I imagine the main point of interest in these matches will be the attendances, and who can get lowest. If our boycott holds firm (and the local newspaper have just written an article sympathetic to it) then Carlisle v Blackburn U21 could be pretty low as Blackburn fans are currently in the process of boycotting their club anyway.

The other thing to look out for is the results. I'm not sure what people think will be best in terms of proving how ruinous allowing B-teams into proper competitions would be.

On the one hand, since the whole idea behind the competition is that it will be beneficial to the development of future England internationals (who it is presumed will be playing for the likes of Blackburn and Reading U21s) the best results would be if the U21 teams get smashed off the park by embarrassing scorelines with no possible benefit to their development whatsoever.

On the other hand, part of the idea was that apparently the cup was in need of revitalisation. The Football League chief Shaun Harvey has already shown himself up to be absolutely clueless in saying the prospect of the final being contested by two academy teams is "probably one of the biggest concerns we have" (seriously, he's inviting teams to join the competition with his fingers crossed behind his back hoping that they don't reach the final) http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36902612 So maybe it would be for the best that the final does get played between Blackburn U21 and Reading U21 (with all due respect to Blackburn and Reading) in front of about 200 people.

So, this week's games are as follows (those involving L2 teams)
I was going to underline academy sides but none of us are playing them in this round of fixtures, not sure if that's by design, but I'm also surprised at the amount of all-L2 ties, not least because we don't have any other L2 teams in our group, so fairness clearly isn't a priority.

Bury v Morecambe
Gillingham v Luton
Accrington v Crewe
Blackpool v Cheltenham
Crawley v Colchester
Leyton Orient v Stevenage

MK Dons v Barnet
Mansfield v Doncaster

Northampton v Wycombe
Oldham v Carlisle
Oxford v Exeter
Plymouth v Newport

Shrewsbury v Cambridge
Walsall v Grimsby
Yeovil v Portsmouth
Notts County v Hartlepool

Hopefully most sides look at it as friendly, playing as many fringe players as they can get a way with and the fans don't bother showing up

Well, for the L1/L2 teams in it, standard rules apply to ensure you can't make too many changes. If I remember rightly it's that 6 of the starting line-up must have either started the last game, start the next game or have started a certain percentage of games across the season so far. We have a pretty small squad though and sub goalie Max Crocombe and young left-back Pat Brough are the only players that come to mind as being genuine fringe players. Put Penn, McKee and Atkinson in and that's probably the five 'non-starting' players we're allowed right there, the other six would be first-teamers unless we're also looking at some of our youths, or thinking it would be a good game for Shaun Brisley returning from injury.

I'd like us to win to maintain our little unbeaten streak, but I'm not too bothered about it. Hopefully some of our 'fringe' players get a start and some match fitness. Curle did use some youth players in the later friendlies so that's a possibility too.

It will be interesting to see how low attendances go.

Interestingly enough, we had a player sent off yesterday (Toto) his ban doesn't start until our next league game because the FA doesn't recognise the Piss Pot Trophy as a first team fixture, contrary to the competitions rules of having to start so many first teamers, they're just making it up as they go along.

Good to know Hartlepool are so on-the-ball when it comes to knowing whether their players are suspended or not :p

I was wondering what the other clubs were charging for these games? Ours V Crewe is £10 adults and £5 concessions I believe.
I would be amazed if we get a crowd over 500

Surely it is the same for everyone still though, in the sense that Blackburn U23s will be say 50% of the team that played their last U23s fixture. It's not like Blackburn have made 11 changes from yesterday as it is a different Blackburn team in the competition.

Anyway, the fact that they aren't acknowledging it as a competitive/first team fixture for bans takes its ridiculousness to an entirely new level.

Not sure about our game with Doncaster.

In the past they've been pretty tasty affairs, and there wasn't much love lost between the sides, however in the last decade Doncaster were in the championship and we endured 5 years jail time in that shithole down below - maybe things will have changed?

The main thing is we've successive home games with Cambridge and Barnet next Saturday and the one after - so that should put off the floating fans off

So Hartlepool think their player is eligible because his ban is delayed: http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sp...der_Nsiala_facing_up_to_delayed_one_game_ban/

Whilst Cheltenham think that their suspended player is now being effectively given an additional game ban: http://www.gloucestershirelive.co.u...r-nine-games/story-29662202-detail/story.html

Surely it is one or the other? Either Storer is eligible for a game, or Nsiala is banned on Tuesday? What a farce.

It depends I suppose. The Cheltenham player is already mid-ban while the Hartlepool player's ban has yet to start. That could be the difference that you can play a player whose ban hasn't started yet but a player who is mid-ban is banned for all games including those that don't count towards the ban.

Hartlepool have been wrong about this sort of thing before though.

I know logic isn't a strong point of the Football League authorities but even by their normal standards simultaneously saying that:

1) the Trophy is such a serious competition you will be fined if you don't play at least 6 first team regulars

and

2) the Trophy is not a 'first team competition' for the purposes of serving suspensions

is so insane I can't begin to process it.

I highly doubt things will have changed but that will have to wait until New Years Eve I would like to think none of our fans will turn up.

Apparently we've sold 12 tickets for our trip to Shrewsbury
Although I can't imagine there'll be many travelling, we have actually found a use for the competition - it's been targeted as a chance for our first win of the season. I'm not holding my breath.

Forgot this was even happening to be fair. I predict we have less than 1000 home fans. I hope.

a local press bloke normally does a gaffer for the day article and is struggling to find anyone so hopefully we will have next to no one at Yeovil.

If we really wanted we could easily make a first team under the rules for this tournament. Only 6 players have to be under 23 as of 30th June 2016.

Me...

Haven't been to a Paint Pot game since 2007, so not sure my boycott really counts.

Wouldn't be to prove a point, you did exactly the same against us last season.

Fair enough your club is happy to take the fine though. Not like you were struggling for money a short while ago or anything.

The rules have been clarified and as predicted, any suspensions or bookings picked up in this competition are applicable only in this competition only. So a player could spit at a referee and punch him, get an 11 game ban and play on Saturday.

I've heard that our (Grimsby Town ) supporters coach is full for our trip to Walsall tomorrow, I find that extremely disappointing

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
There is always a portion of fans who believe they must go to every match.....a full boycott will never happen and especially that group of 40 odd 'never miss a game' lot will never be convinced.

I think if we can get a good solid 50% reduction on the normal jpt gates it is job done.

You already have a portion never go, at Carlisle for example gates would drop from 4500 to 3000 anyway, so if 50% of the 3000 die hards don't go and is only 1500 it'll be a loss making game which then hits home the point.

Add in the big discounted prices trick many are trying and if gates drop 50% it will be a big losses game so even better.

The boycott wont show pathetic numbers but I am hoping it just shows drops enough to hurt teams into abit of a panic about fan reaction
