Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Watch Bale get injured and miss the tournament now, Would be typical.

Wonder if Giggs shed a solitary tear and wondered as to what might have been?

Nope, the point they had deducted means they can only qualify directly by finishing second. Hungary are top of the third place table.
I stand corrected.

I make that three times out of three that Vardy has controlled the ball straight out of play.

Mthink there's an issue with how we approach new arrivals on the international scene. Vardy has scored a lot of goals for Leicester this season, but the pressure at international level 'Perform NOW or you will never get another look in' can't make it easy.

Nice goal by Kane there, btw. He's really trying to take this chance.

OG has now tied with Rooney as England's record goal scorer.

Looking forward to the 'At home with OG' documentary next week.

Vardy just isn't a particularly good footballer. He's ridiculously quick and works really hard, but on a night like this against a massed defence he just doesn't look like an international footballer.

There's almost no point trying him out against teams like Estonia and Lithuania, his only real use would be against the likes of Germany who would leave space in behind against us.

I was going to say something similar. Vardy would be best used and a more effective player than many against the better sides. Though when it comes to playing the better sides he won't be anywhere near selection.
The style of play doesn't suit Vardy it also doesn't suit England when we go up against good sides. Hoddle pointed to it in the first half, we're playing slow build up possession football, taking our time until we can find an opening. The reason we can do this is because we have better players than the opposition. When we come up against any side that are our equals or individually superior we'll be fucked because the way we're playing now will go out the window because we won't have the ball to potter around the midfield going left n right 'til somebody has space to pass to. England do not have players of the same technical ability as many on the continent, what we do have is physical fast players who can run and press all day long, but we don't do that as rather than do what would suit us best isn't what other successful nations are doing and therefore isn't something we can copy.

so what are the chances of England overtaking Wales on the uefa rankings before the draw? Think because of France being hosts and thus automatically being in the groups it leaves us as the highest team due to be in pot 2 atm, how badly will their loss hurt Wales rankings?

I thought we were already guaranteed pot 1 given the rankings?

From my understanding the only major team in pot 2 would be Italy.

11.03 The UEFA administration seeds the teams for the qualifying, play-off and final tournament draws in accordance with the UEFA national team coefficient ranking (see Annex B). The reigning European Champions and the team of the final tournament host association are always seeded.
B.1.2 Reference period
An entire championship (qualifying competition plus final tournament) is referred to in this annex as a cycle. A half cycle consists of either a qualifying competition (group stage with or without play-offs) or a final tournament. For the calculation of the national team coefficient to be used for the below mentioned draws, as a rule, two and a half cycles are taken into account.
a. Qualifying draw
– 2010 FIFA World Cup (qualifying competition and final tournament)
– UEFA EURO 2012 (qualifying competition and final tournament)
– 2014 FIFA World Cup (qualifying competition: group stage and play-offs)
b. Play-off and final tournament draws
– UEFA EURO 2012 (qualifying competition and final tournament)
– 2014 FIFA World Cup (qualifying competition and final tournament)
– UEFA EURO 2016 (qualifying competition: group matches)

Not 100% sure but I think England are guaranteed to be in the top pot and Wales are likely to be in the lowest pot.

Hungary have qualified then... right?

And I think the pots are decided by the national team coefficients which would put Italy in pot one ahead of Belgium (assuming Turkey don't fuck it up tomorrow). But judging by this article it may well all change again, Wales for example surely will rise a fair bit.

Who knows - they will probably change it at the last minute!

Turkey need to win and hope Latvia lose to get the top 3rd place so to speak otherwise it is Hungary.

England had never won a knock-out stage game at the Euros after 90 or 120 minutes in their history. the only time they progressed was a shoot-out win vs Spain 1996 in the quarters.

the only knock-out stage they won in this century was a 1:0 vs Ecuador at the 2006 wc.

but they are in pot 1

Not sure what that's got to do with the price of fish, but thanks.

There's a 50/50 chance a team finishing top will play a team finishing 3rd now, so with a lucky 1st round draw thanks to being in pot 1 - we could be alright!

Seems daft to me that potentially group games could be harder than the first knockout game.

because it makes no sense to place England in pot 1 and Wales in pot 4. Isnt Wales not above England in the world ranking?

Such a let down having so many teams, I loved the euros because of the quality but next year really will be the worst. Still watch it though.:bg:
