Cries and Whispers.

That's it. I'm done. No more classic arty cinema for me. I just can't be getting on with it.

Unfriended 6/10

Go on Skype with 4-5 friends and all scream at the same time, resulting in that sweet, distorted noise.

It's entirely based on a laptop screen page and uses social media to drive the narrative, which is novel for now but soon to be cliche in 1-2 years. Bonus point for it getting in first.

Plot is adequate enough to hold your attention.

Solid teen movie thing. I quite enjoyed it I did. Actually rather smart and surprisingly funny - lovely little rapport between the two lead characters as well. Plenty of CHARM.

Expected Goals
Normally, I don't give Marvel films the time of day, but I watched Ant Man in the hope that it would be playful and silly like Guardians of the Galaxy. Instead it was the same old cookie-cutter shit they've been putting out for the last ten or fifteen years. I will retreat back to my conclusion that Guardians was a one-off and Marvel can't produce anything that isn't utterly bland. Lesson learnt.

Disturbia

Teenager Kale Brecht (Shia LaBeouf) is put under house arrest after he assaults his Spanish teacher. He spends his time spying on his neighbours, and one night he witnesses an apparent murder in Mr Turner's house. He, and his friends, become obsessed in finding the truth about the neighbour, which leads to several life-threatening encounters.

Very good film, some jumpy moments and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. This review doesn't do the film justice, I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys suspense films.

Switchblade Romance
Brutal French slasher flick, directed by the talented Alexandre Aja. Violent, gory, full of tension. In my top 5 horror flicks, possibly top 3. The ending is a bit of a let down but I'm over it. 9/10.

Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol [2011]

Bit overlong at over two hours, but the set pieces were good and the introduction of both Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg to the cast added levity to the proceedings. It also felt a bit like a BMW ad at times as well where they were used in three scenes as plot devices.

Great film - love the soundtrack - but would you still call him a talented director? Nothing else he's done has even come close to Haute Tension. Horns was probably his next best film but everything else has been dire. Maniac - rubbish. The Pyramid - shocking (and not in a good way). Piranha 3D - pass. The Hills Have Eyes - crap. I don't get the love for him - he's made more crap that M. Night. Shyamalan but doesn't get close to the amount of abuse that MNS gets.

I think he still has talent, I quite liked The Hills Have Eyes and P2 and up until the ending I thought Mirrors was decent. I'm unsue on Horns becaue i can't take Daniel Radcliffe seriously because he's rubbish. Everything else has been pretty below par though. The Pyramid was woeful but I think he only produced that.

He's got another film out this year, hopefully that'll be back to the quality of Switchblade Romance.

Anyone seen a film called Empire Of The Ants [1977]? Its meant to be laughably bad and I really want to see just how bad it is!

New World (2013) - Korean
About gangsters and undercover cops - pretty good movie but not as good as some of the other great Korean action/thrillers (Man from Nowhere, Oldboy, I Saw the Devil, The Chaser.) These four are probably the must watch korean action/thriller if you love those kind of movies.

Pretty awful film. I love the originals but this just tried too hard to rekindle the magic. Silly storyline and some pretty dreadful effects didn't help.

Went to the pictures to see that. I came out at the end open-mouthed wondering wtf I just saw. Awful.

It was shit but you watched it again?

The family wanted to watch it, I warned them it was garbage but they insisted. Sat through it anyway, probably the worst 86 minutes I've sat through and I just struggled to make an impact in a football game where the opposition needed velcro to fasten their boots.

7.5/10

Don't usually go for this kind of superhero mutant thingie, but it was surprisingly enjoyable.
The bit where that grey haired fast fucker seems to slow time down, and starts redirecting the guards bullets etc....is a great scene.(He's actually just moving really fast in comparison to the others, as I had to explain to the missus) #topbantz from the lad.

Decent little film.

Mystic River: 8/10

When the daughter (Emmy Rossum) of ex-con Jimmy Marcus (Sean Penn) is murdered, two of his childhood friends from the neighborhood are involved. Dave (Tim Robbins), a blue-collar worker, was the last person to see her alive, while Sean (Kevin Bacon), a homicide detective, is heading up the case. As Sean proceeds with his investigation, Jimmy conducts one of his own through neighborhood contacts. Eventually, Jimmy suspects Dave is the culprit and considers taking the law into his own hands.

Can't believe this one slipped under my radar for so many years. Great film. Brilliantly acted.
