In terms of why we've signed Balanta, Curle has worked with him in the QPR youth setup and obviously saw something which impressed him. Hopefully it'll be similair to Asamoah who likes Curle and says he plays better for him than other managers.

McQueen sounds like he could be a decent signing though.

We've signed Alexander McQueen from Spurs on a one year deal.
Very pleased with this one, another one who won't be on much of a wage and comes here with something to prove. O/S says that Dykes has been tracking him for a few years as well so you'd hope he knows enough about him by now to know he'd be a good/bad signing.

Yes, Chris Lines has signed for the club on a permanent basis.

He is a Gashead, a top midfielder and provides the creative spark our other midfielders don't have. Very, very pleased with how our central midfield is looking now.

Good stuff, if he can re-create his impact he had at the end of last season he'll be an asset for sure. Think the centre of midfield is sorted now, three good quality players with differing attributes. HUGE improvement on our centre midfield in 2013/14

I think that one deserves a thread of it's own. Very good signing for you.

Not sure any signing at this level warrants that, aside from Rakish Bingham of course!

He was certainly a step above in the Conference, and I'm sure those who saw him will readily admit that. Whether that will be the case in League 2 I'm not sure but I think he's a good signing, some much needed creativity.

Am I hearing this right that Bristol Rovers actually offered Balanta a new short term deal? Why the fuck would you!?

It seems we offered everyone 'terms' of some kind in the summer, but some of them were realistically never going to be signed. Neal Trotman for example was offered something over the summer in order to prove his fitness etc. but obviously there's a huge lack of security with that. Seeing as Balanta has massively relocated and signed a relatively short-term deal with Carlisle, I'd say what we offered something similar which he probably was never going to take up.

Reading through this thread and seeing the numbers the likes of Carlisle and Notts County are having on trial are warning signs for me. I don't know too much about either side but is it fair to make the observation that you're still building your squad for next season?

I say this because we have made the same mistake since coming up, we've gone into pre season with no talisman up front, no goalkeeper nailed down and still needing to fill up the squad. This left us desperate to fill positions with sub standard trialists from abroad and cast offs from other clubs, and I think it's why we have struggled particularly last season. We pinned our goalscoring hopes on Calvin Andrew in our first season FFS and an Oxford reject who ended up in Serie C last season. We replaced Alan Marriott with some prodigy from the Swiss leagues and filled up the rest of the squad with similar standard players who we should have realised weren't good enough.

This season I think Murray has done tremendously to build a squad from pretty much scrap in a short space of time. We have only 5/6 first team players who were here last season and 2 of those were youth teamers making the step up, starting pre season we only need 2/3 more signings to have a ample squad to start the season and I'm relieved we aren't going to see many trialists who seem to hit their top form in July every season.

Danny Green to Luton? Was mentioned during John Still's radio interview last night, but I'm not sure how credible it is.

Signed a 2-year deal with MK Dons last summer, but only made 4 league starts last season and a further 10 from the bench.

Heard Scott Doe could be coming our way but no idea if it's a credible rumour.
Have you actually heard it or are you on about the guy on Stagsnet who just suggested it could be him?

Not been on stagsnet today, heard it off someone which ties in to the fact he has rejected his deal at Dagenham. Probably off a Stagsnet rumour though.

As you have quickly discovered from others, Big Ange didn't exactly set the world alight in the Conference and his career has been on a downward spiral for a while. That has to be a concern for a guy who is only just turning 25.

You've signed him on reputation alone, because he produced the square root of zilch for us in terms of all-round performances when he played. He was/is unfit, anonymous defensively and didn't show he was skilful enough to beat a man when he was played out wide or in behind.

He did, however, score a couple of important goals for us, including one of the penalties in our shootout triumph at Wembley, and for that I will be forever grateful to him. To be fair he showed a couple of exceptional touches at times which wouldn't have looked out of place at a much higher level, and you can tell there is a player in there somewhere. If you were to get him as fit as he possibly can be this pre-season, he may turn in better performances for you than he did for us.

Good luck to him.
Seems like a typical Curle signing. He's very keen to offer players short-term contracts with a relatively low basic wage topped up by lots of performance related bonuses, so we'll be taking chances on players like Balanta if Curle thinks there's something there and the player's willing to give it a go then there's not too much to lose (so long as he doesn't sign a complete lemon who costs us points). Asamoah was that kind of player last season and Ibehre fits in with that general philosophy, while there are longer term contracts there to be won for players who can form the spine of the team.

I'd say we sorted our spine out pretty early, though we let a lot of players go and we're bringing a lot of players in, we went into the summer with our two goalkeepers for next season pretty much sorted; signed Kennedy and Joyce early to go alongside Dempsey in the centre, and retained Rigg, Wyke and Asamoah, brining in Ibehre too on the eve of training. It's just defence I'm not too sure about. Grainger may play in a back three, in which case he'd be part of the spine, we've moved quickly to add defenders to the squad, but with O'Hanlon gone and Archibald-Henville and Meppen-Walter listed I'm not entirely sure how solid we'll be there yet.

We have 8 on trial with us.

That's the norm every season here. I've known some years where we've had 10-15 players on trial for the first week of pre season, and it's not just when we're shit, it's the same when we're successful.
