I wouldn't tell them. If you do tell them as you say they'll be devastated and it will be upsetting for you. If you don't tell them maybe nobody else will either and they'll never know it died. Also if you don't tell them someone might and without being heartless about it would you rather someone else deliver the bad news or you? Hopefully it's not their cat, but it probably is.

I couldn't say nothing in front of her kids but after a couple of beers earlier decided to give the lady a phone call. Fortunately for me several local residents had already notified her, and the chap who lives outside where it died. As we live next to a park the corpse was no doubt recovered by foxes or something as there is no trace of it. I guess in hindsight I should have took it to a vet??? at least they could of returned body to owner, even if its eye was hanging out.
fucked up situation

I'm wanting to arrange a birthday shindig for myself, but have no idea how to do it.

In short, I have a few friends at home who are largely disparate, don't really know each other and do different things. Then I have friends from my university days 25 miles one way, and another disparate handful of friends 25 miles away in the other direction.

A couple of years back I was still at my old university, got 10 or so friends over from there to my hometown on train, and met up with a few others there. We ate out and everyone was happy. Now we're a load of graduates, a few of whom have stayed on, but largely they've gone to different parts of the UK/world. If I were to pick my ideal guest list there wouldn't be more than two people from the same given town on it. It's logistically impossible to see a group of my favourite people all together now without fooling them into thinking I've been married or died.

Any ideas on how to work around this inevitable graduate woe? I'm tempted to go off to Sheffield/Brighton/Glasgow next weekend to see respective friends there, and basically have a weekend break with one or two important friends instead of a party with whoever I can bundle together.

Rent a big house on airbnb for a few days, big pissup.

I want to set up a camera feed that streams live to my laptop. I have had loads of stuff stolen from my bike, wheels, lights, anything that can be detached, and I want to catch the bastard. Anyone know any good technology for doing so? I want to be able to have the feed on all the time so I can sit and watch it whilst in my room, ready to run outside.

Is it legal to shoot someone stealing your stuff with an air rifle?

In many countries, yes, in this one unfortunately, you'd probably be prosecuted for assault with a deadly weapon.

Do we really want to go down that road though? OK, it's not a semi automatic rifle admittedly, but an air rifle can still be deadly.

I'm not starting a political debate about it, I just feel you should be able to protect your property, though an air rifle is probably OTT.

I'm sort of torn when it comes to property, because though I would want to be able to protect my family in situations like a break in or aggravated burglary, I'd imagine it's difficult to avoid ambiguity when it comes to the wording/understanding of laws around the use of force and deadly weapons in said situations.

Totally get where you guys are coming from. I suppose it's easy for me to adopt my position from the safety of my keyboard. In the event that it really happened to me though and there was a gun nearby I'd like to think I'd fire it kind of in the air just to try and scare them off. If he was heading towards me or a family member to do harm I wouldn't hesistate to incapacitate him.

It's unlikely someone would get into my flat though as I live on the third floor and have a couple of hefty doors to protect me :box:

I've got a job interview in a pub this weekend, as well as a trial shift. Any tips for someone who hasn't bartendered before?

Also, anyone got any good but not rude responses to people asking you where your ID is when you serve them drinks?

Why would clients ask for your ID?

Trying to be funny. All my mates who have had bar tending jobs have had people say it or make a similar comment, I can imagine it will really piss me off.

People are c***. I'm guessing you'll get a lot worse said to you. It's all about self-control.

What is a chromecast? I have a vague understanding that it speeds up internet connection?

Will it work with any internet and will it work with both windows and apple laptops/macs?

It doesn't speed up internet connection at all. It's a video streaming device that you stick into your TV's HDMI port, it uses your wifi connection to do so. Essentially it's a smaller version of a Now TV box.

So what's the difference to that and hooking my laptop up to my TV t watch Netflix?

Pretty much what Sl1k said, you can get certain android apps and the likes for it too, but basically it'll be far more limited than your laptop.
