Both Hughes and McCormick denied what they did and fought it as far as they could. They took lives away from their victims families. Deliberate or not, their crimes are far worse than Johnsons in my eyes. I'm not defending Johnson, he's scum and should go away for a very long time. The comparison with Evans is inappropriate as well, he is a convicted rapist, Johnson was 'only' found guilty of sexual touching.

To me, killing someone whilst drunk and then running away and denying it is infinitely worse than touching up a 15 year old.

He was suspended for 2 weeks after she attended a meeting with police. She recommended him a solicitor, sat in a meeting with them and knew about the grooming and him kissing the girl. He continued to play for the club. She claims to have withheld certain information from the Sunderland board but they were always aware of the allegations.

By all accounts she's a fucking moron, at best.

Ex-England footballer Adam Johnson has been jailed for six years for sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

Johnson was found guilty of sexual touching but cleared of one charge relating to another sexual act following a trial at Bradford Crown Court.

The former Sunderland winger previously admitted grooming the girl and one charge of sexual activity.

Well, once he's served his time he should be free to do whatever he wants, as long as it's legal this time, of course. I don't think his crime was so horrendous that he should be cast out of society. Do your time and start over.

I was quite surprised that a few people sympathised with Johnson, saying that he girl was fifteen and knew what she was doing. There's an age of consent for a reason. And he knew full well of her age and still pursued. It may seem like quite a heavy sentence but that's a good thing. Considering all the celebrity paedophilia we've had uncovered over the last few years I'm quite happy to see someone that's in the public eye get punished to the extent that he has.

It's not harsh at all when looked at in isolation. It could conceivably seem harsh when you look at what others have got for similar crimes though, some with much more serious acts and with much younger children. Some avoiding prison altogether provided they have a vagina.

For an isolated incident (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong) and for someone who isn't routinely attracted to young girls, I'm unsure what a 6 year term is aiming to achieve. I'm getting far too liberal in my old age but I see prison as rehabilitation and not simply a punishment. I don't think he's a danger to society or is likely to re-offend so I think 6 years is harsh.

Still, I'm far from being an expert so what do I know?
