Yep. Gonna start it soon.
Lucky bugger.

Let me know your early thoughts when you've installed it and played a little.

Mine will come early with the postman, as is the norm with Graingers.

Sadly I'll be stuck at fucking work.

Don't you just fucking love 12hr days at work, when all you wanna do is get home and play a game. Home now anyway, it's arrived, gonna set it installing while I go and have a soak in the bath. 60hr week at work, I'm fucking ruined.

Played about 30 minutes of it and looks like it's going to be great. Could do with a thread.

Got madden 16 and enjoying it, will be a replacement for FIFA for now I think. The aggressive catch is very overpowered though, works almost every time.

Got Until Dawn. Was hoping to get money off with my nectar points, but Stringy's girlfriend 'broke' my nectar card. It worked 2 hours later in Sainsburys

I don't want to post in the Until Dawn thread in case of seeing spoilers. but just wanted to point out it is fucking amazing! :D

I've seen some good reviews but I'm still not really sure what the game is like? Is there any other games it can be compared to?

It has the decision aspect of say The Walking Dead games, and just as an engrossing storyline. Telltale's games are probably what they can be most closely compared too.

So the original Playstation is twenty years old. Does anyone remember when they first got theirs or any other memories of the console?

I remember getting up a few weeks before Christmas to go to the toilet and I heard sounds coming from the living room. Turned out to be Croc! That was a particularly good Christmas. . I think some of my best memories on the original PS would be dogs through the window in Resident Evil, Playing FF7 for the first time, my jaw dropping at almost every point of MGS and having a blast on the original Crash Bandicoot.

20 YEARS.

Jeez.

I was like a million miles away from everybody else in terms of knowing about that sort of thing when it came out. In fact, I remember going back to school after xmas holidays and everybody asking each other what they had for xmas, a lot of people said they had a Playstation. I had no idea what the hell it was. I always imagined it as some kind of better version of this:

toys-city-garage-79199.jpg

Which obviously made me jealous as fuck, because those little play sets were always awesome so if there was one special enough for everybody to have one it must have been pretty damned cool.

But yeah, in the coming weeks I realised that it was a games console, and I used to go to a mates all the time and play Tekken, Crash Bandicoot, Worms and GTA and stuff. But then of course, that fateful day arrived a year or two down the line where I'd decided that my Atari, Master System and Spectrum were finally getting a bit old so I wanted an update and I got a PS1 of my own for xmas with Crash Bandicoot 2 and Gran Turismo. A few weeks later I went into a second hand shop and bought two games that I just throught looked cool purely on their box art; The Lost World and Overboard. And before I knew it I'd built up a nice little collection of PS1 games, and then along came THE GAME. Metal Gear Solid. And from that point on, the idea of not staying on top of the gaming industry and knowing about all of the good shit just would not compute.

Fuck it, in celebration, here is a quick fire selection of the best fuckin' things going on that console and anybody who says otherwise needs shooting:

Metal Gear Solid (duh)
Tekken 3
Jade Cocoon
Final Fantasy VII (duh)
Twisted Metal 2
Lego Racers (fuck yeah shut up and sit down Mario)
Crash 2
Crash 3
Crash Bash
Gex: Deep Cover Gecko
Overboard
Abes Oddysee/Exodus
Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles
Dino Crisis 1/2
Spyro
Parappa
Tony Hawks (especially 3)

'cking 'ell what a console that was. Fuck off N64.

Lego Racers was good, but... Micro Machines on Sega Megadrive was better.

Loved that game.

Oaf's experience is uncannily similar to my own, but I was bought a PS1 for my 7th birthday in 1997.

My mum and dad split up when I was very young and my dad's girlfriend (who was 20 at the time(!!!!)) had a Playstation that her previous flame had left behind when he left, so I was often plopped in front of the telly with the PS1 while her and my dad got on with... errrr... other things. She had Crash Bandicoot and Legacy of Kain. I didn't get very far in either, but both left a distinct impression on me. LOK in particular must look very tame by today's standards but to a kid in 1997 it was terrifying in that compellingly almost Lovecraftian way.

MGS hooked me, though. Bizarrely I think the story made far more sense to me as a child than it does to me now. I'd love to go back in time and show eight-year-old me screenshots of the Phantom Pain. I'd have fucking freaked.

Wow where do I start?

I actually can't remember getting my PS1, but I remember being very young and the opening sequence scared the hell out of me. We didn't have very much money so we couldn't afford for me to have the blockbuster games. I did get some good games though, but not like I can do now.

Special mention to the following;

- Demo One - Lets be honest that's where we all started!!
- FIFA 98/99 - I had it on the mega drive but these two games were unbelievable (INDOOR GAMES!!)
- Medal of Honor - I love WWII so this was perfect.
- SCARS - A Mario Kart type game.
- MGS - Well obviously
- Alien Trilogy - Opened the first door, got scared - never touched it again.
- Command & Conquer - PATSUX, need I say more...?

Bit late to memory lane on this one.
Not sure what year it was I got my PS1 but the first games I got were Croc and one top down helicopter game that resembled desert strike.

I really liked Croc but was terrible at it, just used to do the cheat to open all levels, my year 4 teacher was stuck on Croc and was well impressed when I recited it from memory for her to write down.
I got it chipped and got a copy of Medal Of Honor, was completely oblivious to PAL and NTSC and completed the game in black and white assuming that was how it was meant to be played.
Had a Zelda rip off called Alundra that was sick but never got very far on it
Never actually owned MGS and FF7 until much later, but my small mind probably wouldn't have comprehended them very well so...
