2017 - a gaming paradise

last night on youtube I took a look at the top 15 games of 2017, on all platforms including PC

there are some real gems coming, if only half make the hype we are in for possibly the best gaming year in years

here are a few off the top of my head that really stand out and a short description (feel free to add to this list)

Red Dead Redemption 2 (western rpg, openworld) XO, PS4

Wild (not much to go on so far, except it's huge , possibly an rpg but it's definitely openworld) PC,PS4, XO

Identity (completely unique MMORPG, you can be anything from a cop to a criminal, firefighter to just a run of the mill citizen, there's no levelling system, the story is based on how your world develops with other mmo players) PC - could be fantastic and a stepping stone to future games or could be a snozzefest terrible experience, time will tell

Agony (survival horror) PC later to consoles

Mass Effect Andromeda (rpg, openworld) PC, PS4 XO

Friday the 13th game (not much to go on so far, you can play as Jason and I think you can play as survivers) PC XO PS4

The Conjuring house (horror) PC PS4

Horizon Zero Dawn (rpg, openworld) PS4 exclusive

Days Gone (zombie apocalypse) PS4 Exclusive

i think if you can talk about upcoming titles in the same way you would talk about the latest iphone something has gone awry.

probably telling that i enjoyed bloodborne and witcher iii far more than anything i was actually looking forward to in 2016.

Persona 5 is probably the game I've been the most excited for for a long time.

I think that we live in an age where every year in gaming looks phenomenal now, whether looking forward to the next years worth of great sounding games, or looking back on the year and thinking about the great stuff that's come out. It's kind of why when people talk about "the god old days", I think they're being incredibly biased by nostalgia. Look, I loved the old PS1 days as much as anybody, but I'd say you get more great games per year now than you did back then, for sure.

Anyway, my own watch list for next year, and yeah, it'll be long:

The Nintendo Switch and all that comes with it. including but not limited to:
Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Mario (it's been fucking ages since the last real Mario game, Mario Galaxy 2)
The rumoured Pokemon Moon (apparently signs are suggesting that the "yellow" of this gen is going to be a switch exclusive, the first ever core Pokemon series game to see release on a console... which is something I've waited 20 years for :O )

And then all this shit is pretty much guaranteed to be top class:
Mass Effect: Andromeda
Read Dead Redemption 2
Shenmue 3
South Park: The Fractured But Whole
God of War

And this lot should be good/are games I'm watching out for:
Resident Evil 7
Ghost Recon: Wildlands
Cuphead
Sea of Thieves
Sonic Mania
State of Decay
The return of Assassins Creed after actually taking some time to make one for once...
Dawn of War III
Horizon: Zero Dawn

Plus rumours are pointing towards:
Battlefront 2?
Destiny 2?

Plus a couple remakes/remasters I'm really looking forward to:
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2
Crash Bandicoot Remastered
Constructor HD
Final Fantasy XII (I didn't like it back when it came out... but I've been dying to give it another shot. Perhaps this is that chance...)

Of course, some of those will be shitter than hoped, and likewise there will be games that I'm not even looking at right now that jump out and surprise me... but that's the general gist of it for me, I think.
