Got to say that is the first women's game I've ever got invested in as much as a men's game, brilliant solidarity by them and clearly more passion than the men's team.

Well done England. It has been a joy to watch a passionate bunch so far.

Japan don't give much away so do feel we will need to score first but then I thought that against Norway and was proven wrong..

Manager seems to be getting his tactics and selections right now..

Great result for England but bloody irritated. I was knackered so went to bed and left it to record the game for watching first thing this morning. Not recorded though. Aaaaarrrggghhhh!

That was superb. In terms of performance, we didn't do anything amazing with the ball but the heart and guts they showed out there is exactly what you want from a national team. I have to give credit to the manager as he got it badly wrong against France in terms of approach but has learned each game and used his group games to give himself an idea of who was playing well for going into the knock out stages.

Delighted he played Jodie Taylor last night as she is our best striker. Her movement and presence up that far exceeds anything Aluko, White or Sanderson can bring. Toni Duggan is the closest to her in terms of ability. It was right to leave Kirby out as well despite her talent for the more physical Scott.

Pleased we're playing Japan over the Germans and Americans. I think we're capable of winning but making no mistake, this is a step up from Canada. The Canadians are similar to us in terms of having a few star players and relying on their physicality and passion to make up for perhaps a few limitations elsewhere. The Japanese are technically excellent and will completely dominate the ball against us so it's up to us to stand up, not dive in as they're quite nifty and look to hit on the counter.

Agree with the comments above, about playing Taylor instead of the alternatives (Aluko or Kirby), but wonder if he might change the forward line up again for the Japan game. The thing that has impressed me about Samson is that he is prepared to change the team line-up, formation and tactics depending on the opposition, such an un-English approach to the game (yeah, I know he is Welsh, so maybe I should have said British). I had a feeling that if we could get past Norway then we could also beat the Canadians, so it proved, but the Japanese will be a completely different opponent. I am not so sure that he did get it wrong against the French, when you consider that they stuffed us on the last time we faced each other, it was only a defensive slip that allowed them to score.

Sampson's greatest feat is uniting the squad and bringing back in some very good players that Powell alienated. If Powell was still manager, I'm sure we'd have been subjected to Anita Asante (basically the English woman's version of Vurnon Anita, in other words, contributes fuck all), Rachel Yankey slowly dying out on the wing and Kelly Smith living off glories from 10 years ago up front.

Instead, the likes of Chapman and Taylor have been brought back in to great effect and the likes of Bronze and Kirby have been unveiled along with other good prospects like Greenwood at left back and Jade Moore in midfield.

It's so nice to not have to watch an England team with Aluko 1v1 and fucking up a seemingly simple touch and Ellen 'the athlete' White burning off the calories up front but not actually contributing to anything threatening at all. Taylor and Duggan all day long over them two.

He is fucking dire. I can't think of a more pointless player.
Harsh. He's been pretty shite for Newcastle (but who hasn't?) but there's a good player in him somewhere, which is more than can be said for Obertan.

It's extremely harsh but we all have irrational dislikes.

I'm rooting for Germany (tough luck, Phil — I thought the French played some brilliant stuff at times), but I was really hoping for a USA vs. Germany final. My heart says Germany vs. England in the final, but my head says it'll be a repeat of USA vs. Japan. Either way, I'll be rooting for whichever team wins tomorrow night's Germany v. USA semi-final. I don't think the Germans have enough about them to score vs. the USA defence, so it'll be low-scoring *crosses fingers that he jinxed it*

USA dominating the Germans. I love you Morgan but you should have scored from the two good chances.

Missed PK for Sasic. Deserved call, but USA probably deserve to be leading. Julie Johnston could have been sent off, but I don't agree with the double pumishment of red card + pk.

Penalty kick incorrectly awarded to USA. 1-0. Clear obstruction of a scoring opportunity, but it was just outside the box.

Yessssss! What a game it was! Didn't think I would see a better game than France vs Germany but this edges it for me. Very fast paced and energetic game from both sides. This game pretty much had everything that we love about football. Thankfully no arguing and hounding the ref by the Germans although one of the decisions went against them. Overall the US deserved to win the game considering Germans only had ONE shot on target. If Sasic had scored the pen the game might have turned out different.

Johnston could have seen red and the USA PK was outside the box, but USA thoroughly deserved to win that game and I'll root for them in the final now. I'm disappointed to see Germany go out, but truthfully they didn't deserve to be in the final. USA elevated their game to deliver the best performance of the tournament so far, and against the best ranked team in the world. I don't think they'll be beat if they can keep that level; they have the best defense and keeper in the world, three strikers with better than 1 in 2 ratios, and Lloyd and Rapinoe are both capable of brilliance in tight matches. USA will comfortably have the home field advantage, too. Vancouver is near Seattle which has a massive soccer following in the USA.

I can't see past a repeat final, but best of luck to England tonight!

Evened up by another dubious penalty. Great penalty.
