Football League have today asked journalist of championship clubs for their championship team of the season selections according to Phil Hay, always interesting to see people's choices.

Smithies

Cairney, Hourihane;
Knockaert, Abraham, Ritchie.
Westwood

Mooy

can't pretend i've seen enough of other clubs to pick a full team but you can't not have gayle in there imo. his goals to games/mins ratio is ridiculous and way better than any other striker in the division, though granted he is playing for one of the better sides. probably wouldn't have ritchie in there though, he's been steady enough and scored a decent amount of goals but hasn't been outstanding imo. other players from our lot who'd be in or around the team would be darlow, lascelles and obviously shelvey. clark wouldn't be anywhere near the team.

you could make an argument for abraham, murray, wood, codger or even hogan to partner gayle if you were to play 2 up front. i'd probably go for abraham based on a steady flood of goals despite brizzle being relatively shit. knockaert would have to be in there. i'm always hearing good things about john swift from the only reading fan i've ever met irl at work. leeds fans have been tugging themselves sore over jansson so i'd assume he's been excellent all season. dunk has looked too good for this level whenever i've seen brighton. sam hutchinson was a boss when we played wednesday. tom cairney played well in both games against fulham and has had pretty good reviews. other than that i haven't a clue.

I would've had Gayle in and I'm probably biased but Tammy's scored 20 this season for a fucking awful side, whereas Gayle's getting supplied by Atsu, Shelvey, Ritchie etc in a really good side. Not taking anything away from him though, he's been brilliant.

Clark's always been very good when I've watched you play this season, Lascelles also.

Can't say I've seen enough of the Championship to be 100% on a whole team, but from what I've seen then Jansson, Hourihane, Knockaert, Murray, Wood and Mooy would have to be in. I also really like Tom Cairney as a player, so I'd probably have him in. Full backs and keeper I genuinely don't know, but that Smith at Huddersfield is probably up for one of those slots.

Not sure about a team, but as an individual Shane Duffy for Brighton. He probably broke records for own goals and red cards in August when he was still at Blackburn, but he has been quality for Brighton.

Yeah, got to have Mooy, Wood and Gayle in there, probably for Abraham, Hourihane and Ritchie.

Sessengnon has had a great season for his age, and some very good performances recently, but he'd be 4-5 LBs down the list for me, wouldn't get near the bench.

Otherwise pretty spot on - before the move to Villa Hogan would have been nailed on for this list.

Also Jota would be nailed on for a starting spot if he'd been here all season. 7 goals and a few assists already since coming back in Jan.

Mooy could've easily made it, was either him or Hutchinson and I went for Hutchinson because there were no other Wednesday players in there. Noticed I had Westwood in, so have stuck Mooy on the bench.

Sessengon is just an incredible story given his age, in terms of quality you could probably argue that Fulham's other LB Malone has been better this season.

Edit: could've hadn't McCleary or Moore in there for Reading as well, bit harsh on them but they often go under the radar.

It's usually surprise packages like us that get over looked in these awards, but the only player I'd be pissed off to not see in this side is Tommy Smith. Sums our improvement up under Wagner perfectly, he used to be totally average and have very little attacking threat, now he's one of our most key attacking outlets and comfortably ahead of any other fullback in terms of goals and assists.
Not seen a better left back than Chris Löwe either.

Mooy I'd like to see in there but I wouldn't feel aggrieved to see Shelvey and Cairney in there though.
That's about it for us, Schindler and Hefele have both been great at CB but hard to pick one above the other. Jansson ahead of them though? Good in the air, not got much else.

Shelvey and Mitrovic are the opposition players who have impressed me the most in live games this season, Westwood was probably the best keeper to visit Deepdale as well. Also impressed with one of the Barnsley centre backs, don't know if it was Roberts or MacDonald.

Knockaert is always good at the AMEX when they're on TV but was anonymous turd at Deepdale, Stephens always looks very good for them but didn't play in the home game.

Mooy was bossed by Ben Pearson and Huddersfield's defence was bullied. I like the look of Kachunga and the 2 Chelsea loanees though.

Diame is always decent and effective when Newcastle are on tele.

Always been a fan of Luke Ayling.

Helder Costa looked quick but brainless, unimpressed by him.

Fulham's midfield and wingers are good.

Can't be assed making a team, i'd be biased and put Cunningham and McGeady in it, best i've seen in their positions.

comfortably ahead of any other fullback in terms of goals and assists.

How many goals/assists does Tommy Smith have? I would have thought our own LB Matt Doherty has more, although he is shit defensively.

EDIT:

Tommy Smith: 4 goals and 9 assists
Matt Doherty: 5 goals and 4 assists

Top five in the league for almost the whole season but not really any nominations for our players.

Don't think that we have any real stand out players, but I think that shows a good core strength and also that we should not be too weakened if one of our better players were to leave.

Only players from our team who definitely should be considered for their positions are Garath McCleary and Ali Al-Habsi. The former was the top winger for goals/assists until recently and the latter has saved us so many points this season. One of the most worked goalkeepers in the league with the amount of shots he faces.

I know everyone hates him but as an individual Tom Ince deserves a mention, another good return this year with 10 goals in 22 starts in the league, despite us being utter dogshit. One of few players we've bought who's value has gone up since being here.

Lol, you clearly haven't seen much of him this season. His shot stopping is incredible, saved a fuck load of penalties as well.

I've seen enough, always looks weak as fuck at dealing with crosses and balls into the box, not very commanding at all.

Shot stopping is the bare minimum of goalkeeping.

Wouldn't even put him in the top 6 keepers at this level. Rather have Maxwell, put it that way.

Smithies has been a beast. We would be in the relegation zone if it weren't for him. Penalty saving, starting attacks, commanding the box; he has everything. He is a leader and we really need that.

I don't know enough about other goalies to know if he has been the best but an educated guess is he would be up there.

You'd rather have Maxwell than Smithies.....

Drugs are bad, SF

Maxwell is a cracking keeper. So much that we gave him a contract extension after 25 or so games. Smithies' 'wonder saves' won't con me into thinking he's anything special.

More points won by our goalkeeper tonight. If only his kicking was better.. but he'll comfortably make our top 3 in player of the season (after winning it last year).

Maxwell's decent yes but Smithies has been the best keeper in the division this season without question, you should watch him more.

According to who? highlight reels?

Westwood, Stockdale, Ward, Al Habsi... all better.
