Albino's are rarer than black women, it's only right Boris is afforded preferential treatment.

Has anyone checked if Boris is actually a black albino, it could make all the difference

Well aren't there just low expectations of Boris Johnson? He's cultivated this buffoon. Pretty much all he says is in car-crash territory. He could be PM soon.
Being brazenly incompetent and clownish worked pretty well for Trump, it appears to have a disarming effect on the public when it comes to criticism. I doubt that the general public believe that Boris Johnson is a better politician than Diane Abbott, rather he is expected to be a buffoon, whilst Diane Abbott is expected to be something closer to the standard politician.

No doubt that Abbott has a tougher task when it comes to public perception than the average MP (for the obvious reasons), but Boris is a bit of an outlier. If Michael Gove gave the embarrassing interview above, he'd be ripped a new one, because people expect a level of competency. I wish these zany Rees-Mogg and Boris characters existed on the Labour side, then they might get away with more facepalm moments simply because they have a bit of that bumbling Hugh Grant English gentleman charm about them.

In Johnson's case, I am genuinely really curious as to why he messed up this interview so badly. He's a very erudite man with long-term experience of interviews and being door-stepped, so I wonder what was on his mind. I have this conspiracy theory that he had just been told something very significant and very unexpected and that dominated his thinking totally. If so, I wonder what it was.

In Abbott's case, she's actually nowhere near as unpopular with the Tories as you might imagine from the rabid reporting of the press. She is also a seasoned politician (and reporter and presenter) and I believe she has just suffered, on several occasions, from information overload. People can't know everything. I think there is somewhat less respect for politicians of any party these days, and any mistake is going to be pounced on by interviewers or will see an opportunity to make a bit of mischief. Maybe Johnson's interview was the same. Personally, I don't think - as is implied many times in this forum - that there was racist intentions by the media.

Maybe not explicit racism, but a black woman of colour will always be under more scrutiny.

If anything I'd say the mainstream media (with a few exceptions) tends to lean in the other direction for fear of that type of accusation, if anything. It's pretty obvious why Johnson gets away with more than she does. He is - rightly or wrongly - seen as a loveable eccentric that mumbles and stutters his way through interviews at the best of times. Dianne Abbot, by contrast, has no redeeming personality traits whatsoever. The ultra-patronising, ultra condescending bigot who spends large chunks of her time calling other people bigots. It's a wonder she's as well liked as she is.

You've got a lot in common with her.

Part of the first ever slate of black MPs. Had bricks put through her window, sent death threats, endured racism from within her own party including fellow MPs and despite that principled and undeterred 30 years later.

But she once (legitimately) criticised whiteness. What a bigot, eh?

The fucking lengths people will go to justify this shit. It just proves the point.

Literally grown up with and partly raised by Afro-Carribean Londoners and never once been called a slur or made to feel uncomfortable in the presence of BAME people. The only bigotry I've ever seen has been from white people, usually outside of cities. But they tell me that racism is a 'human problem'. Please.

Boris Johnson, who has a habit of casually using racist slurs, is not a bigot at all, of course.

But she once (legitimately) criticised whiteness. What a bigot, eh?

She made an overtly racist statement about how "White people love playing divide and rule". Whether she was racially abused herself in the past doesn't somehow negate her own racism, although it might actually explain it. The comment itself is not unforgivable, but when she continually lies about what she was saying and refuses apologise for it - all the while pretending to be pro-equality (instead of pro-minority) - then it shouldn't be difficult to understand why people don't warm to her.

Literally grown up with and partly raised by Afro-Carribean Londoners and never once been called a slur or made to feel uncomfortable in the presence of BAME people. Mind-bogglingly ignorant statement. There are endless examples, all the way up to full blown ethnic cleansing.

Reverse racism is a clear and present danger.

I'm not sure those White people that have been affected by racially motivated harassment, assaults, rapes, murders etc. would take much solace in the fact that it happens to non-White people more.

Boris Johnson, who has a habit of casually using racist slurs, is not a bigot at all, of course.

Of course he is to one extent or another, but at the very least he has the sense to admit to what he's said and offer some semblance of an apology for it. The public responds to honestly, or at least what they perceive as honesty.

So we have a government! How long do we think it'll last? The last coalition made it to 4 years if memory serves. I think you'd get short odds on this being less.

A billion pounds and risking peace in Ulster to limp on for a few months. What a ludicrous country.

I just hope it holds to March 2019. We can have another election then and the Tories won't be able to bang through more deep cuts in the meantime.

Edit: and one would imagine we'll get a soft border in Ireland which I believe everyone agrees is needed.

The pure embarrassment and anger that decent Tories ( I know you exist) must be feeling. Clinging onto power with the dodgiest of dodgy deals. Going into coalition with the uk equivalent of the Westboro bapstist church. Solidarity with the women, gay and catholic Tories right now. Sold down the river.

Under a Labour government a shit load more money will be available for badly needed infrastructure in Ulster.
