsible for, you fucking dipshit.

He's certainly responsible for the culture of an organisation, and FIFA under his watch has become a breeding ground for greed and corruption. I mean, they even give out a watch to underline it.

This is a big step towards the fight against corruption. Now they need to look more into UEFA, and even FA.

It's one big boys club. Black tie affairs and secret payments.

In any other organisation he would not be allowed to stand again. It's an absolute joke that he has been going on for years and no one is standing up against it bar us and the yanks

Does Blatter actually believe all the shit he comes out with? Dude is old, probably senile.

A bizarre bit of backlash in these FIFA arrests is that one of the guilty parties is Traffic Sports USA, who have owned multiple US football clubs including being the current owners of "my" team over there, NASL's Carolina RailHawks. If charges are made which ultimately they should be, Traffic are likely to fold and give up the RailHawks, meaning they would be under the administration of the NASL. After a time they will then have to await a new owner or fold, while another option is to somehow operate alongside the state's ice hockey team, the Carolina Hurricanes. It appears that in US football, new monied owners stepping in isn't as common as at home so they're in a real mess.

There has been a lot of talk about sponsorship deals - it will have no impact whatsoever. Such as the pull of the World Cup, around the world, not in specific regions (which is nigh on impossible to do via other means) and the number of sponsors that would take their place, would make the move ineffective.

Companies such as Gazprom and Qatar Airways would fill the gap, as would others that want the publicity - any publicity is good publicity.

Not possible.

Reform can only be a positive thing the way I see it, the whole world is now watching football's governing bodies. There will be less corruption at the very least, I assume.

I agree it needs reform, but for all there is a lot wrong with Fifa the one thing it does help with is trying to distribute across all levels of the game.

my worry if say UEFA or big leagues etc, etc got the powers of world football is self-interest will come in regarding certain clubs or leagues which is in the end no better than this self gaining interest now.

Of course the big thing this needs to do is remove the corrupt, destroy the bidding process and make sure that money generated does in future be distributed everywhere fairly, especially to grassroots and countries in need of resources for football.

I've actually myself no problem if countries like Russia/Qatar want to buy the World Cup......that is football in the modern era all money money money and while I hate it there isn't anything different from a country spending for a competition to a sponsor paying tonnes for a local competition..............well as long as this money goes back into the game of course.

what is wrong is when Fifa do all that world cup process B*llocks so other countries simply waste, time, effort, money and hope of getting a world cup they had no chance of getting due to backhanders, bribes and the real genuine process of getting it, what is also wrong is shoving a world cup to an unsuitable country due to money then trying to change all the goalposts to suit it..........that is then all us wasting time, losing money, leagues affected etc, etc just so a handful of people can make money and the game makes nothing because it is lining pockets of people.

Just turned on the live stream for the FIFA conference and turned it off after 30 seconds. Hearing this talk about compliance and transparency was enough for me.

If I wanted bad comedy I could hunt down old episodes of Birds Of A Feather.

Blatter: "You can't just ask people to behave ethically just like that..." Sound of jaws dropping in media seats...

Is he in some contest to see what is the most absurd thing he can say without most of the delegates batting an eyelid?

Me thinks Blatter will win this today then in will come a UEFA 'vote of no confidence' next week which shall be interesting.

I think we should just ditch the world cup and have this Fifa corruption tournament every 4 years...........a lot more entertaining.

actually reading that ridiculous speech of Blatter it is possibly for me the best speech I've ever read.

its just so terrible that it is awesome.

In easier words blames the UK and US as sore losers, talks about this being just to hurt his election witht he timing and talks about being unable to control more people than China.

As I said, the guy has balls.

He just doesn't care about anyone. From the Guardian:

Warner did not enter a plea and was scheduled to appear in court again on 12 July, but police said there was a delay in processing his bail and he would spend one night in jail. However, after complaining of exhaustion, Warner was taken to hospital for treatment but was later pictured surrounded by supporters during a political rally organised by his Independent Liberal Party in Chaguanas.

“If I have been thieving Fifa money for 30 years, who gave me the money? How come he is not charged? Why only persons from Third World countries have been charged?” Warner asked at the rally.

Warner is facing extradition to the US to stand trial but denied any wrongdoing in a statement on Thursday.

“The people of Trinidad and Tobago will know that I quit Fifa and international football more than four years ago and that over the past several years I have recommitted my life to the work of improving the lot of every citizen of every creed and race in this nation,” it read.
“This is where I have let my bucket down. I have fought fearlessly against all forms of injustice and corruption.

“I have been afforded no due process and I have not even been questioned in this matter.

“I reiterate that I am innocent of any charges. I have walked away from the politics of world football to immerse myself in the improvement of lives in this country where I shall, God willing, die.”

Amazing quotes.

The bollocks that leaves Blatter's mouth is just so unbelieveable
Not the exact quote but he goes on about "I can't monitor all the people, all the time" and "I can't be held responsible for the actions of individuals"
These individuals sit or have sat directly below him inside the hierarchy of FIFA, if he can't be held accountable for the actions of his vice president then who is?
Plus he says, he is the only man to "clean" up FIFA. Sorry Sepp, you failed to do that in 18 years. What a crock of shite.
If he gets in and remains in this will be the biggest farce in football ever.

He will be though. For the nations with the wits to realise that mass corruption, corporate homicide etc are wrong, there are bigger blocs of smaller, developing nations who see him as the man who gave big money to their footballing infrastructures, nations where horrific corruption and working conditions are totally normal. It's either him or a Jordanian prince anyway.

I don't understand why polling systems are still so archaic. The general election and now this. The FIFA voting process could be over in minutes. Actually it could be done in less than a minute. We have computers.

Who do you wish to vote for?

Prince [X] Blatter [ ]

Are you sure?

Yes [X] No [ ]

EVERYONE SENDS VOTE.

Computer tallies results. Blatter wins in under a minute. Ta-da, democracy in action! Notice how people don't making trading decisions by shouting over people any more? Technology is amazing, it can compute addition.

FIFA is the epitome of an old boys club full of self serving wankers. It's unbelievable and infuriating that nowts been done about them before. It's quite funny that it's took the Yanks to take the reins on trying to clean it up when they don't really care about football all that much. Gu on America!

I quite want Blatter to be re-elected, just to see if UEFA are serious with what they say.

So... the voting goes to a second round as Blatter fails to secure a two-thirds majority.
The first gaps appearing in his wall of invulnerability?
