All very well, but you can't account for a name later being used in popular culture. I named my eldest daughter Nicole but the Renault Clio ads hit the TV screens about the time she started school. To this day, she won't answer when called Nicole and insists on being called Nicki.

Does her father answer to "Papa"?

A friend of mine is called Jonathan, so everyone calls him Jon. His mum hates it and insists that everyone calls him by his full name (which I don't do of course). His old man is called Peter and everyone calls him Pete. His mum hates that too. However, she's called Patricia, but insists on being called Pat. It's weird how people work sometimes.
Ha my grandparents are called Pat and Peter. Weird. #makesyouthink

Wonder if names like Doris, Pat, Pearl, Trevor, Irvine etc will ever make a comeback?

My daughter has two middle names (named after her grandmothers).
It was my job to register the name at the registry office.
All sounds straightforward doesn't it?

However. Muggins here went and spelt his mother-in law's name wrong on the certificate didn't he?

But that's ridiculous. If it is a soft sounding vowel before the N it should be a double. Do you pronounce your name Co-Nor or Con-Er
It's an Irish name though, so rules about how things should be pronounced in English don't really apply.

Veggie is correct.

My Irish mother chose it. Fuck the English and their shit double 'n'. It's wrong.

My daughter and her partner are considering Sky for my granddaughter due in February. I'm not keen.
