Accrington play comfortably the most pleasing football in the division that I've seen. Until they go 1-up and start Wycombeing it.

It's a wonder how they ever came to playing passing football with the shite pitch they have!

Typical, the one season when we aren't hoof ball merchants and there are shed loads of other teams playing good football.

Can't we all just admit we play the best 'passing for the sake of passing' football?

Plymouth being salty.

Plymouth have been like that most of the season, moaned at us for our spending, moaned at their own pitch for an earlier loss.

Maybe a sign they won't go up, promotion sides are arrogant who just shrug off a defeat and get on with it, once your full of excuses your already prospering for reasons why your not good enough.

That's a really fair point.

When we beat them it was because we were thugs and didn't play football. Their manager also claimed they deserved to win etc etc etc.

Probably why they keep failing so much.

Plymouth do look the most likely of the top 3 to fall out of the promotion places.

They are definitely the worst out of the top 4/5 in the league. The new manager boost they've had is the only reason they're up there. You just need to look at the players they field each week to realise they're not actually that good.

Reacting to various indications of optimism around me (my mate Mike does the fan's column in the paper formerly known as the HEN), if asked do we belong in this thread I'd say NO. If asked if we're likely to get more than 4 points from the next 3 matches against relegation candidates I'd also say NO.

However, if asked are we likely to win another 8 games before the end of the season I'd probably say possibly, even without BB Corr.

An, admittedly unlikely, 8 wins and perhaps a 3 or 4 draws would take us past 68 points and do quite a bit to stir the pot. So whatever I think, it's quite possible that we'll have an impact on the fortunes of those becoming ensconced here - as a relatively relaxed but motivated team will be playing Bristol and Oxford at Easter, Stanley, the other CUFC and Plymouth in April and finishing the season (regular and otherwise) at Field Mill.

Bullishness being brought back under control, at least on the Habbin.

I'd be disappointed if we don't get top 3 now unlike most on here I believe our first 11 is definatly good enough but it's our squad depth that lets us down.

I would be surprised if Plymouth didn't finish top three. Especially with Carey back.

League is looking pretty nice for us after today, got up to 4 games in hand on everyone apart from Accrington, only 5 points off Bristol in 4th place and with 3 games in hand on them. Still have to wait and see how the games in hand go of course but we've certainly got reason to believe that we should make the play-offs now. Nice that Wycombe lost as well, puts us in a good position over them when I thought we'd be competing with them for 6th/7th place for the rest of the season.

A very routine win for us today. Can't see us blowing it from here, got 3 weeks of Saturday, Tuesday now but it would be seen as a huge failure to not go up from this position.

A win on Tuesday at Oxford and 3pts at Home Park on Saturday should put us in a better position.

I cannot see how we look past Northampton as champions, let alone promotion. Would take a truly fantastic bottle-job.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but if we get a bit of consistency together, which we haven't done all season, we get in the play offs. And surely our home form has to turn around soon?

7 points off 7 place with 16 games to go. 2 points a game from here on in gets us to 70 points. Very possible.

Nah it'll be more than 70 this year imo. 73 min I think with it being so tight.

We're just plodding along not bigging ourselves up so what will be will be. In a bit of a false position at the moment but we have 2 big games coming up.

We are starting to feel a bit like that. We had a blip earlier in the season and it's possible that was our one blip of the season. Some really tough games coming up though, Orient, Oxford and Wycombe.

Personally I'd expect we'll lose one of those if not two. The positive is that we are in a really decent position so I guess can afford a little slip up providing we bounce back from it.

Wilder has done a good job in adding lots of players who have experienced promotion so hopefully that helps in the 'bottling it' stakes.

Carlisle are back on the up after beating Accrington and we have 4 games in hand on some of you, we could be all the way up to 3rd place with 54 points being ahead of Oxford and only 2 points behind Plymouth if we'd played and won those 4 games in hand. There is much for us to gain yet!

I think Carlisle would be a strong bet to not only get in to the play offs, but they have the goals in them to quite easily win them too.

We're having an almighty wobble at the moment. Automatic promotion hopes are faint at best so it looks like if we are going to go up this season we're going to do it the hard way. Massive game against Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

'Tis indeed massive after our loss against Accrington. Said we needed to pick up 6 from 9 against yourselves, Accy and Wimbledon. Obviously Saturday was called off but in order to cement our position in the play-offs a win is important. With your form there probably isn't a better time to play you, although I fear a backlash.

We'll see, we'll see.

One thing I'll say though is that it's good to see Mansfield back up there again, got a bit a of a soft spot for you lot so it'd be great to see you make the play offs. Some of your fans on here seemed not long ago to have lost all hope, but to be honest getting into the play offs doesn't look that hard, it's just being consistent enough to stay in them and then to pull away.

Ahead of us? Eh? You're 9 points behind with one game in hand

I love the optimism FootballMad, but there's a little bit too much for me there.

Its all very well having games in hand, but points on board are more important. Too many times I have counted the 'What if we win all out games in hand' prospect only to come out disappointed as it also means you'll have a flurry of games, tired legs and a hell of a lot of pressure to win those games. Not only a few weeks ago I looked at the Pompey forum and most of them were saying 'Only 3 points behind Rovers with 3 games in hand'. Naturally to all people it looked like it was a matter of time until they overtook us. Now they're 2 points behind with 1 game.

Games in hand are good, but too misleading IMO

Yes but I was just explaining what could be, but you know I can see Oxford struggling to win points in this second half of the season because grinding out results is important at this stage and I just don't think your team can do that.
