Bit unfair mate - think you're not giving our defence enough credit. Lincoln were very good going forward, but were equally matched by our defence. Probably should have been 2-2 or 3-3 but we didn't deserve to lose based on how good we were at the back.

The goal wasn't "heavily deflected" - the original shot from Bowery was on target and hit one of our other players who was about three feet from the goal.

Agree to disagree. I thought Vickers was going to save the initial shot, hit Williams who was lying on the floor in an offiside position and went in. Anyway it happens, hopefully that's our bad luck for a while. 4 games in but the standard of our play is the best in my 30 years of watching us.

You had a lot of possession, but apart from hitting the crossbar in the last few seconds, and a couple of chances in the first half, you didn't really threaten - our defence was strong and limited you to passing it about around the box. Williams was right next to one of your defenders, don't know how you can inconclusively say he was definitely offside - I initially thought it had gone in off the Lincoln player that's how close he was. Either way the original shot was on target, wasn't a massive deflection that changed the course of the ball.

Lincoln do look a better side than last season though, very quick. Tyler Walker is a real talent and a handful. Lincoln in general have recruited very well over the summer. Reckon they'll be comfortably top 10.

Still not sure where we stand as a team in this league - we've played one game less than most teams, we've beaten Lincoln and Shrewsbury and had a close game away to Wycombe. If we can get a result at home to Posh I'll be optimistic of top 10.

Can we take him back please now? ffs

Look at the state of this red card for Tranmere. Wtf is he doing? From absolutely nothing.

Bellend.

Certainly a red card, but no action against the Bristol player who tugged Blackett-Taylor to get that reaction? Gavin Ward seems to have got no more competent since we last had to suffer him in the middle.

Tbh I see them both tugging each other. Nothing wrong with that, you see it all the times at set pieces. One tries to slow play down/take the ball while the attacked tries to get them to move

Please fuck off Bond. Another game, another new formation and another defeat. You haven’t got a clue mate

I listened on BBC Essex, where the highlight was Paul Clark likening Bond to Dick Bate (yes, real name!)
Dick for those of you who don't know is one of Southend's worst ever managers, I put him 2nd behind Alvin Martin in the shit stakes.

Anyway Clark said Bond, just like Bate, doesn't want to change his style, no matter what, no matter zero shots on target, no matter tedious passing in own half.
Just like Bate, Bond also seems to take nil responsibility for the turgid crap being served up. I'm hoping his reign goes a bit like Bate's - which imploded in a 6-1 and 8-1 defeat an 8-1 is a badge of honour once in a lifetime game, I look forward it.

Wycombe away on Saturday who are going well - at least 4-0 to the Chairboys I reckon.

He was involved with us in some sort of role I think a while back (only remember the name as he passed away a whille ago..)

Think it was under Aidy Boothroyd which says it all.

Another great performance despite the result. Sunderland can count themselves very lucky to have walked away with 3 points tonight. We dominated large spells of the game. Very pleased with the football on show from us and the start to the season we’ve made. Two stonewall penalties turned down tonight too, funnily I doubt they would have been waved away if it was the other way around.

Dick for many years was Head of England youth player development at the FA.
This is a man who's idea of pre-season training at Southend was to get his squad to walk round a park with a quiz sheet about the trees.
Hence why no Southend fan has ever thought England would do anything at a major tournament.

I'm stating to think Dick Bate may have possessed him. He wants a clean sheet more than he wants to win a game - so 0-0 then, is anybody in this league shit enough to not score past us? Even Bolton's kids will get at least 2.

Really good performance from us apart from the 5 mins before half time.
Most enjoyable game I've watched at priestfield in a long time

Looked like there was only going to be on winner, if only we had a striker who could score

Jesus that was awful. First half we weren’t at it at all, and second half was a disaster.

Luckily brizzle weren’t much better, or it could have been an embarrassing scoreline.

Very frustrating game for us. We were poor defensively for the first 20 minutes or so and couldn't contain MKs attacks. We recovered very well after the first goal to equalise very quickly from a well worked patient build up, only to throw it away after allowing MK plenty of time on the ball. From the away end it did look offside but it is what it is.

From then on it was all us possession wise. We were camped out on MKs 18 yard box but have to say they defended superbly. I'm sure if we had equalised we would have gone on to win, but it was one of those nights where we did everything right bar that final touch. Everything went through Payne.

Have to concentrate on the positives, and if that's the standard we can keep, it's going to be an exciting season.

