The result yesterday against Carlisle does little more than paper over the cracks. He's a very limited manager and Everton will need to bring someone else in if they have aspirations beyond an occasional decent cup run and midtable finishes.

Less than a week later:

8th - Everton
9th - Liverpool

Whoops.

What part of what I said did you disagree with precisely? And what's the point of comparing a manager in the job for 4 months to a manager in his 3rd season? As usual, we await your words of wisdom.

How high should they be precisely then?

Especially given the way the league is so closed up this year, I think we should be challenging top 6 minimum.

No surprises we win a couple of games comfortably when we don't have Howard in goal...remains to be seen what Martinez will do when he's fit but if he brings him straight back in again like he did last season, we have a problem. Including his runs last season and this, Joel has kept 5 clean sheets in a row in the league.

A Dessy special, avoidance by diversion. I ask again, which part do you disagree with?

Quite, I am well known for not giving an opinion whilst you are notorious for nailing your colours to the mast...

I disagree with all of it. I think Martinez is a good BPL manager, if perhaps a little stubborn in his ways. Everton are a club that will never financially compete with the big spenders in this league so will always find themselves swinging from anywhere between 6th to 16th year on year. I like the fact he gets his sides to play football on the deck and under his tutelage I think he is developing two of England's brightest talents in Stones and Barkley.

Back over to you cha. How high should they be then?

I can't take it any more. When is he going?

So? Why hasnt he gone? It's beyond embarrassing. Can it get any worse than losing at home to Swansea and WBA?

We've lost 6 home games already this season now. City, United, Leicester, Stoke, Swansea and West Brom. We only lost 5 at home last season. Since the start of last season, we've won only 11 of 32 home games in the League. Its absolutely pitiful. And nothing is changing. We got lucky the last 2 games, coming up against two sides utterly devoid of confidence in Newcastle and Stoke, and we had a competent keeper in net, so we dealt alright with their pretty limited attempts on goal. Still better than most of this season, as we've lost to crap all season, but we still dont bother doing anything at set pieces. Its a pretty prevalent fact that Martinez doesnt believe in wasting time in training with practising set pieces. Yeah, we can tell. West Brom came for a 0-0, and nicked an early goal, and we quite happy then to sit there and take it home because we were never going to score past them.

The subs are still fucking abysmal too. All 3 today were utterly pathetic. West Brom had four centre backs across the back 4, and Lennon constantly had the beating of Chester on the right. Maybe chuck on a winger like Mirallas on the other side to pull them out a bit and give us some options from the other side? No, brings on Kone, a striker who cant score, is scared of having a shot at goal, has confidence in the toilet...and play him on the left, despite us having 3 wingers on the bench! Then he took Lennon off, our best player by a mile, and then just to rub it in a bit further, took off James McCarthy for geriatric Leon Osman. What the fuck that was supposed to do, I dont even want to know. Meanwhile Kevin Mirallas sits there regretting every day the moment he signed that new contract to spend a year sat on his arse.

Its utter fucking shit and its not going to change because he is too stubborn (or insane) to change it.

That would be funny - one manager who prioritises short passing, playing it out from the back regardless of the personnel at his disposal and who cannot coach a defence to save his life replacing another.

The fact they've been so bad this season, and we're still struggling to top them says everything about how bad we've been.
Why do you expect any better than what we are ?

that is kopite delusion?

Because we've been absolute shit the last 2 seasons. You think leaking goals all over the place the way we have is acceptable? You honestly dont think we have the players to be above the likes of Southampton, Stoke, West Ham and Watford? You dont think being closer to the relegation zone than 4th is shit? Its not Kopite delusion in the slightest, the simple facts are that the League has been very inconsistent this season, the top team sare nowhere near as untouchable as they used to be, and the chance is there for good teams to put a bit of a run together and challenge in the top 4. Spurs and Leicester are showing just that. We meanwhile have played shit football leaking goals all over the place defending like schoolboys for 2 years now, making ridiculous substitutions that are changing nothing, and limping along dreaming of 8th place. Its shit, and if you think otherwise, theres only one of here who's deluded.

Southampton, Stoke, West Ham and Watford all have more money than us............there spend tells you that..........accept under this ownership we can never challenge for anything..........we never have only for 1 or 2 seasons over achieving.

Keep telling yourself that. We're just plucky little Everton and we're not allowed to have nice things.

Absolutely not true. There is no way any of those teams have more money than Everton, especially Watford.
I like Martinez but he must be infuriating. If Spurs can get into a position where they have taken advantage of the Big 4 slipping up, why not Everton?

Exactly. I know our situation off the pitch is frustrating, but we still have a good enough base to build on and have enough good players to expect a lot more. There are so many examples of clubs spending billions on rubbish, and others getting very good players for little. Spend isn't all that counts in terms of under/over achievement.

I've just been talking about this with a Baggies fan. We are the laziest side I've ever seen. Look through our whole squad and none of them help or support each other except Lennon, Besic and McCarthy. We are too slow in getting up to support in attack, and even slower and more aimless in helping the defence. Every side needs to work hard so I don't know why we think we don't have to.

There is a good article in the Independent today about Martinez, asking all the right questions. In his press conference today, Martinez said we don't need to prioritise winning the Cup, we want to qualify for Europe. Er...we're mid table right now and will probably need to win about 8-10 league games just to stand a chance of getting Europe via the League. We win 4 games in the Cup, we get a much needed trophy AND Europe! This equation to me isn't hard. If we lose tomorrow, our season is over.

Fully agree Smudge. If we finish mid table, no silverware and no Europa league next season then I can see us losing a lot of players. Stones, Barclay and Lukaku will go I think. Then where will we be?
