I've watched it several times over the years and it's still as good as ever. 10/10.

Honeymoon

A couple are on their honeymoon (unsurprisingly) in a cabin in the woods in some remote area. One night, the wife disappears for a while and the husband finds her naked in the woods. After that things get a little strange.

It's described as a horror but it's not scary at all, just a bit weird and it has some gory your parts. It's certainly different and interesting but it's not a great film by any stretch. Worth a watch if you have a spare 90 minutes.

Mean Creek

A kid (Sam) who is getting bullied by another kid (George) who has learning difficulties convinces his older brother to help him by humiliating him. They plan to strip him naked and make him run home.

A group of them, including George, go on a boating trip down a river however they decide against putting their plan into action but things all go wrong.

It's a bit of a teen "Deliverance" and I really enjoyed it. The acting was superb for a group of youngsters. The guy who played George in particular. Would definitely recommend.

The Name of the Father

The story of Gerry Conlon, one of the Guildford Four who were wrongfully imprisoned for an IRA bombing of a pub in Guildford.

Really gut wrenching stuff in places. Daniel Day Lewis is absolutely excellent in it. I'm too young (seriously) to remember the incident and didn't know too much about it. I have no idea how accurate the film is, probably not very in places, but if even half of it is true, it's pretty bad.

That film is excellent. But then I don't remember seeing a film with DDL in where he didn't put in a fantastic turn. Probably the greatest character actor of our generation

I'd never heard of the film until this week. Definitely glad I watched it.

As for DDL, I agree. I haven't seen all his films but I'm struggling to think of anything he's been anything less than great in.

Star Trek : Into Darkness [2013]

Second time I've seen this as I was testing my new headphones for the sound, and then decided to watch it through once again. Not as good as the first episode in the reboot, though it still had some fine set-pieces and good chemistry. Cumberbatch was having a lot of fun hamming it up as Khan and he did a convincing enough job as the baddie. Unnecessarily mushy at the end which felt forced and added in only to reference the Wrath of Khan. However overall this was an adequate enough entry into the franchise and was mainly good fun.

Gone Girl

It had all the makings of a really good film but I was left a bit disappointed in all honesty. Far too many plot holes to make it a great film. I was waiting for a big twist that never came either.

Ghosts Of Mars [2001]

Wow. What can I say. I like a lot of John Carpenter's films, even when they are poor, but this was just awful beyond words!

Supposed ghosts inhabit the bodies of miners on Mars and Natasha Henstridge is a cop who has to take in a supposed bad ass criminal Ice Cube, but they team up (along with a pre-bald Jason Statham) when they come under attack. Poor effects, dreadful writing and acting, and bad guys that just scream a lot and offer little else make this a turgid affair. I didn't think it was going to be great when I stumbled across the start of it, but it was a lot worse than I thought it was going to be. Even Carpenter's scoring, which is usually memorable is off the mark and totally forgettable.

The Addams Family [1991]

Caught the last hour of this earlier tonight and it still charms no matter how many times you've seen it. Brilliant from start to finish.

Furious 7

Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous nonsense. And really enjoyable. A bit too long but apart from that it was a lot of fun with some great set pieces. It had a nice tribute to Paul Walker at the end as well.

I have just come back to it tbh. I saw the original and its sequel at the pictures years back and went off it when they started using CGI for the stunts. I was astonished it was still going well frankly and I heard it had turned into something different. Instead of focussing on racing, they switched to ludicrous plots and heists with the cars reduced to background characters, and it has worked big time. I also liked seeing Statham and a pleasant cameo by Kurt Russell who I've always liked, sending themselves up and The Rock being Rambo in it. How they stick with Vin Diesel though is a mystery, the guy has no charisma, a weird squashed face and half the time you can't understand a word he says.

I think I'll look for Furious 6 and see if its just as stupid.

I think I'll give that a bash, the big lass is funny and Statham looks good in it as well. He's everywhere that guy, he must be worth a fortune.

Frank [2014]

Black comedy about a talentless musician with delusions of grandeur who joins a band which is extremely weird and has a lead singer/songwriter who wears a massive fake head all the time. Very funny and touching, this was very enjoyable, and I liked the weird experimental music they made in it. Worth a watch.

Woman in Gold.

What an excellent film. Regarding an Austrian Jew who fled the country in WW2 attempting to win back a painting which is hers by right but is worth 200 odd million so Austria won't let it go.

very enjoyable film with a nice flow of flashbacks to real time.
