Is Mangan a good signing? He seems a good one, but I've got no idea to be honest! Still, he scored 10 in L2 last season so the same return or better would be happy days for us.

Yes but you referenced it towards us, claiming our 1.4m in wages was because we pay for loads of experts to help our players and compete, when we don't. Really the only non-playing staff what go towards coaching as you put it, is the manager, assistant and physio.

Its a simple question as its always the fan owned clubs that try and preach about budgets and be high and mighty about how amazing they are because they are fan owned, yet complain because other clubs spend more than them.

To add to it all you can't read. I said the extra staff are only relevant IF they're playing related. If you don't have them then it's not relevant.

More Confirmed signings and new additions to the team, Joel Dixon and Mamadou Fofana!

Goalkeeper Dixon, 21, joins following his release from Sunderland. He enjoyed spells on loan at Boston and Gateshead last season and also previously enjoyed a short temporary spell at Workington under Darren Edmondson.

Frenchborn, Fofana is a 27 year old midfielder who joins after leaving Oxford City. He had two years with Lincoln City prior to that, after spells in Sweden and France.
Also Goalkeeper Aaran Taylor has signed a new one year deal to fight Dixon for the starting role.

Central defender Simon Grand also penned an amended deal to his existing contract at training at Lancaster University, with central defender Danny Livesey signing a new 2 year deal tomorrow.

Wish we had a playing budget of over a million!
We haven't had that since we got relegated.

Anyway, I wouldn't want Burr or Aspin over Hurst. I think Burr's fairly overrated by most down here. Admittedly, he's got an excellent track record of discovering, nurturing and bringing through talent from lower divisions but how much of that is actually down to him alone or the network he had at Kiddy? He seemed to it with a lot more regularity there than he does at Chester. Hurst has proven himself to be more than adept in the transfer market and is improving tactically. Personally, I'm not sure of how good a tactician Burr is.
He probably can't afford to take the gambles he could with Chester. Kiddy's in his final season, for example, was £850k and Chester's is probably half of that.

Shrewsbury fans seem very surprised that he's dropped down to the conference and some say he was offered a deal there. Sounds like if we can keep him fit he will get 20 goals.

Half our defeats but look at all those draws eh :bdick:

Just think... Could call yourselves champions if only you'd not shat yourselves against Dover.
And a small point of order for you, I was mearly pointing out to a fellow gas head the fact that you won the title on the last day, by one point, you're no Luton, neither were we, I was not belittling your achievement infact you nearly ballsed it up all on your own when you were what was it 11 points clear, so your champions, we are runners- up because, as you said, we bottled it at Woking, but one point does not, in my humble opinion, make Barnet FC the runaway winners of the league, well done for winning the title, but it was always yours to lose anyway the length of time you were up there. And finally, why shouldn't I be proud of our record, first 4 away games, three defeats and a draw then unbeaten the rest of the season, but that is me being proud of my boys, not belittling your teams achievements ok?

Looked good when I went to watch Shrewsbury last season. Pretty sure he scored the equaliser against Chelsea, in the Capital one Cup.

Mangan is hell of a signing for Tranmere providing his knee problem does not re-occur, he scored 10 goals for us last season but missed a good chunk of the season. This will most likely be the reason MM was unsure to keep him at Shrewsbury for the wage he would have wanted and we are surprised he has dropped lower than league 2 even with his recent injury problem!

You're probably the biggest team down here next season White Army, but if you have a shaky start like the other Rovers had last season you may have to settle for the play-offs. Can't wait to get to Prenton Park next season. I worked at St Catherine's Hospital for 10 years and we never had a league game in all that time.

Oh i know. Under no illusions that it will be incredibly difficult and a great achievement to bounce straight back up, but the early signs are good, and the board are giving it a right go.

I too have never been to a Chester Tranmere game, hopefully its early on in the season.

I still like Mangan, he's a great character. Problems with this are that his busted knee could go again at any time and he's not played regular week after week football since the 11-12 season, so there's your worry. On the plus side he is proven with 3 clubs down here so he is as good as anyone in this league if fit. I reckon Tranmere have seriously pushed the boat out with this signing as there would have been L2 clubs in for him too. I see this Tranmere side being a right old boys club with the type of players signed, and Brabin. It could go either way.

What a signing Mangan is. Surely he's on a hell of a wedge.

Andy Mangan was a great player but after his knee injury was never quite the same again. Thinks he's mates with Scott Davies

Andy Mangan signed
Considering he was on nearly 3 grand here a couple of seasons ago he won't be cheap.

I think we'll see a relegated club going straight back up for the second season In a row, could be a painful day when we play you lot now :(

I went to a Tranmere v Grimsby game we they were both in 2nd Division (Championship now) in the early 1990s. All I can remember about the game was John Aldridge and Paul Futcher (ex-Chester) having a stand-up fist fight and getting sent off. I also remember it was a big crowd, probably over 10,000. I've been to many Tranmere/Chester games over the years, but it must be over 20 years since last one.

Mangan a decent signing for Rovers if he stays fit.
I've been around long enough to see us lose to Chester in a league game. Never seen Rovers play at the Deva though.

True, although he is still bringing young talent through here, our squad is quite young in general. Take Heneghan for example, part of the Droylsden team that was getting mashed in the Evo-Stik every week, we'll end up making plenty of money from him at some point as he moves up the leagues.

His backroom team at Kiddy did excel in finding good young talent though, we've brought in Andy Fearn now as a scout but Steve Guinan was also instrumental behind a lot of the success there too.

Very happy with our strike force now in Norwood,Mangan & Stockton. Just need some width, squads shaping up nicely.

I don't get involved with these pointless budget arguments that seem to happen every year...

All I can say is our budget has been cut massively

Neither do I, thoroughly pointless when most of us haven't a clue what the budgets are at any club, least of all the one we follow.

The manager did say that he wanted a smaller squad, it was a bit bloated when he took over from Hockaday, too many players on lengthy contracts who had little expectation of playing in the first team. Since the end of last season we have seen eight players depart, either released or at the end of their contract. Contrast this with the number of replacements, which stands at three, plus two one year deals for lads from the academy (one of whom was already in the squad last season). So, the manager seems to be getting his way with regards to having fewer players, let's see how it works next season. We may have one of the smaller squads in the league next season, who cares what they are being paid as long as they perform on the pitch.

I think you'll find there's one person on this forum that knows exactly what each clubs budgets are from having a seat at every board room table in the league.

All this budget talk, and what we are forgetting is the importance of the 'vision'. Expected more from you lot!
