I can't see a club of Chesterfields size and infrastructure going out of business.

I see some fans are saying relegation isn't a bad thing. Have a word with Stockport and York, it would be horrific.

Exactly it can happen if you’ve a bad owner. The fans are just stuck with what you’ve got. You’d have to go part time

I'd love to see how the fans respond to Allen without Akinde bailing him out.

(When I say bail out, I mean Akinde is the perfect specimen for Allenball and brings it all together imo)

Playing Allenball with Byron Harrison upfront would be a crime against humanity.

Akinde's been great for us, especially over the last month.

10 goals and 10 assists before January is good going.

You are welcome to him lads. We've turfed out his staff too, including Sam Muggletons Da so hopefully he follows.

F*ck me I haven’t looked at the bottom of the conference table in a while, until I kept seeing all these BBC articles going round today about Chesterfield.

Sorry to see this, absolutely shocking. Hope you can turn that round as no one deserves that sort of fall.

I haven’t really followed too much what’s going on up there, is the ownership mainly to blame then?

Pretty much. If you've got 10 minutes then this thread has most of it covered at a high level. But the crux of it is are we are getting shafted

2 steps forward, 14 back was our case.

We had some great times initially, crowds and side I never thought i'd see. Now we have a side and a league I never thought i'd see..for all the wrong reasons.

If we had backed Paul Cook in the Jan transfer window, we would have gone to the Champ i'm certain and the rest would have been history. Now that team is playing in the Prem/Champ mainly and Cook has gone on to have a pretty successful career himself.

That's was so sad about it. A hares breath away from championship football if Allen had given Paul Cook a bit of a war chest. Instead all the crown jewels were sold off and the team took a nose dive. I always went to the football with my dad every week. We've always been a league one /league two yo yo side at worst really. Now I've got a son of my own and I don't even know if I will be able to take him when he's old enough. Even if we do have a side, instead of taking him to watch us against Wednesday, Bradford, or Peterborough, I'll be taking him to watch us against Spennymoor, Blyth and Boston United. Its incredibly sad what's happened to my club.

Very sad indeed. It's certainly cost DA a lot more since then that it would have to back PC in that season.

Seems Chesterfield are attracting the interest of one of Ownafc.com

Seems to be along the same lines as the Ebbsfleet model a few years ago

Doesnt seem dodgy at all though

Been alerted to this by a keen eyed Spireite. £99 to download the app. Chesterfield appear to be one of the club's they've looked at owning. No idea, yet, as to the legitimacy of the scheme. You can see it for yourself at https://ownafc.com/

Yeah doesn't look good.

There is a fans consortium apparently talking to the club who have clubbed together some money, let's hope they get there first!

Whatever happens you don't want to go down to Conf North. Too many clubs ( Ex league ) already in there. Hopefully Bradford PA & Stockport are on their way back.

As has been stated zillions of times before, the current Bradford PA bears no relation to the one that was in the Football League and anyway, seeing that they were elected out of the league almost 50 years ago, why would it be so great for them to be 'back?'

Just to refresh my memory on this one, had Chesterfield got to the championship would it really have made a difference if your owner is that bent?

Surely him not backing a manager in January 2015 can not be the be all and end all.

Did Allen and co not initially back the club, in which case why suddenly start screwing them over?

Not having a dig, we have just rid ourselves of Day who was probably the biggest, most laughable joke to ever set foot in Bury Football Club. Unlike you we had no new stadium (though he often lied about getting us one), no increased crowds, no top 6 finish in league one or genuinely good cup runs. End of it all many of our fans who weren't too thick to see it could tell you a couple of years in the championship would not have really done much in the shape of balancing the books, would it not have been the same with Chesterfield?

With Dave Allen, he puts just the bare minimum required in really. Wednesday fans will tell you the same. He'll never 'go for it' despite having the funds to do so, and anything he does put in he just adds to the clubs debt owed to himself. Which is fine, so long as everyone underneath him is organised, in the right role, pulling in the same direction and there's a tight control on the purse strings. The problem is he puts comically bad people in the CEO position and other senior positions, usually mates of his, who royally screw everything up. This has led to crap manager appointments (some who we're still paying off), utterly stupid scandals and FA investigations. Chesterfield FC hasn't been intentionally and vindictively ruined by a criminal owner, just awfully, awfully mis-managed from the top down. There's also a hell of a lot of money from player sales gone missing, potentially swallowed up by the clubs running costs, but that is a worrying thing in and of himself if like £3.5m is just swallowed up by costs. It's all just ridiculous.

The names the same and they were one of the clubs I saw in Bristol in the early 60's. Plus the fact to me they are still an identified ex league club.

You might as well pine for the return of Southport and Workington then. They were voted out of the league later than BPA and are still the same clubs at the same grounds.

They still have fans from those days. The Avenue Will Never Die club is still going. Before WW2, Avenue were the bigger, more successful club in Bradford, they just never really got going again when the FL resumed after the war. In the 50s, the Avenue vs Shaymen games would draw over 20k. It would be great to get the derby going again in the National Premier. Harrogate/Guiseley will NEVER be an acceptable derby day substitute. :dis:

Didn't they get in at Ebbsfleet, or whatever they were called way back when?

So who was it who appointed Sheridan the first time and then Cook, they both had reasonable backing didn't they?

Sounds like Allen is the polar opposite of the joke that just left BFC. Sadly, despite constantly lying about it along with many other things, fatty Day didn't have a pot to piss in but was still happy to spend tonnes of cash that he didn't have.
He couldn't pay half his staff most of the time yet he'd be on our local radio constantly boasting about all his ambition and aims and painting himself as some brilliant chairman. I can't actually decide if having Day was would have been better or worse than Allen.

Yes I wouldn't mind them two back as well. Still remember the great Eric Redrobe at Southport and I think Mike Grogan at Workington.
