Agree on LJL, sad to see him go but don't think he is good enough for the league, unfortunately fans judge strikers on goals scored and not much else and he doesn't score enough to win the fans, only won them over this season because he scored a few. He would still be getting abuse if he played as well as he had without the double figure goal tally.

Can't blame him for going he certainly deserves the chance

Means now Hurst has to find a new targetman as well as a goalscorer, lets hope he can sort it.
Why does Hurst have to find a target man? What is this insistence with our fan base that you have a little and large partnership, a big lump and a quick goal scorer? We've played that way for years and I'm yet to see us promoted....

Agree with Lew the best partnership we've had for a long time was Hearn and Elding. Largely down to Hearn making Elding look good but neither were target men, no reason why we can't sign someone like Hearn to go next to Pittman and have the same effect.

Shaun Pearson and Gregor Robertson are set to make their minds up shortly according to the radio, then GTFC website posted an update saying two more signings to be announced today. Probably someone like Brown and Robertson with Pearson going but we can dream.

When I say target man I mean someone who the ball can be played too and they hold onto it, Hearn as you mentioned was this sort of player. No good signing two players like Hannah were the ball comes straight back the moment its played up to them. A target man doesn't have to be a big lump.

I agree then, it's just the term target man has become less universal and more related to a big strong lump. I think Pittman would be a good fit to go with a proven goalscorer, or somebody better of the same style.

Scott Brown signs on, 1 year deal.

We've signed Sean O'Hanlon which is a bit of a coup for pub level, we were told we'd get a significant signing today and we were all expecting some player from a league below or something.

Great signing. His performances towards the end of the season were much improved, just not enough to earn a new deal. The correct decision to release him but I expected him to get another league 2 club or a top half conference club at the very least.

He'll be an excellent player at Van North level.

Brown signs new one year deal. Hearing Pearson could be the fourth today, good news if true.

Out of them all i would've been happy to see the back of Brown. Started brilliantly but his shit second have was wrapped up with his pathetic performance at Wembley.

Pearson signing would be an unbeliveable feat.

Think he league record is pretty poor, certainly was for us, god knows how he played for Bury in League one.

Barrow had a good season where he played nearly every game as he was our only real left-back,.

Wouldn't be surprised to see you sign Neil Ashton to replace him. He wants to stay local to the north west and still has a good couple of seasons left in him at this level.

I doubt it. We usually look to bring in younger players with the outside chance of moving them on for a fee if possible. Doubt Ashton would come too cheap either.

So, including today's 2 signings, we have so far signed James Norwood (FGR), Steve Jennings (re-signing captain), Ritchie Sutton (Mansfield), Jay Harris (Wrexham), Lois Maynard (Halifax) and Liam Hogan (Fleetwood). I have no idea whether that is a good set of signings or not, but to have made 6 signings already (and rumours of another one today) is the complete opposite of the way we usually do business. For the first time in years we actually resemble a professional outfit again!!

Harris went stale here. He was great up until a couple of years back when he became very inconsistent. He could though really benefit from a change of club and could be a very good signing for you.

Fully expect Macc to sign the rest of our transfer listed players after they signed Dennis, they have an obsession with signing our players.

Shaun Pearson confirmed on a 2 year deal

Excellent news, that's 8 of the 12 players now signed up with only one (LJL) so far leaving. Midfield all signed, two of the 3 CBs. Just need the full backs and hopefully Nsiala to keep our defence in tact, leaving Hurst just needing to find those strikers and then a midfielder and defender to complete the squad.

We can't afford to shop in Waitrose, only B&M Bargains for us.

They seem to all do pretty well last season anyhow.

What a signing that is, looked certain to be leaving. Pearson and Gowling will be the best centre half partnership by a mile.

I'd be a little worried if I was a Grimsby fan, same team just minus the goals.

Always a gamble with who you replace, especially with how well Tranmere are recruiting.

Will be very interesting to see who they sign

Henmania! *fist pump*

I've probably never been so pleased about a player re-signing for GTFC. He's had a cracking 4 years and there's going to be at least 2 more. Put it this way, if we were signing him from another team in this division I'd be ecstatic, so to get him to stay is a real coup. Wouldn't have begrudged him a move to the football league.

complete opposite, we didn't have goals anyway, that was our weak point. Sure LJL has left but he was far from a goalscorer, now we pretty much have the same excellent defence and midfield signed up and Hurst has to change the forward line, just need to hope its for the better, but it can't have gotten much worse.

It was important we kept the same side as last season as much as possible, and out of the 12 offered contracts, 9 have signed, with 2 still to decide. Couldn't be happier as Grimsby fans. Shaun has even said today that up to yesterday it was between us and another club and he stayed with us because the rest of the side have stayed together, the team spirit is immense which is a credit to the players and Hurst.

Our only real worries were whether Pearson and Magnay would resign, one of them has and the other is 50/50. I wouldn't say it's minus the goals as we barely scored many anyway.

The fact the team lacks in goals is why I'd be worried. It;s clear from the team you're re-signing that you haven't got an abundance of goals throughout the team. Therefore there's even more pressure on the front men to get them.

So you've not only got to find more goals than you had last season, you've got to replace the 18 that have gone with LJL. Finding two strikers in this league that both fire and get you goals is not an easy task.

If we kept LJL or not we still needed a goalscorer, that was the one thing that's needed to happen since the beginning of last season, never mind this one. The fact we finished 3rd and almost got promoted without a goalscorer is a testament to the team, the team that we have pretty much just resigned.

Yes we still need a goalscorer but that hasn't changed things, the good thing is we don't need to replace the midfield or the defence as well, that is the encouraging thing.

I imagine staying in this division would be best for Pearson, I get the feeling he's the type of player that would get found out in the league like so many Conference players.
