I'm quite surprised by Cullen. I never rated him when he was at Luton but I watched the semi final second leg and the final, and he's been involved in just about every goal.

Loads of Luton fans didn't rate him either, and they know better than us as we only saw him play once or twice a year. But I guess he's the perfect example of players improving massively after changing clubs. So in a way he gives me hope that some of our signings like Lewis, O'Neil etc will emulate him ;)

As the stats prove, he hasn't improved substantially, he's just turned up and had a bloody brilliant 3 games. He's only scored 18 in 68 League games since he left here. He scored 21 in 71 in League 2 and the Conference at Luton.

Boo.

Oh well, no real complaints as we were poor second half and Blackpool did a good job on us. First half was much more in our favour but a number of key players weren't really at it.

Oh and fuck Lloyd James.

I did gain a bit of sympathy for Blackpool's fans after reading this thread in response to Martin Samuel's article in the Daily Mail:

http://fansonline.net/blackpool/mb/view.php?id=2745589

But they're deluded in their claim they "should not be a lower league club" - the fact is that's where they've been for the vast majority of the last 40 years, with a fair few seasons in the bottom tier for good measure (four of them before the Oystons even arrived on the scene). It's true they'd never been out of the top divisions until 1978, but that's history and I'm not sure the reasons behind their decline, but I'm guessing that football moved on and they weren't able or didn't try hard enough to keep up (like other once-big clubs like Preston, Huddersfield, and to a lesser extent Burnley and Wolves). So Martin has a point, any game that can get you promoted at our national stadium has to have some meaning, regardless of division, especially if it gets you promoted back up at the first attempt.

Reading the comments from Blackpool fans on their forums it seems that they now hate each other as much as they do Oyston, it seems that the ill-feeling among their fans means if and when the Oystons do go things won't just go back to normal. When we had to play a home game at Bloomfield Road because Brunton Park was flooded they wanted us to boycott and when we didn't they threw a brick through one of the supporter's bus windows, everything around the club now just has this air of anger.

Yes I remember that and then they expect neutral fans across the country to feel sorry for Blackpool just because they've had a couple of relegations in the last few years with one of them being a relegation from the Premier League after punching way above their weight.

Then you get their moron fans saying they should be a Premier league club and not a lower league club!! Fuck off.

I can't believe that you actually wrote that Redfox.. Is that REALLY what you think that it is all about? See if you can buy a cheap open mind on ebay, then spend a few seconds researching the story please.
As a Luton fan I got pretty fed up trying to explain the truth about what was happening at my club to people who posted totally false comments/lies over and over again. Seems to be happening re Blackpool as well.

To shoddycollins, THEY did not throw A brick through the window, ONE person might have though. Why blame thousands of people for the behaviour of one or two people?

Sorry if I have read too much into what you said, but out of interest, which bit of the quote have I read too much into, and how?

Gutted.

The result is fair though. We didn't do enough to get promoted. The problem is now we will probably lose our best attacking players so we may have a rebuilding job on our hands again this summer.
Oh well, always a lottery in the playoffs. Got to target the autos next year.

Now, I know a pinch of salt should be taken on bookmakers odds, but how does this work for next season...

Mansfield to win League 2, who didn't make the play offs this season: 7/1
Exeter who narrowly lost in the final yesterday: 100/1

...although that said, 43% of bets so far have been on the Stags.

Have to agree with Kenny on this one, the playoffs don't guarantee that the best team over the course of the season goes up, by all accounts (haven't watched the highlights) Luton didn't perform well enough against Blackpool but he's permitted to feel frustrated that they couldn't make their superiority count, just as we are frustrated that while we were indisputably one of the best teams over the first half of the season, we couldn't continue that into the second half.

You had a go at me for blaming the Blackpool fans for the actions of one of them, but nowhere did I say they were to blame. The brick incident was just an example that I've seen first hand of the point I was trying to make that they're struggling to present a united front against Oyston because of the anger they feel towards other fans who might hate Oyston just as much but have different ways of showing it similar to the anger many of them felt towards us for benefiting from Oyston's (undoubtedly cynical and opportunistic) generosity, as far as they're concerned anyone who doesn't do exactly as they do is on Team Oyston. Many of them genuinely felt that if we had any decency about us then we would forfeit our FA cup place (it was a cup game we played there) and the chance to earn a money-spinning tie to help us repair our ground in order to spite Oyston.

What bookies have them at 100/1?
Just checked Skybet Exeter 14/1 there.

What rest of story?

Compared to the likes of Orient they look hunky dory.

Yes a lower league club like them having a Premier League status only a few years ago was pretty crap.

I would of thought they would put Coventry down as favourites as they are the biggest club. Just as they always had Pompey down as favourites every season even when they were only average.

Port vale, based on potential crowd capacity with its 20.000 max, should by your logic be up there?
Neither will average more than us I predict

Coventry based on their history should storm back up at the first attempt, as what tends to happen when teams drop down to a division far below their historical norm. Still can't get my head round the fact they're here - I mean, this is really the same club that spent 34 consecutive years in the top flight?

But it took Pompey a fair while to get back up and Stockport are facing a fifth successive season in regional football, so you never know. I think they could take a while to adjust, maybe still midtable/bottom half by the new year, but then they'll go on a title-winning run of form to finish at least comfortably in the play-offs, if not automatic. (Incidentally, they remain one of very few league clubs to have played outside the top flight since the play-offs were introduced and still yet to reach the play-offs.)

Yes my friend, that is how lazy the sports betting sites are as they can not be bothered predicting any division lower than the Premier League, as they will just look at the L2 table and think "Ok which of these clubs have I heard of before? Ah look Coventry are down here, I'll put them to finish top and I'll put little Accrington Stanley and Morecambe to finish in the bottom two for the tenth season running. As for the rest I'll just put in order of last seasons average attendances, there that'll do it!"

Bitterly disappointed but on reflection I'm so proud of this team and the season we've had.

Think Blackpool deserved the win. We were the better side in the first half but second half Blackpool made it difficult for us and we couldn't create any clear cut chances. Atmosphere was as expected. Poor.

The worst part for me is that I feel we have missed a real opportunity to become an established League 1 club. With the windfall from the inevitable Watkins sale this Summer I feel we could have really kicked on and consolidated in the division above with the club in a good financial position.

Anyway, sounds like the majority of our key players are contracted for next season where hopefully, we can go one better.

True but 3 relegations in what, 5 years? That sucks.

Well two of those relegations took them back to L1 which is their level really and then the season after going down from L1 they bounce back from a Wembley play off final win, but OH wait hardly any of their fans went to see it and thanks to that their was a terrible atmosphere as they made it look more like a Non-league play off final with all the empty seats!!
