Think we started the final day 3 places clear of the bottom 4 and ended up in it!
Yep and we profited by scoring a late winner against Huddersfield to stay up....

That was a very strong league, iirc the top 7 were miles ahead of the rest.

Unbelievable season. Both ends of the table went to the wire.

Incredible to think Southampton would have been in the play-offs if they hadn't been deducted points.

That season was only bettered by 03/04 for me (though in a year when you reach the FA cup final and thrash your fiercest rivals 4-1, nothing can really come close). It seemed for a little while like we might snatch 2nd place from Leeds, but we lost our nerve at just the wrong time. Won the play-offs at a canter, though. Weird being in such a high-pressure situation and never once feeling nervous. We were just a much better, more experienced all-round outfit than the rest of the play-off pack that year.

Lloyd Dyer gone to Ipswich - wasted 18 months with us.

At 33 probably past his best but might do a job for the Tractor Boys..

League 1 is unbelievably poor this season - and we're struggling in it. If the likes of Bristol City and MK are finding it tough in the Championship I dread to think how the 3 that do get promoted this time round would fare.

Wigan are proving that spending big in L1 pays off, but if they go up along with Burton and Walsall their combined attendances probably wouldn't be much more than Bristol City's on their own.

Have to say it's the overall styles employed by the clubs that have been the eye-opener Dan..Power and athleticism are absolute prerequisites and often I've been surprised at the difference here. It's much more suited to more attritional sides like Preston ( with all due respect to them) on promotion rather than out and out attacking sides IMHO!

I'm happy with this, we needed another winger, especially with Fraser getting injured at the weekend.

Our weedy teenagers would do well, then!

I honestly fear for my club at the moment

Can't see us making any moves, we're at our limit in terms of loans in the matchday squad and rumours are that Sir Beckford could be back at some point next month too.

Wigan are still on parachute payments from the Prem and will be again next season so if they come up I think they will be fine with the money they can chuck about. Won't be Bristol City type money but should still be significant funds.

Yeah wouldn't say we have the money to match teams on parachute payments

Talking about your bids cha, not your fault if nobody wants to actually join you.
Still, there are plenty of other clubs you could refer to who gave far more spending power than we do currently.

Not sure about making 'bids' plural as well, we only had one absurd bid in which was the Andre Grey panic stations, the rest of the bids we've put in have been pretty reasonable for the players of choice.

Also we were only going to buy one or the other not both so max spending would have been £9m rather than say £16m or or whatever, definitely something a team on parachute payments can match.

I was using you as an example as a newly promoted side, obviously there are far worse offenders in this division for spending.

Yeah but you were saying Wigan couldn't spend as much as us, with parachute payments they could match us comfortably for amounts we attempted to spend.

Found out today that our budget for this season is £900,000. Tinpot.

We are getting right royally screwed over yet swathes of our support still think Power has the club's best interests at heart.

Got the inside story on El Abd, too

What was the situation with that? I thought he'd have signed on loan for the rest of the season - thought suggestions of a permanent signing would have been wide of the mark as wages would have been a stumbling block.

Like you said before, you bid 9mil earlier in the season. There is no way Wigan will spend anywhere near that amount.

His last game Williams tells him he's done well during his loan and would like him to stay. El Abd says, great, I've enjoyed it and would like to stay.

Power tells Williams he doesn't want him as he isn't comfortable with our suicide pass out from the keeper. Williams then passes on his master's view and it's bye bye Adam.

Didn't one of our lot "scrumpy?" Say a lot of things about Power last season and got completely shot down by you lot? Seems he was right.

Seems so. Things are secretive at the club, fans are divided over Power - his rhetoric doesn't match his actions.

I fear he is yet another in a long line of owners who screw over a lower league club. We have a small, inexperienced squad, no players signed in the window despite 10 leaving and apparently and that was a conscious decision. We now have Kasim out for 8 weeks injured plus a couple of others and have 16 and 17 year old on the bench.

The man don't give a fuck