Maybe we aren't but were better than you.
I am not so sure. You were much poorer than Dale and Pompey and we were the better side with nine men in the second half. Our build up play was the better of the two sides but we struggled to create, whereas you had a few chances courtesy of meat and potatoes balls lumped into the box which we did not defend.

Fair assessment. Lincoln's attacking ability was far superior to ours (although we were without our first choice striker Rhys Healey). Lincoln genuinely looked like a Championship-level team going forward at times. Tyler Walker's finish was real quality.

Equally I thought we defended superbly and put bodies on the line. But we were at home and it should have been the other way round ideally!

LOL at Danny Cowley's post-match interview claiming our second goal was offside because our player was "laying down on the goal line". I know he's a decent manager, but think he needs his eyes checking.....the player is at least 4 feet away from the goal line and not offside as the moment Bowery strikes it, the Lincoln defender's left leg is nearer the goal than any part of our player's body. After he's had his eyes checked he needs to slow down the video and watch again.

We did OK defensively but we were lucky however you looked at it. If it had been the other way round I would probably been moaning that we had been robbed.

3 games in for us, 2 relatively fortuitous wins. We need a good game under our belts.

Fucking hell, what a result.

Incredible spirit shown by those players to get something from that game.

Feel for Pompey, sounds like we were on the end of some favourable refereeing decisions. Suppose that makes up for the shit-show at Bolton.

Think you're being very kind to paper over our performance with any blame attached to the officials.

We conceded to make it 3-2 against ten men, and once down to nine the manager takes off an attacking midfielder for another centre half to go five at the back. Set pieces against us being defended with all 11 men deep in our own half even against 9. An ingrained fear of risking an offensive attitude even with an additional two outfield players on the pitch. Statistically Cov had more shots than us. We asked for it.

It started earlier in the year away at Southend. 3-0 up and we set up the second half to try and defend, with no attacking intent. Result 3-3. Play off semi final against ten man Sunderland 1-0 down for the last 20 minutes and Jackett plays for the 1-0 loss and we don't manage a shot on target for the entire 20 minute period. In the reverse fixture, ignores Lowe off the bench for the entire game, and we still persist in defending set pieces with all our players deep in our own half even in the final few minutes.

Jackett lost the fans last night, whose bottled up patience snapped at the final whistle, and not many managers ever come back from that. In the next few home games, every negative will be jeered, which will make playing at Fratton an uncomfortable place to be. Only wins will gloss over the frustrations at the manger, and they're twice as hard to achieve if the crowd aren't onside.

Our American owners aren't ones for knee-jerk instability, so his job is safe regardless. Still a long way to go, but unless Jackett adopts a braver offensive style of play, I think this could turn in to a very uninspiring season.

I wasn't there last night, BC. According to the commentary, it sounded like our central defenders had a shocker? I think that, coupled with the problems at full back (Brown off injured and McCrorie in an unfamiliar role) probably led to Jackett throwing Burgess on and putting everyone behind the ball against nine men. Maybe he just didn't trust his defence at that point?

Raggett was getting slated by the commentary team - did he affect Downing who seems to have done OK in the other games? Raggett's performance is a worry as he came with a big reputation - hopefully just first game nerves and he'll improve.

I'd still back Jackett to sort things out. We still have a bit of time left in the transfer window. Another late Ben Thompson-type signing would do the trick :) He definitely needs some results quickly though as a poisonous home atmosphere can fast become difficult to ignore by the owners.

After missing a number of chances in the first half, in the 2nd I could'nt see us scoring in a month of Sundays. Wickum really tied up the middle of the park and looked comfortable, they will be a hard team to beat and Ainsworth is doing well
In the end a last gasp equaliser from the ever dependable Madden earned us a point, the visitors will feel 2 points dropped, for the Cods a point saved

Are you including us hitting the post and your keeper making a worldy save? You played well, but when we clicked up the gears we absolutely tore you apart.

We're missing a few players so will take the point.

I missed this one but gave my season up for someone from Barcelona. Told them to expect more messy than Messi but I certainly wasn't expecting Jackett to go to the extremes of negativity. 5 defenders + 2 defensive midfielders against 8 outfield players?! WTF?

He can find a playet but seems to ignore what made them effective enough to consider signing. Marquis didn't get all his goals at Doncaster with this sort of service. Jackett was a defender once but doesn't seem able to inspire ours. His tactic is purely pack our box and hope the numbers work in our favour.

We saw this last season but a good early points haul and a tin pot airbrushed over the failings. If these players struggle in front of a full house backing them I dread to think what they'll do if the fans turn like you say.
