Yes, this is something I've said more than once. In the last two summers he's made the equivalent in buys of an entire team, and has tried to use all of them. He is the reason we have the current instability, but that doesn't mean it can't come good in the current incarnation.
it's fun watching though form our end but i guess your probably right.

OK. Which is another reason why the lineup and dynamic is significantly different and therefore too early to judge.

Englands most successful club isn't a top club. Ok then. :ffs:
It could be possible. You have had the most success in the past, but in recent times, you aren't a top club in the present. Not saying you aren't a top club, just pointing out that claim is invalid.
i think some red necks on here need to accept Suarez WAS a one man team
TBH he did carry them to 2nd, i agree with you there.

Success or otherwise in the last few years cannot negate the achievements of various Liverpool sides. When Man Utd went through their barren patch nobody questioned their status as a preeminent club.

And i'm not questioning it. The reason why United weren't questioned about their status was because they had won the league plenty of times in the last 5-10 years, unlike Liverpool. All i was saying is that it is possible that England's most successful club could not be a top club anymore, not referring to your club, i'm saying it's generally possible. If you were still England's most successful club in 2 years time, yet you had been relegated to the Championship, would you still be a top club?

Think Rodgers has made a huge bet on Christian Benteke, if he doesn't work out think Brendon Rodgers will be shown the door.

I should've been clearer on my point, but I was on my phone when I typed it. I meant the barren patch up until '92 that lasted 20-odd years.

Benteke will get 15+ PL goals this season which will be enough for him in his first year there. Rodgers will be ousted if they don't achieve top four at the end of the season.

We won't achieve top 4, so if that is the criteria for him keeping the job they may as well start looking for the replacement.

They competed but ran out of steam last year and did alright considering they didn't have a striker most of the year. They have better options and a goal threat now so they will compete further for it this year, and could well get top 4.

Liverpool's looks like pushing 30 at least though. Still a big club, that's why you've been able to attract decent names despite being relatively uncompetitive. However, I think you're seriously in danger of dropping a rung permanently now, falling into Newcastle-Spurs-Everton territory, of which it can be hard to get back from as they have seen. In fact, given Spurs' new stadium outstripping Anfield's proposed capacity, they could move ahead.

Pushing 30? So basically, what you're saying is that it's the league title or nothing in this respect? I don't agree with that. We've won Pretty much everything a club can win domestically in the last 15 years bar the title, and in some cases more than once.

Then surely he should be sacked for that signing rather than the Benteke one.
No, they decided to give him another chance, and if he got it right he would stay, and if he couldn't get the best out of him (Benteke), he would go.

Is that not the expectation given he's going into his 4th season?

Yes. But I don't believe we will achieve it given the wholesale changes that have again been made.

Selling Sterling equates to wholesale changes?

Where did I say that? No, of course it doesn't. However, selling Sterling, losing Gerrard, releasing Johnson then playing two new full backs in Gomez and Clyne, Milner in midfield, and a completely new strike force in Benteke and Firmino does. That is a 50% change in starting outfield players from last season.

Too many changes every season is why they might struggle this year Pagnell is correct.

However that is down to a deluded expectation from fans that they can win the league without top class players this puts pressure on the manager and board.

They end up paying over the odds for average/above average replacements each season.

That is not the Liverpool way when they were the second best team in England in the 80's for example.

All apart from Sterling were conscious decisions by either the club or Brenda himself though. You've had 3 seasons to plan those signings. Theoretically these recent summer recruits should be the guys to secure you 4th. We both know that isn't going to happen.

At the start of the Brenda reign the general consensus was that you'd be a consistent top 4 club within a few years yet you're looking further away than ever. You need to identify what's gone wrong and identify those responsible and hold em to account.

That's what big clubs do...

Correct, and I've pointed out more than once that there were too many over the last two summers.

That season was a blip but in general I think it's fair to say they're a team on the up, they're able to attract a better quality of player and are very much seen as a team that could disrupt the top 7. Considering where they've came from, that's impressive.
I think the wages is where their ability to attract a better quality of player (meaning an overseas guy who's ready for the big dive like Gomis and Ayew) ends. They are showing great nous in the transfer market but they're just like any other club who has a good season: they qualify for the EL, the EL takes it toll and they struggle for form in the league.

Just seen this 'stat' on Twitter, are the figures correct?

Liverpool's last 14 Premiership games: Points = 15 Goal for = 12 Goal against = 24 GD = -12 It's relegation form. Another £80m spent.
