The Africa Cup of Nations could be moved to June or July as part of changes being discussed by the continent's ruling body.

The Nations Cup's timing in January and February has long angered clubs in Europe, where many Africans play.

The biennial finals could also be increased from 16 teams to 24.

"That is the first thing to talk about - we can't get away from it," said Confederation of African Football (Caf) president Ahmad Ahmad

"We have already had a lot of suggestions," he added in his opening address at a two-day symposium on the continental game's future in Morocco.

An unprecedented number of players turned down call-ups for this year's tournament in Gabon to stay with their clubs.

This included seven Cameroonians who refused to turn out for the team that eventually won the title.

Every two years, a club-versus-country row breaks out as European clubs complain about losing players during a crucial stage of the season to the Nations Cup.

They should definitely change it. Aside from the club v country row they get into, it's also detrimental to African players in general when clubs who might be interested in them know they could be facing 2 months out every other season.
They'd probably also get better tv deals with there being no football on in the summer (as its played in odd years so never clashes with the world cup or euros) cos people just want a footy fix.

It's quite unrealistic to increase the number of sides to 24. Africa must have 5 countries at best that could have the infrastructure. Bit shit that.

This will have definitely had some Premier League influence behind it.

No doubt, but it does make sense. How many European domestic leagues aren't played during the month of January? This will make African players more attractive to prospective clubs and increase their earning potential, and not just in the English top flight.

"enforced break from the forums"? Another expression for "banned" or only a "sabbatical"?

Troll threads, threats and spouting too much in the shoutbox apparently. 1 month off.

I haven't had the shoutbox active for a few weeks in case people start giving spoilers away about GoT.

I can't believe Daenerys was actually a dude and Jon Snow was really a covert ops white walker.

To be fair SOC it makes more sense for the African sides in all but the CAF (African Champions League). A lot the countries have seasons generally starting around August and ending in May. But the CAF for some reason starts in February and ends in August.
Cameroons season starts in February, just after the ACN, whereas Ghanas starts in January, Senegals November, so teams seasons are disrupted as is anyway. Its not like moving it causes disruption to anybody any more than is experienced currently.
Except for Cameroon. Fuck those guys.
