Out of interest Oxford fans, what's the story behind your one player who doesn't have the sponsor's logo on his top? One of the centre backs I think it was. I guess it has something to do with the sponsor being a brand of alcohol?

So that's it for another season, from our perspective awful and completely farcical bearing in mind we had the 4th highest budget in the league.

Congrats to Luton and Barnsley, both well deserved of promotion. Also congrats to Wimbledon, watched on enviously at full time. Although apologies to Plymouth, they offered nothing and a more competent team would have beat them comfortably. But if we were still playing now we wouldn't have scored, all the ball and absolutely nothing with it.

Good luck to everyone next season, time to go to the Khazi league, hopefully see you all in a year!

It sounded awful from the commentary but how I wish I'd been there for the celebrations. Fair play to your stewards for letting our fans do that.

Good luck.

I thought Oxford did make a good showing of themselves yesterday and looked pretty useful. Agree it could all have been different if the pressure was on. See Moncur up to his tricks afyer scoring and running to opposition fans and pointing and winding them up gain

Yes, as TFCH says below, it's because he's only 17 and not allowed to have Singha beer on his shirt. It was only his second start. We've had two or three other under 18s play in the first team this season and it's been the same for them.

We have spent a lot of money on a new training ground and on our academy (including forming an Under 23s side) this year, and we do have some excellent prospects coming through. Karl Robinson can be a marmite character (personally I like him) but it's undeniable that he is excellent at bringing the kids through. He attends youth games where possible and they are now all based at the same training complex as the first team. Under 18s won their league and we've had a few of them capped too.

Did think it was a bit odd he wasn’t there at all yesterday, didn’t play a huge part in it in the end but did score 1 massively important goal for us.

That’s quite sad really, bloke has talent but clearly has some issues personally, think he probably needs to go back to Scotland and get himself sorted out.
Just to put some more meat on the bones... this is how he turned up last weekend:

Probably not Big Mick's style!
A word for Mick. He is so humble as a person and throughout the whole season he has said this is the player's efforts and win - not his. He was in the pub last night shaking people's hands, having photos, letting people kiss his medals, with a big / pissed smile on his face. Just a terrific guy and deserves a statue at the new ground.

That Scunthorpe goal is a disgrace and then he had the cheek to celebrate haha what a c***
You just know that whomever becomes our manager will sign him for us next year!

My contempt is aimed not so much at Morris who did it in the heat of the moment, but at the manager who had several minutes to consider the appropriate response. Before this goal I have never booed a player, manager or official at any sporting event before. Being relegated I can take, such unsporting behaviour I have much more of a problem with because the implications transcend just the match being played. Nor was I massively impressed with the two players who appeared to find it all funny and laughed/smiled at the Devonport as they left the pitch at the end. The game at Home Park next year with Scunthorpe will be “interesting” to say the least.

Seems a bit of a sily rule, do they do the same with replica shirts sold to kids?

Probably, we’re one of many sponsored by a betting company but kids shirts have something else on the front.

Fine for them to see their (over 18 year old) heroes wearing the logo of have posters of those heroes with the logos up on their bedroom wall or wallpapers on their phones but it will corrupt them to walk around wearing that logo?

If it's that bad then ban the companies from sponsoring the shirts all together.

Why do that when you can bring in money from two sponsorship deals?

You can’t use under age people to advertise or promote anything like gambling or alcohol. It’s not a football shirt thing as far as I’m aware, it’s a standard marketing rules and regulation type thing. Seems reasonable to me.

Quite like the stance that we have in simply not having those types of sponsors though.

The player and manager involved won't even be part of the club anymore when we next play.

Yes, they do.

But apparently, a lot of people get around it by buying their kids an XS adult shirt, which by all accounts is Childs size. I suspect the club are aware of this and it is a clever way of getting around the rules, and also giving the kids what they want, which is the same shirt as their heroes.

I'm not a shirt wearing sort of person, and my kids are adults, so there's a bit of heresay in the above, but I'm pretty sure that's how people get around it. We can't have a different sponsor for under 18s playing in the first team, as you have to register your sponsor before the start of the season, and are only allowed one main shirt sponsor per kit.

Now the Oakroader, your team are a bit b.....selfish mate. Not content with winning promotion last year, you go and do it again. Its taken around 8 years to 'renew' contact with you and you go and b...off again !!
Will be keeping my eye on you lads next season and hope it goes as well as you all want..., Enjoy mate

I don’t doubt you’re correct, but this is a shite state of affairs. It proves the pull of shirt advertising and makes LTFC’s stance even more correct.

Tbh I thought this had 'gone away' In the week after the incident there was an interesting article in the mail online on the Saturday. It mentioned about the bad blood which has resulted from the match between these 2 teams earlier in the season at Fleetwood, clearly it had carried over !!
Andy Pilley has built a family club in every sense and this is a real kick in the b...'s for him
Ok he will have gone into the appt of Barton with his eyes open but he has supported him in the transfer market all the way, surprisingly the mooted talk of more players coming in this week and next seems to have dried up ?
If Barton is found guilty of this he should be sacked and his short lived managerial career all but over

So will there be a hearing then? What are the next steps?

Onto Saturday: Glad the season is back. We loved playing Blackpool last season - 6 points, +7 goal difference and 0 goals conceded. Fingers crossed we can keep that up, although I doubt it.

Really think we'll miss JCH due to injury. Hopefully he's back ASAP, I'd love to see how many he could get with us in a full season.

I'll be stunned if our game against Southend on Saturday isn't 0-0

Accrington at home for us on Saturday. They've been a tough but for us to crack in recent games and they're always threatening against us.

We'll be without Jason Shackell who's still got two or three of his six game ban to go (sent off at Carlisle over Easter weekend and barged into the fourth official on his way past which increased his ban), Lee Frecklington who had a groin operation over the summer but it due back in training in the next week or two and have doubts over Michael O'Connor (hip) and Tom Pett (back).

Michael Bostwick's got through his couple of pre-season appearances fine by the sounds of things.

Our XI basically picks itself. We only have four available defenders, 3 wingers, 1 striker (Walker due tomorrow, though) and we're light in central midfield so we could really have done with the season starting a week later!

I take it your defence is your strength then because Southend's only saving grace right now is that it looks like we have goals in us.

How many 'Home' fans do you reckon will be there? we've sold over 1,000 tickets so far which tbh I'm amazed by. I'm on the train Saturday and can't wait, if it's 0-0 then hopefully be an eventful one.

We are at home to Rochdale, which is a litmus test for us really, as the two clubs have similar budgets and are likely to be in the same region of the table (ie. towards the bottom). It is a winnable game and our opening fixtures are relatively kind, aside from Pompey away next week.

We have been playing a lone striker in front of a midfield diamond in recent friendlies, but we might switch to 442 now that Ferrier has signed.

Rochdale have sold about 500 tickets so far. How many fans are they likely to bring ?
