Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Yet twists in rules seem to waste ridiculous levels of money.

the government now centralizes Election registrations to just the DWP than individual councils and since then its meant lots of forms sent out to people in the area telling them, then registering them, then checking the register, then checking the checking of the checking of the register, then deciding the open register, then re-checking the checking of the checked check of the open register etc, etc.

"I'd never experienced eating Pedigree chum directly from the tin due to not having enough money to buy any food for myself before and I have to say, I bloody loved it - thanks DWP!"

Paul, Cornwall.
 Brilliant mate.

We should carry the theme on a bit

'My son had been suffering from depression for several months. He'd tried to claim ESA, but they didn't consider him to be sick enough, so he went on Jobseekers. After a few months he got a job interview, he was really excited about this, but it was on the same day as his appointment at the Jobcentre. He forgot to inform JCP about his appointment and he didn't get the job. It was a double blow for him because he was sanctioned for not informing JCP he'd got a job interview. As you can imagine this had an affect on his mental health and he committed suicide. Thanks for bringing his suffering to an end DWP, you guys are great! :2thumb:

Pat, Lincoln.

"I got sanctioned on Christmas day for not looking for work. Big thank you to the DWP for giving me a genuine reason to get pissed on New Year Years. Now the wife can't complain. Thank you! :2thumb:"

Sir, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Duncan Smith and his very dedicated staff at the Job Centre. I'd just started getting joint custody of my son again and was saving up for his birthday present, just putting a couple of quid aside every fortnight. Then least week I was sanctioned for turning up to my appointment 5 minutes late, I thought this a bit ironic as last time I signed on I was early and had to wait 35 minutes past my appointment time. Now I'm faced with the choice between not paying for my rent, food etc or using my son's birthday money to pay for them. Thanks DWP for keeping me on my toes :2thumb:

Duncan-Smith's department caught telling blatent lies shocker! The prick has no shame in lying to the public.
Yeah that's not how things work mate. IDS may be an unpleasant individual but these leaflets will have been designed and cleared at official level.

I'd argue he's significantly more than an unpleasant individual.

Vile, odious and disgusting are the words I would probably use.

Do you reckon he'll be reprimanding the officials who cleared it? I don't.

I don't believe Duncan-Smith knew nothing about this, indeed would not be surprised if it was his idea in the first place.

Whether he did or didn't is an irrelevance in my opinion, this sort of bilious propaganda is a by product of an overarching disdain for benefit claimants that is pervasive and prevalent in the government and mainstream press at large currently. He may not have given it the green light, but he consistently cultivates the very attitude that breeds this sort of disgusting misinformation.

To be fair, while I don't veer too far from your view re benefit shame and IDS, the original criticism suggested he was a liar. I don't think he is. I think he's pretty straightforward about how he feels about all this. And the idea that he designed the leaflet is absolutely ludicrous.

I think the bit about him designing it was meant as a joke.

Duncan-Smith twelling lies on the news again today regarding gettin g disabled people back into work. The smarmy bastard has no shame, the whole country knows this about saving the government money not at all about helping disabled and sick people find work. He also claimed today he knew nothing about the fake claiments in a DWP leaflet that's bullshit! If he knew nothing about it how come he looked so embarressed when asked about it live on the news?

Something popped into my head earlier, If you are made to work even for a couple of hours a week when you have your annual work assessment tests you'll be found fit to work as you proved you can thereby losing your disability benefit, Duncan-Smith doesn't do anything without benefiting the government and hurting those who need financial help because of disability and illness.

This is the government people wanted, have you seen the latest polls? Tories at over 40%. The mind boggles, I guess there must be either a huge percentage of the population who are doing very well and couldn't care less about those less fortunate or that Labour's in such a mess that people are turning towards the Tories for some odd reason.

Perhaps Labour got so similair to tories over the past 20 years that the step from Tory to labour isnt that far thesedays. Maybe we are at heart quite selfish and so only vote in our own best interests rather than the bigger picture, austerity? who cares?, tories targeting the most vunerable? who cares? I'm alright jack.

Aside from losing votes in Scotland because they were too right wing, the other main reason I think Labour lost was because enough people bought into the idea that Labour fucked up with the economy. The treasury letter was pretty damning especially. I don't think Labour did enough to persuade floating voters that they could be trusted with the economy and the Tories successfully sold that message. Well next time they'll have been in charge of the economy for 10 years so there will be no blaming Labour then.

I think you're right about the step from Labour to Tories not being so great nowadays. There was a woman on the Victoria Derbyshire show this morning who despite being a life long Labour voter, voted Tory at the last election. For people on the centre right or floating voters the difference isn't that much of a step. It's why I hope Corbyn does win because even if he won't become the next PM he will have hopefully awoken the Labour party from having sleepwalked into neo liberalism for nearly 20 years and forgetting its social democratic past.

One last thing too, Andy Burnham's ears resemble those of a rodent. Next time you see him from an appropriate angle look at his ears.

People shouldn't be surprised or think this is Tory policy failing, they're actually gradually killing those they demonise. There is no party more vile and hateful in this country than the Conservative party.

I get slightly more tax credits under their new rulings than I got before.

I still despise the Tories.

I don't need to, that's the problem. A good political cartoon should be borderline unfathomable. These look like they've been done by a GCSE student who's been listening to the News Quiz.
