One signing that definitely will happen (probably) is Lewis Gibbons to Luton. A former youth captain for Sunderland, before being banned for taking a recreational drug. Was due to sign last season, from the non leagues, but saw unforeseen delays. Looks set to join up with the club in pre-season.

Never seen him play obviously, but it makes sense to get a young one in as fourth choice now that we have three first team standard centre backs genuinely competing for two spots. Whoever we signed as fourth choice is unlikely to get too much game time, so a young development project seems logical.

Hopefully we can offload Franks and Lacey now... there's been absolutely zero rumours about potential destinations for the crop of transfer listed players thus far, which is a little concerning.

Although we appeared to have a big clear out and not much has happened apart from Legge and Roberts, it's beginning to look like we have only three remaining priorities for "first choice" signings (right back, proper winger and proven striker) before we start to move towards a one-in-one-out phase and making up numbers (possibly with loans). We currently have 13 under contract and I guess would be looking for 22-24, including loans.

Richard Money on Josh Coulson's transfer listing today (pre vacation):

"The challenge is to face up to the competition and earn a place because I don't expect Josh to leave and I don't want him to leave. Let's hope he sees the challenge of these two coming in. Two years ago when we brought in (Ian) Miller and (Tom) Bonner, it was a similar situation and he still secured his place in the team. That competition is crucial."

"Coulson, Legge and Roberts could be a good
back three as well, I guess, but it's good to have that option."

"We've put five players on the transfer list
(Josh plus Greg Taylor, Robbie Simpson, Jordan Slew and Johnny Hunt) and really that's to see what's out there for them and just to give them a kick up the backside as well," he said. "If they treat it as a kick up the backside and come back and perform really well in pre-season, they'll remain part of the group."

If Jake Howells were to come in, the left side is more than covered until we know that Greg Taylor and/or Johnny Hunt are moving on. If Josh is staying (reasonable chance?), we have room for another central defender/ right back and a right back. If Robbie Simpson stays (perhaps less likely?), we have central midfield and back-up strikers fairly well covered. Jordan Slew remains an unknown quantity but could be replaced by a loan if he sticks around until the end of the transfer window before jumping. On the right (or left or central) we have Donaldson and Hughes.

I think that leaves plenty of room to splash the cash on a proper winger and a striker.

Not convinced by Newports signings there. Think they could struggle under Butcher this season, never rated john-lewis at all.

LJL was absolutely shocking when we were in the Conference. He was a bit of a laughing stock even among the Grimsby fans!

He's obviously had a greatly improved season this time around though, 20 odd goals is nothing to sniff at.

On the other hand, there's a whole host of players who have had single good Conference seasons and then done bugger all afterwards even without stepping up a level...

LJL was very good for us this past season, just don't expect him to bag you many goals. His work rate and his strength are phenomenal but his finishing is definitely sub par, although he improved greatly since first joining. I don't imagine he'll get too many in League 2 though.

Finding someone to partner him is the key. He's a quality target man but doesn't work with all sorts of strikers. You'll want someone who likes to take the ball off his feet, that's when I feel he's most effective. Anyway good luck to him. He put up with tirades of abuse when he first joined because he couldn't hit a barn door but this past season he finally won over the fans. Hope he can continue his good form.

Rhys Taylor is a great signing. Best goalkeeper in the Conference for me, has always threatened to rise into the League.

Carlisle fans, is Sean O'Hanlon any good? I suspect you'll say no as League Two to Conference North is quite a big drop, but apparently he was captain last year?

I'm hearing we've now agreed a fee for Gary Roberts.

There is a interest in a few. There is interest in Franks from Woking, Welling, Dagenham and Barnet so I'm told. Lacey looks like he may be heading on loan somewhere. Kidderminster want Robinson but I don't think they can afford a fee so much depends whether we get Cam/Ogogo - JS said Robinson could have a future if there isn't better available (there is) - my thinking is that if we have enough there he can go for free.

Lafayette has had talks with Welling and Woking also.

O'Hanlon is a fantastic signing for the Conference North. Some of our fans (myself included) wanted to see him stay, as in the second half of last season he was one of our better players. Always 100% committed.

That's what I wanted to hear, surprised he's dropped down to pub league then.

We expected him to drop to Conference Premier, maybe to Tranmere as he lives round that area, but you should be delighted with snapping him up.

Taylor's a good signing for Newport, whether John-Lewis is any better than O'Connor remains to be seen.

He'll be a brilliant signing for you. Willing to put his body on the line and never hides away in tough games, he'll basically just fire anything that comes at him straight out of the danger zone which is exactly what you want a no-nonsense defender to do. He seems like a nice lad as well so I wish him all the best, think you've got a great signing there.

We are tipped to go down every year, finishing 11th isn't bad for the bookies cannon fodder! We'll be fine again.

I like the two signings you've made so far, especially Molyneux who I remember being pretty decent for Accrington. You reckon you'll be able to keep Redshaw?

Just what we've needed for years, he's already been made captain which is no surprise.

Yep, it has been confirmed for us. He has signed on a one year contract, i am quite happy with the Signing as i think he could be a real asset in this league.

Lennie received abuse from our fans because he missed plenty of sitters, and didn't score many. But if you are not relying on him to be the main goalscrorer he is an excellent player. He did very well for us despite the abuse and is always in the position to score goals, unfortunately he is not great at finishing them, but still managed 20 goals this season. If he could score as well as he did everything else he would have had 40 this season!

Good luck to him though, despite the abuse our fans gave him over the last couple of years he has earnt his move up to the FL while we are still non league. He will be lucky to score 10 in lge 2 though I feel, but like I say will hold the ball up well, work very hard and be strong, just have a goalscorer next to him.

Someone on Exeweb says he's been reliably informed we've made contact with Sanchez Watt who was at Colchester last and came through the Arsenal youth system. Could well have no legs but you never know.

Would be delighted as him, Lee Holmes and David Wheeler would cause some serious problems down the flanks next season.

I think Sanchez Watt would be a very good signing for this level. Goals havnt flowed at league 1 but think he would get double digits at league 2.

I don't see how you can compare them really. They are completely different types of striker.
