I can't wait for this game, one of the first games I looked for when the fixtures were released.

There'll be 2500 Carlisle fans, and probably not many more home fans due to their continued boycott.

This'll be a tough game against a solid Blackpool side, and we'll be facing Brad Potts for the first time since he left. They've had an inconsistent start, and they've got some very decent players in their squad.

I'd go 4-2-3-1 again:
Gillespie
Miller Raynes Gillesphey Grainger
Joyce Jones
Lambe Devitt Adams
Wyke

Wyke has grabbed a few goals already this season, I'd favour him over Miller or Jabo in this one. Perhaps Ellis or Brisley in for Gillesphey as Gnanduillet is huge and they'll look to take advantage.

That's exactly the team I'd go with, but I reckon it will be 4-4-2 with Wyke and Miller up top.

Experimental 361 have updated their stats. I believe this is one you were interested in. While above average in terms of wastefulness, there are actually 8 teams more wasteful than we are, including Pompey

https://experimental361.com/2016/09/12/scatter-graphics-league-2-12-sep-2016/

Overall we're above average in terms of attack and defence, which is positive, the dominance we're so frustrated that we can't turn into goals being mostly in terms of possession and action areas I think, so don't show up on these graphs. I've said before, there's a foundation to build on and therefore reason for optimism. The sheer frustration of only coming away with a point in games we've been on top on is probably making us a bit harsh on the quality of our performances but it's a much better situation to be in than being a team where you just can't see where and how to improve.

l2-eg-2016-09-12.png

Using their ranking of quality rather than quantity of shots looks a bit better for us.

Interesting to see.

I do think we can improve enough to be top 7, but for me we need more in January, so target for me is to stay in the top half until then and then push on.

What worries me most is that a few weeks ago (Cheltenham, Cambridge etc) we were playing well without getting the rewards and the assumption was that it's just a matter of time before it clicks and the goals and points start flowing, then we got the win at Barnet and we were expected to go from strength to strength. Unfortunately each week since then we've got worse and we've gone backwards, the 3 goals we've conceded in the last 2 home games have been disgusting and we've created very little compared to earlier in the season and have also resorted to more direct football which doesn't suit us IMO. That's why this one is a big game, we really need to at least get the performance levels back to what they were and then hopefully results will come. We don't want to be getting ourselves into a rut where the early season optimism and good football is nothing but a distant memory.

When do we think about giving Kennedy, Penn or McKee a go? We're not doing badly at the moment but we could certainly be doing a lot better. Kennedy has already got a couple of goals this season coming on as a sub hasn't he, so maybe see how he does with Jones from the start?

That could be a good shout, take the game to them a bit more. Jones and Joyce have been a really solid pairing the centre and as a result we've been controlling the midfield in games very comfortably, but should consider sacrificing a little of that comfort to try and get more goals, otherwise we're just gonna spend the season showing off to opponents about how many passes we can string together without really doing much.

I'd personally keep Jones and Joyce in away games like this one, but I'd like to see Jones and Kennedy in home games where we're expected to control the game, and in 'easier' away games.

It depends on the formation. Joyce and Jones is fine with Devitt just in front of them, but if they are playing as just a 2 (in a 4-4-2) then I think Kennedy should play alongside Jones.

Not wishing to speak of the devil... but where's Carver gone? I noticed there's been a distinct lack of wummery on the Carlisle threads this season. He hasn't posted anything in over a month and although his profile doesn't show up on a member search, it is still there and no evidence of him being banned, or getting into any arguments that could have seen him get banned.

Unless he's saving himself for next weekend's game against Wycombe.

This forum has been much nicer hasn't it? He still does the prediction league so he must be sending pms to Oakey.

That's odd. when I was unable to post anything for a month, but still checked the forum, Carver was able to see from the last active on my profile that I was visiting the site, but his profile just says he hasn't been active at all... Maybe him and Oakey are getting together on a regular basis to exchange predictions and profanity / poetry respectively

This game is a big one for us. I was looking at the table at this stage last season and we're doing worse after 7 games this season in terms of points. A defeat here would turn a reasonable start into a poor start.

After what I saw in pre season, I predicted that we'd finish slightly lower than last season. After some of the performances early on I was thinking my predictions were going to be wrong. But defeat tomorrow would make me start to think I may be not too far off.

Hope I'm wrong though. Really need a win and a decent performance.

They're going to release some pay-on-the-gate tickets to away fans so looks like we might top 3000 away fans for this.

As nice as it is to take such a large away following (I won't be going mind), you've got to feel a bit bad for Blackpool in all of this,.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Bigger key for our club with regards Blackpool is reverse game.

If Carlisle sell tickets we can get 3000 paying away fans, if Blackpool sell tickets we will only get 500 paying away fans because a part of their napm is not buying away tickets from club as they get a cut.

Sadly our owners wont have any idea till too late and lose alot of money.

Blackpool fans wont care about todays situation, I think they will enjoy an embarrassment of more away fans than home and unlike last year this is their only game for away fans

The way we've started this I can safely say we won't be getting 3 points today. Shit lineup, shit formation, shit football.

Curle has got some serious fucking explaining to do after this. That last substitution has just cost us 3 points. I think we'll be lucky to get 1 point the way it's going.

Win lose or draw, one things for sure, unless we have a very good January this team has zero chance of making the playoffs. Quite simply not good enough.

Sounds like we just gave them too much respect. At 2-1 and with half an hour to go we played as though we were 1-0 up at the Nou Camp with a minute to go.

True. But even so we were absolutely dreadful all afternoon. Ppl have been saying for weeks how these good performances would turn into wins, but instead the good performances have gone completely and we still can't win.

We're worse than we were at this stage last season. Any carlislr fan would be worried after witnessing that tidey

I think you're being overly pessimistic. We're still only 8 games in, and there have been good performances and some poor ones, but there have been more good than bad I don't think there's any reason to think that we'll turn in a similarly poor performance against Wycombe next weekend.

Well at Barnet we were superb, then we got a little bit shitter against accrington.... Then a little bit more shitter against Orient.... Then today, we got a point but we were absolute dog shit from start to finish. Not a single positive to come out of today in terms of performance, the only good thing is we got a point that wasn't deserved. Although at 0-2 a decent team goes onto win no matter how bad they play.

Was it because we're not a decent team though or was it just Curle's tactical error that cost us the win? If it's the latter then the simple solution for Curle is don't do that again. I did think we were decent against Orient.

By the way, anyone who has only arrived in the League Two forum in the past couple of years... try and imagine what HG was like two seasons ago when we were in a relegation battle.

Well the tactical error did cost us, but we were extremely lucky to be ahead at that point. We were battered first half and but for some poor finishing and 2 quality Gillespie saves the game would have been gone by half time.

By far our worst performance of the season. Our possession passing football we've seen was non existent today, couldn't string 3 passes together.

I had lower expectations back then so I'm probably even more critical now.

2 seasons ago today would have been a dream result, it didn't matter how we played.

So only a tactical error cost us an away win in our worst performance of the season.
