Not my cup of tea but shows that have been running for 50 odd years and 30 years must be doing something right.

True, but best ever? No way. Amazes me why people still tune in to watch the same storylines on a 3year conveyor belt.

Not just about that though, it's about the characters that you grow up/old with. Someone like Anne Kirkbride who plays Deirdre for example has a presence both on screen and off to an extent where her death is felt by millions - which is testament to what a programme like Corrie and it's longevity can do.

Arguably something with such longevity is more worthy of a place on this list as it's stood the test of time for over 30-50 years, encapsulating around 3 generations of people consistently. To do that and to address issues of the time is so important, and soaps in particular are the main TV interest in talking about taboo subjects - they're so important, more so than a lot of people realise.

Anyone who refers to Corrie as Corro needs castrating with a blunt butter knife.

I understand what you're saying, I went off on a bit of a tangent about Corrie as it's something I've watched on and off for years. There's just certain moments that touch you far more than a series like Breaking Bad or House ever could, characters like Deirdre for example that you build a relationship with over a period of time and despite it being fictional, you rejoice with them/feel their pain whenever a storyline affects them in a way far more clearly (can't think of a better word), than a shorter running drama. Just certain things in Corrie over the years that I've loved, characters that reflect people I know, storyline's that are just extremely funny like Peter Barlow's drinkers meeting which descended into farce or Blanche's will reading which is another excellent clip available on YouTube.

Guess what I'm trying to say is, that I included a show like Corrie because it's something that you can look back on and pick out certain moments that will always live with you because you've known these characters, places, and their habits that reflect yours for years. Mike Baldwin's final scenes make me tingle the most out of anything I've ever watched (no understatement), because it's realistic and you've lived through his downfall with him. I remember watching that when I was about 7, and watching it back now you appreciate what an immensely powerful storyline it is - and that he's a character that I love. The only thing that comes close to giving me shivers like that is that "Do it for Bobby" line, in a TV advertisement.

I've rambled again, and I'm not sure what my point even is any more, but that's a couple of reasons why I love things like Corrie.

Sons of Anarchy was high on my list. Thoroughly enjoyable and easy to watch programme. Highly entertaining at times and sometimes quite trashy, but definetely worth a watch for anyone that doesn't take TV too realistically.

78. Spooks
Points: 33 | Lists: 2 | Number One's: 0 | 2013 Position: 68th | 2011 Position: 34th
Seasons: 10 | Episodes: 86

Spooks is a British drama series, which is also known as MI-5 in some countries. Airing from 2002-2011, this show follows the work of MI5 officers based at the Thames House headquarters. It is notable for both high production value, and its use of popular guest stars. The series continued in 2015, with a film (Spooks: The Greater Good).

It faced a big drop in 2013 after a strong finish in the first Top TV Shows list, but unfortunately it falls again here after making just two lists.

77. Groundforce
Points: 33 | Lists: 2 | Number One's: 0 | 2013 Position: N/A | 2011 Position: N/A
Seasons: 6 | Episodes: 30

Groundforce is a British garden makeover series originally broadcast on BBC Two (and later BBC One) between 1997 and 2005. The series was originally hosted by Alan Titchmarsh, Charlie Dimmock, and Tommy Walsh.

In each episode, a team of gardeners make over the garden of an individual who has been nominated by a member of their family or a friend. Whilst that individual is away, the team, assisted by friends and family, make over the garden over two days, and surprise the individual on their return. The team was led by Alan Titchmarsh, gardener Charlie Dimmock, builder Tommy Walsh and his assistant Will Shanahan.

The series moved to BBC One for the second series. Titchmarsh left in 2002, saying that he felt the series was becoming repetitive and because he wasn't able to work with materials like stainless steel and do intricate brickwork patterns due to time and money constraints. Kirsty King joined the team after Titchmarsh left.

The series was credited with helping the increase in sales of garden decking in the late 1990s and early 2000s due to its use during the series. Retailer B&Q had sales rise from £5,000 in 1997 to £16 million in 2001.

The series was cancelled in 2005. At its peak, the series attracted 12 million viewers.

Unfortunately clips are once again hard to come by, but here's the incredibly catchy theme tune.

Anyone else remember when Max died? That was some of the edgiest shit I've ever seen, think it will always live with me.

I would post a link to Max's death from Hollilater but it's pre-watershed here in the UK so no one should be watching it at this time of day.
