 Beats throwing up inside the ground I suppose!

Had to do this drinking challenge. Pint of cream, then orange juice, then fizzy water and then Guinness. Got half way through the Guinness and it came screaming back up. Good fun though.

I think a few were put off by their experience on their previous visit but that's still poor to me.
No denying its a poor turnout, like you say the experience of our previous visit put a lot off, also the general feel around the place just doesn't seem that good, it's a testing time me thinks!!

292 Cobbs at Stanley.

Would have been more had Northants not been at T20 finals day.

I think a lot were put off - 640 went on the longer, midweek journey to Wimbledon. Had our original experience been better I think somewhere closer to the 1,300 we took last time would've been possible.

I'm someone who does half a dozen away days a season and despite being one of our closer games, Barnet was right near the bottom of my list of possible trips this year.

For me though, the kettling we got from police and stewards was only one part of why I thought it was a poor away day - I decided not to go primarily because of the unappealing stadium, lack of atmosphere and no decent pubs around the ground.

Well your place is hardly Wembley now, is it?

The stadium is a work in progress but hardly 'unappealing' - it's turning into a modern football ground. The atmosphere from home fans is indeed shit, but away fans create their own atmosphere and the terrace holds the sound pretty well - so if there is a lack of atmosphere I suggest you all work harder to produce one of your own! I'll grant you the pubs, it's a trek. But we now have 3 bars on sight so that's not even an excuse not to visit anymore either.

Either way you missed out on a vastly improved experience for Cambridge fans this time around.

Probably why it's unappealing.

God forbid they sampled some of the away hospitality at Underhill then. It wasn't quite on Kenilworth Road levels but that was the definition of unappealing.

Nah, I always liked Underhill, as long as I grabbed a space on the terrace. Much prefer going somewhere like that to Leicester or Colchester. The open seating was a bit grim, mind.

The away seating was so bad! Looked like something a school would put up in the sports hall for class pictures. The ground had charm but was such a rust bucket, mismatched place. The Hive has many, many issues but I do like that it's something approaching a sensible ground.

Speaking of grounds, I loved how there were flats on the corners of Brisbane Road! They must be brilliant to have in the summer - put your feet up, grab a beer and enjoy the game.

I really liked Underhill, nice big terrace to make some noise in and near enough to the big pubs on the high street. Much prefer the older grounds - give me the away end at Luton or Southend over Shrewsbury or Mansfield any day.

I imagine we will take a few to the Hive though as it's a new ground for us this season...

I get why you like older grounds, we all do, but luton, the ground and the surrounding area is a complete bin, the seats allow for fans only to be about 5ft 4.

Our away end Is probably up there for away stands rather than the shed at LOLton, without having to go through someone else's back garden

I have to say, I really liked The Hive yesterday. The atmosphere around the place was pleasant and very welcoming. There was a bar exclusive to away fans showing the early game. Could maybe do with being a bit bigger but there was plenty of room outside for a drink too so not really a problem. The away end is reasonably conducive to a decent atmosphere, we just had little to get excited about.

I never went to Underhill but as away trips go, it was pretty good. Certainly better than Luton (nearby bars are pretty much a no go), Wimbledon (can't see anything) and Lincoln (again no choice of pubs and the one we were herded into was one of the worst places I've ever experienced). Mansfield and Stevenage are hardly the best either though I would agree the away ends are better at both despite being seated.

I think it's easy to criticise new grounds but The Hive and Nene Park are both reasonable efforts in my opinion.

How did you not find a pub in Lincoln? It's full of them!

There's some decent pubs in Mansfield but if you listen to the Police and go into the Midland then you will be disappointed, and avoid our supporters bar. Stewards just pick yes/no out of a hat to decide whether to let you in that week anyway and the queues and the system is stupid. People waiting 20/30minutes to be served against Oxford.
