Platini wants the job and must be a chance he'd get it..

Uefa president Michel Platini will announce later this week he wants to be the next president of Fifa.

The BBC has learned that Platini - after receiving indications of support from four continental confederations - will be a candidate when the poll is held on 26 February next year.

The 60-year-old former France international midfielder could declare as early as Wednesday.

Swiss Sepp Blatter, 79, has been in charge of Fifa since 1998.

He is standing down in February as a result of a corruption crisis at world football's governing body.

And Platini is the overwhelming favourite to replace him.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter deserves a Nobel Prize, says Russian president Vladimir Putin.

World football's governing body is engulfed in a corruption crisis, including an investigation into the award of the 2018 World Cup to Russia.

Yet Putin is a big fan of the under-fire Blatter, 79.

"People like Mr Blatter or the heads of big international sporting federations, or the Olympic Games, deserve special recognition," he said.

"If there is anyone who deserves the Nobel Prize, it's those people."

While it's good these companies are leveraging Blatter out of FIFA it has to be pointed out this is the path of least resistance for them to take. They might be standing against Blatter, but they'll be doing it so an untainted head of FIFA can be installed. They'll then happily sponsor the shit out of a corrupt World Cup hosted by a bunch of Human Rights violators.

Things coming to a head for Blatter, looks like he's about to get a three month suspension. If it happens it will be pretty much the end of him and FIFA (loud round of applause), regardless of what the result of the investigation is. He's leaving in February anyway, and he won't be allowed back until January should the suspension be carried out. Platini is having to answer questions too regarding a £1.35m payment from Blatter in 2011, perhaps as a result he could end up being forced out of the race to replace him. Never liked him so no big deal.

While this move doesnt officially invalidate Platini's move for the presidency he will be unable to confirm his bid by the deadline of the 26th of October. So thats him Fucked. Good. This is awesome.

Its going to be fascinating now who comes forward from inside Fifa.

The main thing is that is the last of Blatter. Platini's frontline FIFA career likely being over too is a bonus.

FIFA have a big, big opportunity here. They can't afford to fuck it up. The first thing that needs doing is a thorough and transparent enquiry of the 2022 World Cup. If Qatar were awarded it fair and square then that is the end of it. If, as suspected by most, they were awarded it through nefarious means, then they should surely be stripped of it.

This is the same Hayatou who has been fending off various allegations of bribes and corruption since the 1990s. His background in athletics meant he was FIFA’s main representative to the IOC for a decade. He was investigated by the IOC on a couple of occasions for various dealings, although they couldn’t pin anything on him.

We know South Africa 2010 had all sorts of interesting deals going on, such as the stuff Valcke is now implicated in. Hayatou was the top man organising South Africa 2010 put there by Blatter. BBC Panorama once made a case against Hayatou for bribes allegedly taken over deciding who got world cup TV rights. The Sunday Times once went for him claiming an alleged bribe paid to him for African votes towards Qatar 2022.

And this is the bloke the Ethics Committee have put in charge for now. You cannot make this stuff up. Any normal organisation would pick someone from left field who at the very least couldn’t possibly bring more allegations to the table.

I think FIFA is so thoroughly corrupt throughout, the only solution is to bring in someone from outside the football community. For example someone like Lord Coe. The only problem is, as that someone has to be of sound judgement and of a high moral nature, who on earth fulfilling those requirements would want to take on that nest of hornets? You'd have to be stark raving mad to even want the job.
