I get what you mean but I don’t see how it’s relevant? We were a league above Man City 20 years ago too.

Basically it's not.

I remember Stockport finishing above Man City. I bet the City fans are devastated by that fact

What happens to clubs that play ineligible players in this cup? Do they get thrown out, and if so, what happens to the other 2 games in the group? I say this because as far as I'm aware, Crawley played Bondz Ngala who is still under a 2 game ban having been sent off playing for Barnet, he served 1 match of 3 banned, but hasn't yet served the other 2.
Not sure the exact timings, but it's possible for a player to fulfil his ban without being with the Club he got sent off for.

As an example, lat season Scott Wharton got sent off playing in the competition for Blackburn but because he then joined us on loan and we were still in the competition, that satisfied his suspension even though he was cup-tied during his time here.

How does that satisfy his suspension as joining you on loan and being cuptied, he couldn't play anyway. When he returned to Blackburn, or signed for any other club, surely the rest of the suspension would still apply. You see it a lot in the FA Vase/Trophy where a club is thrown out for playing a player who had a ban from a previous Club that they didn't realise.

Fair enough, I misread your message but that applies to lots of clubs (e.g Hull City and Grimsby Town).
Not us. We were second tier for most of the 90s. You probably weren't aware of that though, as we hardly ever mention mention.

Exactly. Seems weird but that's how it worked out.

Beat Newport 1-0 at the CG. Dreadful game. 1300 in attendance.

2375 at Coventry tonight. Probably about 37,625 less than they took to Wembley?

Btw what the fuck is Liam Rosenior on about? His dad last managed Gloucester 20 years ago. And going by how tough it's been trying to get back to Meadow Park as well as the lack of sponsorship, support for their cause and current fanbase I can't see how you can say "the club means everything to the local area."
If it did they'd have been back in Gloucester years ago.

That bit did make me laugh - they mean so much to the area they haven't played in Gloucester for 11 years.

I don't get why the smaller club would be called a feeder club, surely they would be more akin to a foster club as they're only looking after the higher club's players until they're wanted back home ?

FIFA should have stamped on the feeder club thing from the start. It's insane that a club in one country (Man City) effectively owns a series of clubs in other countries, mostly in the top tier leagues (New York, Melbourne, Girona).

Surely only a matter of time before Man City buy an English club, probably under the guise of "saving" them.

They sort of did that to Hyde Utd already.

Yeah remember going there on the last day a few seasons back and the place was covered in Etihad branding.

Although really I think that relationship was more like the Boreham Wood/Arsenal one, as in "we'll pay you a load of money to let us use your ground and as a result you'll be able to punch far above your weight".

The fucking state of City's squad numbers sums up this wankstain of a competition.

Imagine completing a dream signing to Man City and finding out you're given the number 96 shirt and are sent to Crewe when the first team are at Oxford...

We've had floodlight failure and are restarting at 8:30. Good job I'm boycotting as I wouldn't get back for The Circle..

Of we really cared about the England team, rather than having this disgrace of a competition, the F.A. would insist or better still EUFA would insist on maximum squad sizes of forty. That way good players cascade down the leagues with more chance of first team football while having the double bonus whammy of improving the standard of the lower leagues.

Crazy squad sizes, Man City have signed a couple of our youths for decent money this season but that’s the modern way, surely they’d have had a better chance staying at Vale to progress their career and a more realistic chance of getting into the pro game.

I imagine whereas in the past you’ve had clubs like say Crewe producing a conveyor belt of decent kids that get into their side and go for big money will be a thing of the past now the big clubs just sign them all at such a young age.

We got spanked 4-1 by the Man City kids. The best thing about it was the attendance 810 (71 Man City)

Trying to raise my concerns about this sham of a competition on the Tranmere forum and there is some halfwits on there.

Given we’ve been out the league majority of our fans aren’t aware of #BTeamBoycott and the potential perils this trophy has for the future of the historical lower league club.

I’ve explained why the boycotts necessary in my eyes but many just arrogant to the signs. Comments like “why would you not go watch your own team” & “yeah don’t help the club with stewarding costs and floodlights ect” godknows ive tried to explain costs are covered but ignorance is bliss.

If you want to contribute to your club then may I suggest spending the equivalent of a match ticket for one of these games either in the club shop or behind the bar.

I know the LDV, JPT or whatever else it hasn’t been known as wasn’t the greatest spectacle but this isn’t the answer. I’m gutted there’s games I won’t be attending including my club but this is necessary.

It does seem to make a mockery of the idea to give young English players more game time. That said, the names don't necessarily mean these lads aren't English, but I reckon they are probably a decent guide.

Exactly, and if they aren't one of the lucky few who make it at Man City or wherever, then they could be 23-odd before they are finally cast adrift to try and make a career in the lower leagues, many of them having never played a senior game in their lives, and are way behind in their development compared to players who aren't as technically gifted but who have been playing in first teams since they were 17 or 18, it often shows when League 1 and 2 clubs try to develop them. No wonder so many of them end up unfit and depressed and slogging it out somewhere like Barrow or Ebbsfleet.

Waste of talent. Kids are sold the dream of a big breakthrough, fame, money and performing on the biggest stage, the FA are sold the dream of the top clubs' academies being talent factories that will produce the England world cup winning squad of the future. Both are being lied to, it's all just about hoovering up as many players as possible to increase their chances of stumbling upon a gem.

The hoovering of talent is a disgrace. We lost a Chinese lad, Dondha He who managed 20 mins pre season against Basford United ( local Unibond outfit ) and about 12 mins against Leicester in a friendly before being snapped up by Wolves.
He wanted to go, we had no choice but to let him. Pretty sure he'll rot for a couple of years before being released.
We've had loads of Premier League loanees who have been rubbish for us and fallen out the EFL entirely. Too much money that they can't refuse and don't come near to justifying. An utter waste of young lives.

We lost Dan Trickett-Smith to Liverpool for about £300k when he was 16. He was on the verge of our first team and viewed as the next big sale for us. His/parents head was turned by money, which is fair enough.

He spent a few years 'developing' in Liverpool's system. Now Leek Town's star player.

Because going to Oxford is a lot more difficult to get to after work if you live in the Crewe area, I'm guessing.

We had over 100 West Ham fans last night, I am assuming they live in the South West otherwise it's completely bonkers travelling from London just to see a youth side
