He obviously hates his own family and that quote was him sewing the seeds for a cast-iron excuse not to have to speak to them or even look at them a little later down the line when, as he had already foreseen, his side lost five, six or seven nil to Barca.

The wire

On my fourth viewing now and I'm of the opinion that it's the greatest thing thats ever been or ever will be made. The mssage that everyone, be they politicians, police, street criminals or whatever are all trapped by the system.

This is brilliant

Roland ‘Prezbo’ Pryzbylewski:
I don’t get it. All this so we score higher on the state tests? If we’re teaching the kids the test questions, what is it assessing in them?

Grace Sampson:
Nothing. It assesses us. The test scores go up, they can say the schools are improving. The scores stay down, they can’t.

Roland ‘Prezbo’ Pryzbylewski:
Juking the stats.

Grace Sampson:
Excuse me?

Roland ‘Prezbo’ Pryzbylewski:
Making robberies into larcenies. Making rapes disappear. You juke the stats, and majors become colonels. I’ve been here before.

Grace Sampson:
Wherever you go, there you are.

Gravitational waves.

Specifically, seeing so many people show interest in them. It's very encouraging as a physicist to see hype about complex scientific theories. You often see so much bunkum floating around like astrology, conspiracy theories, alternative medicine and spirits that it's refreshing to see people engaged by academia instead.

But you can't beat a good conspiracy theory!

People are not "engaged by academia". They like reading a cool dude headline with a bad bit of Douglas Trumbull attached to it and then sharing it on Facebook as a performative act of check-me-out. I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE, me!

I hope their toe nails fall out.

I agree - people like Saltire who watch a colourful five-minute CGI demonstration of a scientific phenomenon narrated by Brian Cox on the One Show and then proclaim themselves to be well-versed in all things scientific make me want to vomit up my gizzards and rub my face in it.

Better trolling as you know my background in these matters ;)

Correct, and not a bad thing. What do you expect them to do, jump straight into the papers?

I would expect "engaged by academia" to entail vaulting over a higher bar than consuming (the now deplorable) Horizon in Vine form, or New Scientist off-cuts as mediated by Buzzfeed. But if you know where I can secure tenure by looking at a headline and going THAT'S MENTAL! twice a month then by all means hook me up.
