First fixtures prediction

First 5 Grimsby (H), Dover (A) (On a Tuesday :ffs:

), Guiseley (A), Wrexham (H), Gateshead (A) Not the worst start we could have had, Grimsby will be tough but our games tend to be entertaining.

Cheltenham (H), FGR (A) then Cheltenham (A) for the boxing day to new years very local
Wrexham home and away on a Tuesday again. :brill:

Last 5 games Alty (H), Welling (A), Barrow (H), Dover (H) and end the season at Southport away so not a bed ending to the season either

I wouldn't be surprised if Tranmere vs Woking was moved to Friday 7th August for BT Sport.

Think Tranmere have got a tough start there. Gateshead, Altrincham and Braintree away sound like baptisms of fire at this level. Halifax and Woking at home not easy either. Will be interesting to see if they could respond after a bad start a la us, or whether their 'personalities' in the dressing room would just completely implode.

If they can get off to a good start though they've got a great chance come the end of the season. Grimsby's start though is pretty favourable and if they can avoid that early season slump they had last year it's looking good.

That end of season fixture between the two is looking pretty ominous at the moment though :lol:

So is ours at home to Cheltenham, fortunately it is towards the end of September, so we should get a pretty big crowd regardless. At least it means a team who have to travel some distance get to play us on a Saturday, rather than try and make it here for a Tuesday evening. My worst fear about the Christmas/NY games were confirmed, with Torquay away, I was hoping that the person with the map might cock their measurements up and pair them with Eastleigh.

As Gashead says above Id think you be relegated into North. I expect you to gain promotion back at the first attempt though

The one thing I've learnt over the years of watching Tranmere is to expect the unexpected. All these people predicting promotion at the first attempt means we'll inevitable make an absolute mess of it!

I'm amazed we've got Tranmere the last game of the season, you couldn't write that sort of stuff (oh, wait) based on our history at that place I dearly hope it's a dead rubber because losing out on promotion there would probably cause a riot.

It is difficult for Tranmere fans not to think "this will be easy". Three seasons ago, we went to Braintree in the FA Cup and won 3-0. We were a League One side and there was a clear gulf in class. It's hard to adjust one's mentality after two successive relegations although hopefully the players will be mentally ready even if some of our fans will be saying "we should be beating these" every week.

The first few matches for Rovers do look favourable enough but the bottom line is that everyone plays everyone home and away over the course of the season. We should be prepared the same way for every match, taking nothing for granted but hopefully the calibre of players we have just recruited will help us go close to the title.

If Altrincham and Braintree are baptisms of fire, then which clubs wouldn't be?! With respect to them, the bookies have them right down the pecking order and they are infinitely preferable to getting Chester or Wrexham (or even Cheltenham or Grimsby).

He means in terms of "shock" defeats by traditionally smaller clubs at this level, it's a common thing for league clubs who drop to non-league.

The Braintree game was just a one off, we've played 92 games over the last two seasons and been terrible in pretty much all of them.

I'm trying to keep an open mind but it wouldn't surprise me, despite the change in manager and most of the squad, if takes another season to shake off that losing mentality. You only have to look at the game against York first of last season where people started booing after Koumas was subbed to see the amount of pressure placed on the manager and players (which will probably have increased after another relegation).

The Braintree game was the season in L1 where we stormed the first half of the season before tailing off to finish 11th.

The losing mentality doesn't exist with the new manager and the majority of players that make up the new squad. They haven't suffered two relegations and neither have the Palios' who only took charge after last season had started.

Looking at Bristol Rovers' start last season, they lost three and drew one of their first four away matches so there might be some early adjustment. And yes, there will obv be pressure but also some great support from majority of fans home and away. You'll always get moaners at Prenton Park, sure as eggs is eggs!

Cardsfan has it spot on - they are traditionally 'smaller' clubs, but they are good at beating the 'big' ones. Ask Grimsby, Wrexham, us, Luton etc. etc.

At this level you will come across some crap, but if you show any kind of complacency, especially away from home, teams like that will beat you. Which is why, if Tranmere have any sense of 'this is going to be easy' like some of our fans/players did, those sorts of games against little old Braintree and Altrincham will show them up.

So far its looking good for you lot though, the recruitment has impressed me for sure. Little scepitcal about Brabin but we'll see.

Brabin is probably not the best manager in the league (that would be Gary Johnson) although he's obviously experienced in managing at this level and being a scouser with an understanding of the club was a big draw in the eyes of Mark Palios. He doesn't have much to follow after last season's failures...

My only worry with him was his failure to get either of Cambridge and Luton promoted, not to say he's a bottler but that's the only thing missing from his CV I'd be worried about. He might be a good choice though, as I say all will become clearer in August/September

Only disappointment is our promotion party won't be in front of our home fans, unless we wrap up the title before the last day of the season.

Not this season (I hope!). A lot of optimism at the club with the new manager and some decent signings, there's a lot of talk of aiming for the play-offs but I feel we don't have the depth yet.

I'm sure not many people would have had Woking and Macc down as play off contenders last season but they both came really close, so you never know, you could be dark horses.

I didn't think the Rovers August set of fixtures look that bad, up against sides who are sound at this level, but unlikely to make top five. It will be a good indication of how quickly the side will gel and adapt at this level. The end of season looks very tough, with a trip to Eastleigh sandwiched between homes v Wrexham and Grimsby, all at least likely play-off contenders.
