This common prediction is a fallacy. Even though it's a short-term solution, I don't think it's possible for Mourinho to leave the club in a worse state than it currently is in. He will attract world class players and he's guaranteed to improve the squad. Chelsea are struggling now, but they'll rebound soon, their squad is still a top 3 squad in the league and they have a better side than the one he inherited. This season is just a write off.

In that sense it is a no-brainer for the executives, no manager in world football other than Pep has more pull than Mourinho. The problem is the dire brand of football he brings with him. Granted, I enjoy his style more than 70% possession with absolutely no cutting edge, but it's still not enjoyable to sit through.

Seems an inevitability though, sadly.
When Mou goes, he'll leave a hell of a mess behind as he always does and it'll be a heck of a task for the next manager to progress them afterwards.

Didn't leave a mess at Inter. Didn't really leave one at Chelsea either did he? Either time.
Just cos Rafas missus likes to harp on about clearing up after him, she should be grateful that Mou keeps her fella in a job.

Didnt leave a mess at Inter? Don't make me laugh :D

At Chelsea he screwed the minds of the players up that much they didn't know what the fuck to do on the pitch and they all ran around like headless chickens.

At Real Madrid the players actually revolted and he was only kept in the job as long as he could so Perez could save face.

at inter he left a treble winning team, the new manager came in, complained about lack of signings and performed awfully for 6 months.

Chelsea the first time the new man came in and improved in champions league and match the previous seasons effort.

at porto he left a champions league winning team that went on and won the domestic league again.

at real he left a team that could be moulded into decima winners (abeit with the best manager in the world today)

The only time you could say he left a mess was this season and chelsea and hiddink is doing an ok job (undefeated?).

all this and my stance is still the same, i don't think he's the guy for united, but this idea that he always leaves a mess behind is nonsense, an excuse by poor managers that follow him.

He's the perfect amount of quality and arsehole that United sorely miss.

Bit more arsehole and a lot less quality than what you really miss imo.

Genuine question:

Would Manchester United accept his youth policy? Manchester United, no matter the quality of the local lads, have always played local players and stood by it. I think Mourinho is a bit of a no brainer in terms of winning, but long term, you need someone in mind. Could Giggs sit behind Mourinho? Genuinely think Mourinho will try to change, he has always been in love with managing Manchester United, and with managing Manchester United there are expectations of you. I don't think his style will be accepted, even with results. Ferguson, however cunty he could be, was always basically a nice fella (Labour man).

He has to give in to our philosophy, somewhat. Half the fans don't want him/like him, so he'll have to adapt. If his "love letter" holds any truth he is willing to do that.

Yeah, it's a bit of a oddity with Mourinho. So successful with a certain style of play but has essentially begged for the Barcelona job and Manchester United job. You'll defo win stuff with Mourinho in charge, he is an obnoxious c*** at the best of times but Guardiola has proven himself to his equal in that regard over the last, year so I'd like Mourinho to come in and win the leauge, just to put baldy out a bit.

I don't care if he's a dick, unless it's vulgar. I care about how he manages the club in regards to style of play, youth and being successful.

To be honest, I'd care. Mourinho has such a track record that I'd agree he's a worthy exception (in your and/or our situation), but having a c*nt of a manager really is a bit shit. I just feels it leaves you a bit disenchanted at times, whereas having a manager you completely sympathize with can make a world of difference.

Sure, but no manager wins all the time. There'll be periods of downward spirals and it'll help if the manager actually handles it in a decent enough way. At least for me. Rodgers certainly could have helped his case by showing even the slightest bit of self awareness, at times.

He took a turn for the worse, he hasn't always been as unpleasant as he was post-Eva gate. I wouldn't put it past him to learn from it, for all his faults he's a very intelligent man. I can't see him genuinely thinking he did nothing wrong the past seven or eight months.

According to bastions of truth red top newspapers, Pep is going to be on £10m - £15m per year at Man City
Where Jose only on £5m per year at Man United.
Poor Jose, must feel emasculated already!

One person is getting his dream job and the other required money, his best mates to be there and players for his own start up club bought for them for him to accept the job. City pay a mark up for personnel to go there, otherwise nobody would. That's the whole appeal of going to City.

He's working for near enough the same as Moyes and LvG. His coveting of the United job has been obvious to everyone for years. No surprise it escaped you.

As much as I'd like to disagree, it's fairly obvious Mourinho has been angling for the United job for fucking ages. Remember that interview he did at Old Trafford in his final season with Real? And even before that everyone knew.

The Independent reckon Jose is going to be paid around £15m a year. They are basing that on a Daily Mirror article so I don't think anyone really has a clue what he is potentially going to be paid at this point.

Why else would you go to City? The point of going there is to get paid. Also, their poor brand appeal will restrict sponsorship deals.

what's poor about stating facts? do you reckon yaya toure left the dominant team in europe in his quest to join a club with a tradition of winning fuck all and getting relegated/promoted every other year or was it the massive wages they threw at him? similarly, has boyata wasted 7 years of his career because of his love for the club, or could it be his £70k a week wage that he'd be lucky to see 10% of anywhere else?

To start with when the money came in I'd agree with you, but come on, its been a few years now and City are fighting for titles on all fronts every season which is more than Man Utd are doing these days and now they have attracted who many see in the game, as the finest coach in the world, which ambitious player wouldn't be interested in moving there?

This quote from the highly-rated Granit Xhaka just the other day :

"Logically, it is hard to say no when Manchester City wants you and you can play there," Xhaka told Bild.

"I will openly admit that, and that surely does not only apply to me."

Face it Slate, City are the only team to go to in Manchester at the moment.

They are fighting for titles because they have paid wages well above value, as well as crazy transfer fees. Without that they're nothing. Throw in the fact they're not a well renowned team which means the players get little to no publicity, therefore small commercial deals, and it's clear why City only attract players with the big wages. They're paying Sterling £180k a week ffs, a wage you no doubt said he wouldn't justify half of when he was running away from Liverpool.

Quoting a Swiss player flirting with a club means fuck all. One week ago Teixeira was waxing lyrical and then went to China.

Case closed.

Definitely a touch of the green eyed monster there buddy the same with Stevencc. The fact that they are now competing with the elite for the best players and coaches available whilst you have to pay ott on youth and potential or has-beens is very evident to see and it's making the Man Utd fans very bitter indeed as they have no answer to being now the second team in Manchester and way off competing for titles and doing anything in Europe. Bit like a seesaw isn't it, one goes way up to the top and the other sinks like a stone.
