I just don't get it. When will these clubs understand that being part-time isn't such a bad thing? Have fun signing the worst full-time players.

Because Torquay is the middle of nowhere. Have fun getting players to relocate hundreds of miles for a part time wage.

Much easier when you are close to London and there are plenty of jobs available for part-time players. Much harder in the shires.
(Sorry didn't see the post above).

Location, investment in the arsa. All sorts, but there's not enough jobs for those at live there.

The chances of a part time footballer easy picking up a part time job is slim, and so we'll struggle entice any part time player down

Still hanging on to the hope that we'll win our next 6 home games and be out of the bottom four by mid-March. It's a bloody thin thread though, I tell you.

Am I right in saying Barrow train and are based near preston for recruitment of players but then play obviously in Barrow for home games. I'm sure truro do the same aswell train near exeter. Just a thought if torquay were to go down surely they could attract more players from the Bristol area and even south coast and travel down to Torquay for home games if they had to go part time.

Having lived in the south west for a long time I watched torquay many a time. Torquay is not the best place to find work and Tbh Devon in general isn't easy.

This is currently a contentious issue amongst fans. Training is currently based at Lancaster Uni. In the past, Salford and Blackburn/Preston have been used to build a NW based rather than Barrow based squad. The current owner has an ambition to develop facilities and community links in Barrow.

Saturday's session (thanks to the postponement) was the first time Barrow have trained on their own playing surface for some years.

Cox was happy to have the opportunity to allow his men to become more accustomed to the surface – which has hardened up since the game against Gateshead and Cheltenham and is more bobbly in places – ahead of a run of three home games in 10 days, starting against Braintree on Saturday.

However, the AFC boss said it was highly unlikely the club would be moving their regular training base closer to home from their current Lancaster University venue.

Instead, he said it was possible there would be a switch further away from Furness in the near future, although the long-term aim would be to establish a set-up in Furness.

“It's one of these things when taking the club forward we have to plan very carefully in terms of players travelling etc,” he said.

“One thing I have noticed now, one of the things I have been analytical of with injuries, is the players being sat in cars for a long amount of time. That isn't going to be beneficial to keep them fit and healthy.

“It is what it is. I would love for the training ground to be on this pitch right next to the ground, but if that happens, then we would have a team full of Barrow lads and we've got to be realistic – I don't think I'm going to fill the side full of lads who are born and bred in Barrow, which is unfortunate.

“The dream long-term is to have that with the Academy and kids coming through, but at this present time we might even have to become a little bit more southern-based to make sure that we attract players and are keeping them fit through not being stuck in a car for two or three hours a day.”

Never boring this season, is it?

[apart from when we got spanked by part timers each week]

Don't be downhearted. You're in a better position than you could possibly have hoped for 3 months ago.

Our final two games should have a pretty good party atmosphere. I'll be coming down from Edinburgh for the Guiseley game on the final day to show my appreciation to everyone involved at the club just now.

I have mixed feeling about Cox, but ultimately he was never under contract and his heart wasn't in it. He's got a better job now and we've won the lottery getting Nicholson in, so it's had a happy ending.

Well done Torquay I know it's been a difficult season but safe and sound now. I'm sure we will be more than happy to join in the staying up party celebrations this weekend. Quite a few staying over for this one a few arriving Friday night but most on Saturday, looking forward to our visit to the English Riviera.:woo:

Rumours that the new owners want Geoff Harrop to replace Nicho.

JUST when things looked like they were on the way up. Piss off already.

Any chance that your squad will stage a sit down protest in the centre circle on Saturday for the duration of the game? I'm sure we could supply some placards and a brazier to huddle around!

Who is Geoff Harrop?

One of the drawbacks of a take over is the people probably aren't football people.

Geoff Harrop is our former academy manager with no previous experience of working in first team management, managing U8-U18 professionally is one thing, managing in a first team environment is something else, some can make the step up however most would find in difficult. Geoff Harrop appears to have a personal connection to gaming International who are about to take control of our club and has been at our games of late, since this rumour broke there seems to have been a lot of back tracking though, with it being public that Kevin Nicholson is in talks with our clubs about to be new owners.

Three years seems a bit excessive. Yes, what he achieved was a bit of a miracle but lest we forget that Steve Burr also had a few good months at Kidderminster once.
