The next couple of weeks is big for us. Macclesfield A, Carlisle H, Oldham A, Exeter H. If we get around 9 points from that run, we will be right in the mix.

Stevenage are going under the radar a bit. Generally seem meh but well in the mix.

Problem is below that gap of five points. Realistically Crewe, Tranmere or Grimsby need ten wins and even that may not be enough. Big ask from 16 games (15 in Grimsbys case and they likely need 11 wins)

I can’t see anyone outside the 9 being able to overhaul that.

Nothing can be confirmed with any spots in the league just now, there’s another third of the season to go and lots to play for - Hartlepool proved (albeit only for a season) that you can escape from the dead and you’ve sides fuck up promition from situations much more favourably placed than anyone in our division now

I bizarrely still think we can make a late dash for the PO's but that means we have to do two things we haven't been able to do all season; string 3 or 4 wins together and start winning at home.

MK away
Forest Green home
Grimsby home
Colchester home

10 points from those next 4 and we can start thinking about it.

Hoping Theo Robinson finds this division easier to score in than the one above and puts away some of the chances we've missed all season.

I wouldn’t have thought this a couple of months ago, but I think Carlisle could be dark horses for the playoffs.

Have hit good form at the right time, made some decent signings. If we stay fairly injury free and the new signings settle quickly I think we could have a chance of a top 7 finish.

Next 4 games are tough though and could make or break our chances.

Exeter (H)
Crewe (A)
MK Dons (H)
Colchester (A)

Ridiculous that we’re even in with a chance when you consider how shite we were earlier in the season.

Dunno about this season, but I'm having a couple of quid on a Grimsby Crewe promotion double next season. This year is the year of the flat track bullies but we'll be rolling back the clock next season, channelling our inner Buckley and Gradi and partying with the ball on the deck like it's 1995.

I wouldn't call a team in 5th who are 3 points behind automatic as dark horses !!!

They’ve a challenging month fixture wise, if they’re still in it after than they’ll certianly be more than that!

Very true though because of a bit of a cushion even 3 points from 12 would probably still see them in the play-offs.
A proper dark horse though it would take title winning form would be The Trainspotters although away form would be a concern.
Rule Tranny out, sinking like a stone. But they've still consolidated well due to Norwood.

Last time we made the play-offs with a late surge, we were 5 points off after 30 games and we just about made it by going unbeaten for the rest of the season. So it’s a pretty massive ask to do it again. That said, it’s a bit simplistic to put it like that. If we (or anyone) moves within 3-4 points of the top 7 then it’s game on. With Carlisle and Exeter in the next four games for us, like Crewelad says, it’s a pretty big month as taking points from those will inevitably close the gap, then who knows.

Really though, I can’t see us getting past 10th. We’re on a good bit of form playing the best football in probably a decade, but probably too little too late. Gives hope at the moment for next season and is nice to do the wishful thinking and calculations at the top end rather than the bottom for once.

Just as I thought, almost everybody and almost nobody!

What great pundits we all are.

Sod punditry. We’re football fans, we’re allowed random ill-thought out opinions and the chance to change our mind on a daily basis. Pundits are the scourge of modern football who suck all the fun out of the game with their bollocks ‘analysis’.

Agreed, was lovely last time we met in the playoffs. We won't make the playoffs though, so don't worry about being beaten by a side you're head and shoulders above again. Hopefully you'll nick one of the auto spots off one of the current top three rough and tumble mob.

As mentioned, we'd likely need 11 wins from 15 with a draw or two thrown in to be in with a chance. Stranger things have happened but not sure about that one. The loss to Macclesfield and lack of draws/wins around it blew our outside chances really.

Crewe look okay and would be my guess at a dark horse but I don't think we'll see any late surgers this year. Maybe Newport if they're not too far behind after their cup run.
