We appear to be trying to deal in quality rather than quantity this year. Only two in so far, but both players that Nolan clearly wanted and fit his style of play. Looks like we want four more, which I personally think leaves us looking a bit short depth wise, but maybe we'll add a couple of loans to that. Can already fairly confortably predict our opening day team but with four gaps:-

Collin
Tootle - Duffy - ? - ?
Alessandra - Milsom - ? - Hawkridge
Stead/Ameobi - ?

That has been your chairman's standard line jacob but I just don't see the realisation of it, do you? One winger from a relegated team and one promoted from the league below doesn't really fit it for me.

I may be wrong but you chairmans sound bites compared to his actions don't line up for me that's all I'm saying.

I just don't see where the goals are going to come from Shoddy to get us top half. This year we've lost Wyke and Ibehre our 2 main goal threats. That's 30+ goals taken out of our team that we haven't and probably won't replace. Our form was bottom 4 form up until the last 4 or 5 games when Jabo sprung into life.

As Michael Owen famously said, if you can't score goals you won't win matches.

I don't think that necessarily translates to a relegation battle, you need goals for promotions but Mansfield last season were top half despite being goal-shy.

Hmm that's maybe the case if you have a decent defence. We've relied on goals to make up for a shite defence over the last few years, now we've got the same leaky defence (arguably weaker) but don't have the fire power at the other end to compensate.

On paper it looks like a recipe for disaster.

The £30k we paid for Alessandra was more than we paid for a single player in the Trew era other than Izale McLeod. We've bid more than that for Noble too and I think we'll eventually end up signing him for close to the £100k that they want.

I don't think either Alessandra or Hawkridge (or Noble if he comes) are incredible signings, but I think that's because of Nolan. He wanted two wingers who can deliver a final ball and work hard defensively and we've gone and got them quickly. He clearly wants Noble, so we're offering decent money for him. All of the out of contract players we wanted to keep have signed up without any fuss.

Under Trew our problem was always a scattergun approach of 10-15 new signings each summer, which we finally seem to be avoiding.

Our budget is, I imagine, going to be somewhere around 6-8th biggest in the league, which will be about par with our crowds, if not a bit below. I'm more than happy with that and would be pretty happy with top half this season as long as it looks like we're moving in the right direction.

All very fair comment the Trew approach definitely was terrible, think Nolan has done a good job since he has come in.

It might just be me just some of his comments are odd.

As things stand

Garrett

Ng Raynes Ray Bakayogo

Cooper Jones Wintle

Dagnall Porter Bowery

We still need a central midfielder, as cooper is a winger really, also another centre back and a full back, also a winger perhaps on loan if the budget stretches that far.

Hardy runs his mouth off on Twitter too much, I just ignore him now, but in terms of what he's actually done rather than said then he can't really be faulted so far.

Nolan seems a class act. He makes me much more confident of a good season currently than our players do.

At least 3 new defenders, we've not been good enough in that area for so many years now.

Midfield is decent enough, Adams is a quality winger at this level, Jones is very solid in front of the defence, Kennedy is a goalscoring midfield and the backup players can all do a job.

Miller is our only striker currently, he's not a bad player but we desperately need more firepower, so at least 2 new forwards.

We're probably only going to make 2/3 more signings I think. As things stand:

Mckeown
Mills Collins Clarke _______
Dembele Osborne McAllister Kelly
Jones
________
Subs: Davies, Berrett, Rose, Boyce, Vernon, Clements, Bolarinwa

Reserves: Asante, Clifton, Summerfield, A Rose

We need a LB so I assume he'll be first choice when he comes. Slade also wants a striker, as Asante is injured so it's a choice between him and Vernon. Think we'll also sign a utility defender and young keeper. Hope to get rid of Summerfield and Berrett.

I'm certain that the midfield I've put won't play; we've got 11 midfielders to fit into 4/5 spots!

I love how we all put our first choice 11 as if it's set in stone and won't be changed all season

As it stands currently:

Pym

Sweeney - Brown - Moore-Taylor - Moxey

Wheeler - Taylor - Harley - Holmes

Reid - Watkins

Looks pretty good really and we've got the likes of Ampadu, James, McAlinden, Woodman, Croll etc as backup. I'd prefer a new right back to replace Sweeney who's move of a centre half. And I'd like a new CM but not sure we will get that.

Obviously we could lose one or two if the right bid came in but we look nicely set.

GK Marek Stech - tick
GK Reserve Required
RB Jack Stacey - tick
MF Alan McCormack - tick
MF Additional Midfielder
MF Cameron McGeehan Replacement
CF James Collins?
CF Jack Marriott Replacement

That should do it.

IMO this is going to be our strongest squad for over 10 years.

Still lots of work to do for us.

DC said he'd like 1x GK, 1x RB, 1x LB, 2x Wingers, 2x CM's, 1x ST. Potentially another CB and/or CM if Raggett and/or Woodyard leave.

Our players report back for pre-season training next Monday and I still think we are a few short. The squad currently numbers twenty three, but that contains a couple of players who I'm not sure will ever play for us again (Sinclair and Murphy), plus a long term injured Racine who may fall into the same category as he was out on long term loan when it happened. A couple of members of the squad are young, Moran and Mehew, and I would expect them to go out on loan for much of next season and not necessarily feature in the first team. In recent interviews the Chairman mentioned bringing in maybe half a dozen more players. The Manager has also suggested that he is willing to wait until nearer the time when the transfer window closes, in the hope of attracting players who haven't been able to secure a contract with a team higher up the league, but it does seem like we have entered a bit of a Mexican stand-off situation. Combine that with the fact that several of our players, if the media are to be believed, are coveted by other sides it does make me wonder what our team will look like by the time we entertain Barnet in just a few weeks time.

Our players are back for training today. Wkith Myles Weston gone we need a winger and we're waiting for Arron Piere to sign a new contract but he's holding out for a club from a higher division and if he goes we will need a cental defender. Midfield Marcus Bean is another who's been offered a contract extension but seems nowhere near signing but i'm not bothered if he goes as he only came good at the end of last season but before that was useless. Midfield we're fine and a lot will be expected of Sam Saunders this season and we have Doninic Gape,Luke O'nein,Matt Bloomfield and Michael Harriman can play there as well.Another striker wouldn't go amiss as back up to Scott Kashket and The Beast who if fit will start most games.

We have 16 signed up now now but I expect Walton, one of the three keepers will go out on loan. It looks like we are after about 7 more according to DC.

Our lot back in today then go to Malta early next week. On our forum some have begun predictions on a starting 11 but if anyone gets it spot on I'll be stunned. Only 2 I am fairly confident on is White and Benning at full backs. Still being told 2 more incoming but no inkling as of when but pretty much ready.

We're a couple of experienced midfielders away from being sorted. Though we are thin on the ground and a few injuries in the wrong places could hurt. Say that about any lower league team though

George Ray has signed his contract so that's another position properly sorted. And we also know where we stand with him too, 3 decent months in 3 years and he was ready to try and jump ship.

Well we're back for pre season today and I have to say we look weak at both ends of the pitch.

We have 2 strikers in Hope and Miller. Hope is a decent player but will never be a 15-20 goal man. Shaun Miller was that striker at morecambe but didn't look like he could for us last season.

Defensively which was shambolic last season looks even weaker this season.

At the moment we don't have goal scorers and we have a defence that will concede bucket loads. A recipe for disaster.

Definitely looking like a relegation battle for us.

Agree with all that. We do have a very good midfield though, so I can't see us being in a relegation battle. Unless we make some big defensive signings, we won't threaten the playoffs.

Signing Hope has been the first bit of good news this summer, though we're still pretty short, we need another goalie (and he has to be a decent goalie, fully signed up, we can't be going into the season wit two loanee keepers or with a loanee keeper and a backup we don't actually want to use), defence and attack.

Maybe Miller can be that man this season, with more expectation placed on him, maybe he doesn't shine in a system where he isn't the main man, or maybe Hope will be his perfect partner.

Starting to get very concerned by us to be honest. Looks as though Eagles and Ryan Taylor don't want to drop to league two and Bikey is looking to go abroad for the money.

So a complete overhaul and other than Pope and possibly Kay and Montano no real progress so far. Worry we will be the next Orient. Missing out on players to Mansfield and Lincoln hasn't particularly gone down well with an already fed up fan base either.

Need a huge July to improve morale signing wise or else a quick return will look less likely.

We were never in for Matt Green. Lol.

Bit melodramatic in regards to us too. We'll be fine.
